Thank you so much for putting this clip up...it's a treasure and honor to a son proud of his father's achievement yet humble enough not to mention his own awesome achievements in the cinema as well.
I grew up with lon Chaney jnr, I still remember begging with my mum to wake me up at 10 :30 when the famous monsters series was showing in the 70's (of course she didn't) But eventually I saw it and I have been a fan ever since.
God bless you lon, and for me you never lived in your dad's shadow. I mean come on !! was he in the wolf man, or high noon ?.
@jksonny Not true! By the accounts of all people who knew and worked with him, he was highly sensitive and caring man. For example, Loretta Young and Patsy Ruth Miller (young actresses he worked with) both told moving tales throughout their lives of how he shielded them from cruel directors. He was strict with his son, like most fathers of that time, but there is no evidence at all that he was ever harsh, brutal, or abusive.
Lon Chaney Sr. was the greatest expressive actor, and he originated so many of the techniques and ideas that would inspire makeup artists for all time. A genius.
This is an amazing clip. Never knew about this interview. Chaney, Jr. was a great guy by all accounts and this is an astonishing treat. Chaney, Sr. was arguably the screen's greatest actor, along with Chaplin. Watch him in "The Unknown" (1927) with Joan Crawford for the most stunning performance ever recorded on film.
If anybody knows, are the signs for letters and words that Jr gives as examples, are they the ASL signs, or are they just what the Chaney family used?
Happy 127th Birthday to Lon Chaney, Sr. (1883-1930). Your portrayals of Quasimodo and Erik (as well as the many other roles you played) are true masterpieces. May your compassionate spirit inspire us all and forever live in our hearts.
This was a wonderful interview. It was great to see Creighton talk about his father. Thank you for posting this.
It's kinda fortunate that Lon Chaney Sr.'s parents were deaf, otherwise he wouldn't have been one of the greatest actors in history. As for Lon Chaney Jr. he was just as great as his dad and it's a sad story about how Lon Chaney died
Creighton Tull Chaney (Lon Jr.) was always one of my favorite actors, although I had to become an adult before I could appreciate the work of his father, a great actor and makeup artist. R.I.P. both of you...
Thank you for this much appreciated clip, which I had never seen.
Lon Chaney, Jr. has always been my favorite actor. I much more prefer "Junior" to his (overly) exalted father. This YAFI clip shows a kind, compassionate, and humanitarian Lon Chaney, Jr., refreshingly contrasting his monstrous screen persona and the boisterous, bully-boy image that has been reported by profilers and biographers.
Chaney, Jr. might not have been a gentleman. But he was, in this clip, a gentle man.
Thanks so much for this. Both Chaney's were great actors of cinema. I really was suprised on how Chaney didn't want his son to act. Both were phenominal! It's interesting to see how his son seemed to be honoring and challenging his father through acting throughout his career. RIP Sr. and Jr. You left some of the biggest impressions not just of the genre but of film itself and will be missed.
Awesome...thanks

I wonder why the "Hunchback" clips are shown in reverse? This is a very interesting interview, indeed.

Thanks for posting! I'm a big Chnaey Jr. and Chaney Sr. fan. From what I've read, Sr. was a brutal man that did not treat his son well at all.
