How do you say change the oil is very simple but you do not know how to do it.... ALWAYS CHANGE THE OIL WITH A WARM ENGINE the oil will flow better and any dirt or metal particles will not be setle on the botom of the pan... One more thing u do not use ramps because your car is high and allows you to crawl under if the car was low then u needed ramps or jack's.... All sayed this is a bad bad film!
@195mkr These are valid points but I want to remind you, and everyone else that watches this that this video was made with the mindset of the absolute basics. Always refer to your vehicles owners manual for specific instructions. I did not want to get into the steps of warming the engine as I wouldn't want anyone to burn themselves on the oil pan or the oil itself. I don't recommend ramps as they don't allow the car to sit level, which can cause some old oil to remain in the pan after draining.
@ian67camaro understood but please dont teatch basics teatch how to do the right way and warn ppl that things are hot and they may want to use gloves to prevent burning and ramps are the best way to go because the ramps lean the car and the engine backand in the back is were the plug is so litle oil will be in there! And if you were working on a low car with underprotection covers i bet you were not able to change the oil like that .
@kendrickevans301 No u wont get burnned dummy... The oil wont get that hot and i do this all the time and never get burned but if you have baby skin just get some gloves! Doing a bad job just because u are afraid of getting burned is not the way to go.
@MyHurtlocker Nope, I would always recommend checking your vehicles owners manual and if it doesn't recommend anything, speak with a mechanic or auto parts store about what they would use for YOUR vehicle.
@HamadHHAG The oil gets dirty and looses it's ability to lubricate the engine properly over time. Eventually your oil can become so contaminated that it can cause fuel consumption issues, mechanical failures or depending on the amount of oil burned/leaked you could have a total engine failure. If you don't know when the last oil change occurred, consider getting one immediately.

fuckin dumb arse americans. you don't drain the oil when the engine is cold! you should idle your car for about 10 mins before hand (you can add a bottle of oil flush to help flush any contaminants) so the oil is less viscous when it drains and doesn't leave any crap behind. Only americans would be retarded enough to burn them selves while doing an oil change. try not to educate the world when you don't have a clue what you're talking about.
@wahmannder Well I appreciate the feedback but you are wrong on multiple levels. First, I'm Canadian and never said I was American. Second, I was very clear to advise people to refer to the instructions in their owners manual. Third, I advised people to keep the engine cool so they don't burn themselves. People who need to watch a video on how to change oil need simple, hazard free instructions. If you know as much as you claim to about changing oil, you shouldn't even be watching this. Thanks
@wahmannder <--- What a nasty, vulgar, nationalistic, hate filled, ignorant thing to say! Stop taking the hatred pills and skipping the appointments with your psychiatrist. For crying out loud, take a chill pill! You are embarrassing Australia before all the world. Gheesh.
its funny that most of the cars from the 80's and 90's were about as easy to work on as your camaro. But most of the newer cars are a nightmare to work on mostly FWD and RWD cars with V6's and V8's they just stuff the engine under the hood and say good luck.
@workensmart - You can thank the democrats in Congress for this. They rammed the C.A.F.E., (Corporate Average Fuel Economy), law down our throats so auto makers have to make their vehicles as small/lightweight as possible in order to meet the C.A.F.E. law, or face millions of dollars in fines from the federal government. King Obama is making this problem even worse. Then those same democrats actually criticize the American auto industry for having financial troubles. Duh.
A Fram oil filter will not destroy your engine. The problem is that Frams cost more than better built filters. You get cardboard endcaps in a Fram, whereas you'd get metal in say a Purolator, or a Wix.
I agree actually. Not that I am a moron but that Fram is a low quality product. The key point here is that I am not looking to keep this engine forever and that the products were free. Free is important to me. I have since looked up Fram and now know of their product standards. I'm not trying to sell these products though. Thanks for the comment!
Well you don't have too. I just didn't have anything good to dump the oil into on hand. The basin I used was a ceramic popcorn tub. My fiance would have murdered me if I poured the oil right into it. The cleanup was a snap as I just pulled the bag out and dumped it into a taller bucket (that wouldn't fit under the car without jacking it up).
I'm sure that it won't really hurt anything. The important part is that you don't mix different types of oil. Make sure they are the same rating 10w30 or 5w30 for example. If they are exactly the same type of oil and only the brand is different I would say youre good. Usually the back of the oil container will specify the vehicles its designed for. Sometimes you just need to top it off right?
1)Don't drain oil from a cold engine, let it run for maybe 10+ minutes before you drain it. This will make the oil flow like water and it will be out in no time.
2) Take off the oil filler cap before you drain it, this will also make it flow faster.
I will also leave a few tips on part 2 of this video.

you put a plastic bag inside the oil change pan. Is this for preventing the pan from dirty oil? I know it is difficult to wash the pan. Does it work?
