OK, you are right. The feds only own 60% of GM. That is controlling interest, but GM is only half of the domestic auto industry.

I think the degree to which the feds have asserted authority implies that they think they can do anything. For instance, overriding prior employment contracts, as they are doing in the financial services and banking sectors implies that they will micromanage any policy in these industries.

I think it is chilling, and all you have to do is project the trend out...

The "public option" which is being voted on on Saturday, is an attempt to take over the health ins industry.

Credit cards are no longer private. Via the USA PATRIOT Act, your credit card records may be viewed by the govt without a warrant.

And now the govt is regulating the rates that credit card cos can charge. The govt regulates other credit card policies as well. It presumes to change any part of the credit card agreement.

If not a total takeover, it is moving in that direction.

The actual problem is the nearly 30 years of Reaganomics which allowed for companies become to big to fail, which allowed our jobs be sent to overseas and which allowed corporations to pay virtually no taxes at all.

Join us. Demand anti-trust laws be enforced, restoration of trade barriers and regulated banks, so we don't need to bailout companies.

All the companies that were about to fail should have simply been allowed to go bankrupt. The pieces would have been purchased by the solvent corps and no bailouts were necessary. There was never any need to bail them out in the first place. The govt wanted us to be afraid so that they could pay off special interest groups/corps, or gain control over other powerful corps.

It's not deregulation that caused the problem. We've had little real deregulation. It's too much govt power.
