the greatest action film director of all time. on par with Leone and Peckinpah. it sucks that most of his movies are virtually unavailable in the uk, all of the dvds by HKL are out of print, but now Cine-Asia have bought the label, i hope they listen to my plea and re-release the classic HK action films...
@JOSKE123100 you can get them easly on amazon UK from private sellers for cheap prices, i got Hard-Boiled and Bullet in the Head there and i live in Sweden! So it should be even easier for you who live in the UK
You know that awful movie called Max Payne? John Woo should have directed that. In fact, make it a Hong Kong production, that way Hollywood can't screw with the film.
where is LU BU in red cliff we want LU BU the best movie if ever seen in my life redcliff 1 and 2 we want 3 you should tell us about the old battels when LU bu was in it
Agreed. Face/Off is too slick and pretty, too much of a Hollywood Blockbuster, which isn't what John Woo's all about. Hard Target was gritty and more true to the kind of movie John Woo really makes.
I actually loved it. Not the best from John, but nevertheless not bad. I don't know the history, but his way of introducing the many characters (which makes it really easy to fall into the trap of not letting the audience get to know them). It's a very hard thing to tell such a story with so many different distinctive character in only 2 hours.
So how do you judge the novel, Romance of The Three Kingdoms? The novel was written several hundred years ago. You have read it and you know there are a lot of historically incorrect parts in the novel. However, it is acclaimed as one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. People love the novel. They also brought it to the opera stage. It is a great success.
If the movie is exactly historically correct, do you think it will be interesting?
If you accept Luo Guanzhong's novel Romance of The Three Kingdoms, why can you not accept John Wu's Red Cliff? You can learn history from textbook. However, there is always some reasons why people make movies and novels.
