@datguy542 There is a good reason for that. It's mostly against commercialism. The majority of the bands don't wish to gain large commercial success, nor do they want to have a fan-base of unintelligent teenagers who worship them and can't think for themselves.

Black metal was originally a means of breaking free of the boundaries given to music by modern society, they didn't want to follow "rules" and guidelines so they broke free and developed something that really pisses people off... Noise.
