Guys just so you know, doing this indoors is not such a great idea!, Hydrogen is lighter then air and will collect on the ceiling! best outside or in the shed.

I agree, aluminium, water and LYE (potasium hydroxide's chemical reaction = pure hydrogen, no oxygen.. without the oxygen its not as explosive... like the litte "poof" you got.. add a littlke oxygen, watch the difference :-)

@hbar45 Sodium Hydroxide is caustic soda! You buy it at shops to put down your drains to clear them of gunk etc. In the USA it comes under the name Draino or something.

@Itsmeeman1 its LYE, either potasium hydroxide or soium hydroxide, comes is powder and crystals for a lot of stuff..

Its not really the costic part that ya gotta worry about its the fumes these guys are breathing is poisonous.. you never do this chemical reaction indoors or in a comfined area with very little ventilation :-\
