I'm at the end of my first semester of nursing. I have a test in less than three hours and ABG's are on it. Thanks for clearing up some of the confusion. Everyone in my class made it really confusing. Now alll I have to do in memorize the lab values.
This is a great first start for beginners to understand the concepts. Obviously @ Annie more in depth teaching should be required, but for some who don't get the basics, the graphical representations definitely help and would definitely augment any lecture on ABG interpretation. Well done. And quite frankly, most people want short and sweet for concepts.
How can nurses care for people properly when they are slaved out /overworked/ numb from being overwhelmed with unreasonable workloads? Who is responsible? Why isn't their enough money for quality labor environments/ wages that match the stress and responsibility? It comes from high places...be politically informed to find the answers...watch MONEY CHANGERS- THE INTERNATIONAL BANKERS documentary. Open your eyes as to where public money for healthcare is going and it's not to the people.
wow!!! its this simple.. i got bored when my clinical instructor taught us about this topic and evrytime i encounter question like this in our exam i ended up guessing.. now i know how to choose the right answer.. thank you.
It's nice that you are trying to educate people about an important medical topic, but your approach to ABG interpretation is overly simplistic, misleading, and factually wrong. Accurate ABG interpretation just cannot be summarized in 5 min.
@anniegoldie Sorry Annie, with the ignorance out there in nursing, I think this is close enough for beginners. My hope is that this gets the nurse to question what she sees and finds a RRT to explain it better.
@antiviral8 Hey, I feel really bad about replying in such a snarky manner to you, taking my stress and displacing it onto you, so I deleted those 2 ugly comments I made. :-)
im currently making my report on COPD for my masteral......i really had a problem with ABG interpretation...this video is saving me.....thanks a lot!!!!!!!
Thanks for the video, I FINALLY GET IT!!!! Much easier than pulling out the ABG Calculator!!!! I can't tell you how many times I have tried to get this down.
Please give credit were credit is due. Even though Dr. Gasparis said it's ok to copy her method, you just have to tell people that you copied her way and it's not your idea. It's not ok to just use it without giving her the credit. Remember she has COPYWRTITE on everything.
IM in the middle of an ABG class also.. however where does partially compensated come in? The way you explained this seems so much easier than class! They got my head spinning. also how do we figure in the anion GAp?
I think you misspoke when using the compensated & uncompensated and your chart I believe was incorrect also. Didn't you say below 7.35 is compensated? Later in the video it is showing it as uncompensated below 7.35
Hey Josh! Great job on explaining this stuff. It was easy and I had the nerve to TEACH it to my coworkers the next day!!!!!!!! It was AWESOME! thanx again

thanks for this. its great review for us nursing students. the diagrams are a really great visual to help make things easier to picture. thanks for using examples of what a patient would look like too in these cases ( for a practical approach). maybe you can do a video for normal/abnormal levels of wbc, rbc, glucose, creatine, electrolytes, etc. 5/5 stars.
