Lets take an automatic bone stock 5.0 mustang, against an all bone stock manual 5.0 mustang and the manual wins every time. Its a different story once you get into the 10s obviously if you want consistancy. But when Im on the highway and someone pulls up next to me at 55, bet your ass I want my 5speed over an automatic.

No doubt the numbers look better on a manual (I actually own a manual car, 2 in fact) but once your past the light boltons mark an automatic wins every single time. The numbers don't mean shit when the car gets down the track better.

An automatic will shift faster than anyone alive (or dead), and do so more consistently than humanly possible. After moving past a stock car, a properly setup auto wins every time.

@testy462 but I have been in an auto with work done to it. It had the exact same parts my car did at the time and I went almost half a second quicker. Heads intake cam, and we both went 12s. I went low 12s and he went mid 12s. And youre talkin about putting a stall on a stock car to race another stock car??? That wouldnt be fair. We're talkin about 2 bone stock cars racing. Not 1 will have aftermarket parts and not the other... STOCK. Like i said after 11s or so, thats when the auto is superior.

@noslow50ford The auto was setup incorrectly (probably the stall) in the car you raced, no doubt .If someone with an identical car, minus the trans, raced you and was 1/2 a second slower, something was seriously seriously wrong.

Both bone stock, an automatic in a 2011 GT is only .2 slower (1/4 mile) than the manual, and this is with a professional driver in the stick (compared to anyone you want in the auto, just floor it). You can see this in numerous youtube vids not to mention all the performance mags.

Put a stall and transmission (no changes to engine tune) tune into a auto 5.0 and its faster. After doing this, adding more power to either car will result in the same.. the auto being faster.

@noslow50ford You need to realize as well that this isn't your father's 4 speed automatic.. its a modern day 6 speed car. The powertrain losses are much MUCH less than they were even 5 or 10 years ago.

Check out the first set of procharged 2011 cars (vid here on youtube) from procharger On a mustang dyno (most repeatable out there) the corrected numbers were off by exactly EIGHT horsepower at the 520 WHP range. Only down 8 HP, with faster/more consistant shifting, you know which one wins.

@noslow50ford The new automatics make this even more true. They loose less thru the drivetrain (compared to an older auto) and have more gears.

Lets put it this way, take that stock 5.0L car with a stick, and race it against an auto and your only looking at (with a pro driver) a .2 second or less 1/4 mile difference. Slap on a stall and a tune for the transmission, and your either dead even or winning with the auto, all with less work on your part.

Auto is FTW.

Very nice! I just ordered a 2012 GT premium which is also black and an auto - only difference being I went with saddle interior. Hoping to run some nice times like this but I'm more then double your weight, so that may be a factor. Nothing more HP can't fix though ;)

@laford1986 Hi, I just went 10.15 @ 136.6 w/ a 1.50 60' on drag radials. The car simply has the TVS, a smaller pulley (about 10psi), LT headers, 3.55 gears, wheels, tires, LCAs, LCA relocation brackets, and a VMP Tuning custom tune.

The only reason I can see that you would want me "off the track" is because you wouldn't want to be beaten by me.

this car is so xtremely held back from its full capabilitys its just sick, you can probelly get well over 400 rwhp out of this car without even changing the cams, hell ya just might get 500 rwhp out of it before having to change cams. this is more then i can say about the Ls engines from GM.
