This video in no way shows all our training doctrine for knife defense. We have strategies and tactics for when you have a crazed attacker and you can't catch the weapon bearing limb.It is not 'how to do' video,it is purely for entertainment and displaying skill. Use what is useful and disregard what is not.
@mrtigereast Do you incorporate any boxing strikes, strategies & techniques for when you have someone charging are doing a "sowing machine" attack?
Its difficult for them to knife you if they you are avoiding & knocking them senseless - obviously not all of boxing is relevant or practical but I just thought to ask you what your opinion is on pure striking in knife defence as some crazed attackers are stronger than they look.
In a type of attack that you mentioned, we try to use eye attacks and low line leg kicks. Footwork and evasion are very important. Use anything in your environment as weapon, throw dirt in there face, spit anything it takes to survive. Of course always try to get away.
@mrtigereast Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I do boxing and Jujitsu both traditional and BJJ. There is a lot of boxing clubs that only do boxing as a sport but I am interested after seeing Talhoffer's medieval fight books & Mark Hatmaker's videos on how boxing can be used against a knife in self defence using the old style boxing of the bare knuckle era. Your reply & videos are very good & if you want to check out any of those sources they are on YTube
Knife defense is almost always simply a factor of how badly you are injured. As many people will tell you who have faced even a street punk with a blade and a real intent to use it. If a serious knife attack is launched at you you WILL BE CUT, at a minimum. I'd say the best defense is to try and protect your off arm (i.e. left arm if you are a righty) with a jacket or shirt and rotate around the off side of your attacker and do your best to draw the attacker's blows into your protected arm.
All cool stuff but truth is, even if you're able to do this stuff, you should always think twice or even thrice if you take up the fight with a knife. It's still friggin' dangerous and you never know if you have a pro in front of you or just some show-off, plus if you get cut you don't have only a light scratch like in movies, you have really deep and open wide wounds. It's a very delicate thing and you should only take chances if you can't just go away, as cool as this here looks like!
Instructors bio on his website says certified ISR MATRIX instructor....two thumbs up then. Great stuff, the real deal here. I knew some of the moves looked familiar ;)
To me it looks like Japenese Jiu jitsu and Krava Meg combined..looks good but not to sure about rolling under a blade that would take a lot of practice,, but practice practice pactice is the mother of skill..
Some great techniques displayed here - love the simplicity, bad training habit though of grabbing the blade for strips, counted at least 3 where your fingers would be badly cut. Love the hand smash though! Nice
@ImpactJujitsu Thanks for your comment. When Im grabbing the blade im using the fingertips and lower part of the palm on the flat of the blade. No part of my hand touches the sharp edge. We have tested this out on live blades. It is hard to see on the video.
@ImpactJujitsu : You also have to realise that in a real knife fight you are going to get cut. This is not the movies. the thing you want to do is minimize the damage. To the maker of the video: Great intensity in the techniques.
I still think the best defense training against knife attacks are sprints.

You can't fight a man with a blade especially when he knows how to use the blade. Just a piece of thought. I could be wrong!

Better to get sliced than to lose your life! (If the attacker is really coming at you and you can't escape that is)

Many of these look familiar. The counter to the "prison shanking" at 2:00 is identical to one taught by Decuerdas GM Arthur Gonzalez.
