Main reason why i love the Cirrus line is that to them, you are not just a customer, you are a friend. I love how they work with you to customize an aircraft to make it a 1 of a kinda and not just a regular production aircraft. Cirrus is my main choice due to comfort and customization.
Sweet birds. The cockpit layout is just fab. The nice feature, other than the parachute, is the panic button. If you get disoriented or confused, do something silly or whatever, push the button to return the plane to level flight, overriding everything. That's brilliant. Had JFK Jr. been in this plane, he would still be here today.
Now imagine buying a Cessna 210 for 150K and putting 450K into it. At this point you would be at the price of a brand new Cirrus. Now you have a one of a kind Cessna 210 vs a Cirrus that 500 other people have, with the same paint, engine, interior, avionics, etc....
The Cirrus is a great looking airplane, but thats about it. The plane is too much money and the bang for the buck value is terrible. Now, if you're in the market to just go fast with you and your wife/mistress, then its a great airplane. Other than that, its not worth it. The Cirrus with full fuel can only carry about 600 lbs, if that! On the other hand, a Cessna 210 can carry up to 1000lbs with full fuel and you could pick up a nice Cessna 210 for about 150K
I applaud Cirrus for their advancement in General Aviation. The planes are so advanced they can become overwhelming if a pilot does not gradually work himself into all the capabilities of the aircraft. The new 'Perspective' system and its innovative 'Level Flight' button will help pilots in unusual attitudes. I flew a SR22 G2 and had a difficult time with the side mounted controls having flown a C172 in training. Maybe if I started in a Cirrus, there would be no difficulty transitioning to it.
in 2008 the ntsb reports 9 fatal accidents in sr22s. I think that is a pretty high ratio if you consider the number of sr22s in service. in the same year, there were only 20 c172 fatal accidents, and think about how many of those fly everyday.
I realize there is a huge difference in performance and the typical mission between the 2 aircraft, but thats a pretty high rate.
I did my PPL in a SR-20 and just purchased a SR-22 G3-GTS. For those that believe this plane isn't safe I say "GO FLY A CESSNA"
The left hand yoke is awesome (im right handed), and the plane handles like a european sports car.
If you want to compare apples to apples then compare the Cessna Corvalis 400 to the SR-22. Is the cirrus better... NO. Is it almost as good.. YES. Is their a huge price difference... YES.
We lost 4 people in an Cirrus SR22 on November 25th, 2008. A well known doctor and his family. Very sad. The parachute isn't fool proof - but my fear is that it gives pilots a sense of security, but little is known that these planes have a tendency to flip, do poorly in lightly icy conditions, and are generally not that safe.
Another Cirrus SR22 crash. En route from uk to Jersey Sunday 16-11-08. Crashed into sea 14miles off cherbourg. Cause still unknown. Wreckage and body parts found. Weather overcast, drizzle.
So it has to be a fault in the aircraft eh? Not anything to do with a pilot who doesnt have the requisite skill and experience to handle the plane. But nah lets all get hysteric and blame the aircraft.
Well it seems another C-22 has crashed. It went into Toledo Bend on the border between Louisiana and Texas on 4-22-08, First word is no one made it out alive (RIP)
Clearly all those "safety" [cough] "features [cough cough] didn't help the lost souls who crashed in Faribault, Minn (RIP). The G2 difference is the more thing stay the same in deaths in tiny planes I guess.
Are you kidding? Do you know the percentage figures relating to air accidents? How much of it is pilot error? This plane in the entire time since the first one rolled of the assembly line and a Pilot got in the seat and taxied for take off has had an excellent safety performance but it always comes down to whether the Pilot is a safe competent one or not and whether the Airplane meets with the specified clearance for take-off in terms of maintenance etc.
i agree pilot error is a major factor.its down to the individual to maintian his/her aircraft, look at the cessana`s that have gone down over the years,
There's only one flying school in my country, and the guy who runs it upgraded the whlole fleet a couple of years ago... to cessna 172s G1000. Crap, what an idiot.
This plane is so incredible. My dad has one and it is so incredible to fly. I've been to the factory, and the way they build this plane is just awesome. I's like building a model! No joke, they've got the two halves of the fuselage, they stick the cockpit and all that good stuff in and then glue it together. I love flying and knowing that the parachute is there for me. Just the best plane. Ever.
ah yes, of course...unless you're cruising with an up front yoke. when im on a long cruise in like, a 172 or something i sometimes use both hands, b/c its not absolutely necessary to constantly be controlling the instruments, etc...
Visited their manufacturing base and had a good meeting with Alan - flew aircraft from Chicago to Duluth, then on to Toronto - amazing experience, everyone should have a cirrus
Yeah, i was in oshkosh and I met the founders. In the museum there is a display about the vk30, the klapmier's first kit plane. if you look at the way the vk30 looks and the way the jet looks, you can see that they took some design from the vk30
As usual in all airplanes, since the pilot during a flight more critical time, takeoff and landing, have to mantain the right hand at power lever..., it is the same thing.
I JUST got back from flying a Cirrus G3 out of Santa Monica, CA. In a word...WOW. Flying with the left hand is totally NOT an issue. In fact, it's easier. Not to mention, you should generally fly with the left and anyhow... hand always on the throttle in critical situations. THIS PLANE IS AWESOME.
Well... how do you take off in a normal plane? I assume your right hand is on the throttle while you are taking off... no? Have you even flied the SR22? It's so easy it's not even funny. Seriously.
@breliasl pilots always fly with there left hand, unless you are in the right seat... Throttle is in the middle of the A/C there for left is for flight right is for radios, prop, throttle, and coffee
There are some flightschools that train in the Cirrus (Western Miichigan University and I think University of North Dakota might have a few)WMU has 30 Cirrus in there fleet 20 and 22's. We teach Private - CFII in them. They are a blast to fly and easy!!
@longlivethe80s You could, but it would be expensive. It would be better if you learned in a C-152 or a Warrrior, or if you are in to the LSA's, that would be an option also!
I've been looking around for information and stumbled upon Mooney's careers page. They'll pay like $10 an hour for an avionics technician with 10 years experience. Then I looked... their factory is in Texas like 40 miles from Mexico. For a $570,000 plane, you'd think they could afor industry standard wages.
I fully agree with you, this is realy a nice video!, and a very well job done from marketing depto of Cirrus, I think they should update and prepare a better version of this video and release to all Cirrus owners and pilots.

Too Bad China bought this plane out, now it will be built in China just like the Cessna Skycatcher. Too bad. I won't fly a Chinese built Airplane.

is it easy to get used to the flight stick? it seems a little bit hard to use? is it?
PilotJamesD 4 years ago
yeah, it's still a left hand thing, unless you use a yoke in the front, then it's a change. but compared to a stick, not much difference.

SR22 starts at $371,200.
SR22 GTS starts at $469,990.
SR22 Turbo starts at $439,985.
SR22 Turbo GTS starts at $532,990.
All US Dollars obviously. Owning a plane is expensive stuff, but it would be alot of fun.
