My grandmother could do this. =) She would have been a Rockette except she was too short. Her skills got her through auditions; her height put her out.
Skating like that and practicing as mcuh as they did would have to kill you feet after awhile because you know damn well those skates weren't comfortable. But, they both look amazing.
Yeah 'cause things were just swell back then. Rife racism, sexism, homophobia... sounds awesome... IF you're a white rich male between the ages of 21 and 65 :P
Cos nowadays things are SO much better... Wars, the economic crisis, people trying to what they're not, children growing up too fast, women trying to stay young... Woooooow, 2008 kicks ass... ~_~'
something must be done...fine if you like one day and i like one days ill say one day and give up one days so lets call the calling off-off... Let's call the whole thing off
For me, the most amazing thing about this video is that the entire roller skate dance sequence—every bit from when they sit clacking their skates to when they flop down on the grass—is done in one single take. No cuts—no cheating. They had to do that entire sequence perfect from start to finish, and I would love to know just how much rehearsal and how many takes it took them to get it right.
Nobody danced like Fred & Ginger... Poetry in motion, really a joy to watch, not just when they danced, buy also watching them act. Really fun to watch!!!!
I don't kwnow why there's a lot of people thinking that best times were their times. I think that every time and epoch has their own great things as well as worst things! Let's not be chauvinistics!!
Weird, because I don't like anything after the 1960's. In fact, I don't even like the 1960's! I agree with yourbliss888, all the great stuff DID happen before 1960!
what about the beatles, the rolling stones, jimi hendrix, dire straits, pink floyd, the police, eric clapton, john lennon, george harrison, paul maccartney, bob dylan, simon & garfunkel, bruce springsteen, bill withers, bb king, david bowie, elton john, mark knopfler, sting, paul weller, elvis costello, cast, thin lizzy, the who, prince, scorpions, lynrd skynrd, led zepplin and u2? are you saying that they're no good?
I'm not saying that they're 'no good', but I personally don't like them. You listed very popular bands, and they are popular because obviously they play good music. But that's just not my music taste. I don't like The Beatles, or Elvis, or The Rolling Stones. Does this mean they're no good? No, not at all, it just means I personally don't like their style.
madonna seemed to have insparation from this for her confession on the dance floor show with rollerskaters dancing on stage ,it,s not new but it was like how fred en ginger did it and Madonna likes to watch them too!
Ginger wasn,t especially the best dance partner of Fred but sure the funniest! She could have sarcasme in her voice an face, that,s crack you up.watch for instance Top Hat if you have the change, fun fun fun
I've seen this scene many times but it remains amazing! I think 'Shall we Dance' is their best movie *the Gershwin music is also lovely* - I was totally wowed after seeing it :)
the first time I saw this I said this is where the song came form so cute and what grat chemisty they had! HANDS DOWN EVERYBODY SHOULD WATCH THIS! AWESOME
A great Gershwin classic song...and Fred and Ginger sing a witty duet. Fred's rendition is as classic as the song they both introduced to the American songbook. At this point, in their collaboration their synergy is a wonder of human nature...It doesn't matter one iota that neither are great skaters...The spirit of fun and humanity imbues their whole performance. I suppose, it's possible to get better than this in the musical genre, but not by much! We are viewing two genuine professionals.
Shall We Dance. This is my favorite Fred & Ginger film. The music, the comedy, the dancing. It has everything. It's perfect. They repeated this skating scene so many times that their feet got all bloody when they removed their skates.
I love how when they hit the last hard tap when there sitting she hits hers and corsses her legs, and he wants to make the same move but instead kicks his out because he's a guy, idk why, but i like it. The ending is great because you think it's going to happen but your not sure and you don't believe it until it really happens! haha.
