I like the bamboo idea, light, strong and sustainable. I'm going to build a full coop, but with 2 dogs, use a tractor for the day time, non-freezing weather. Don't know that you need nesting boxes in a tractor? I hvae seen tractors that use the plastic, wavy roofing for the 3 sides of a tractor, I may do that. Then you cut down on the chicken wire...
hey nice coops but for the chickens sake foxes can cut thow that easy so u might wanna put some cheap ply wood there 2 its nice cheap and easy good job
try useing pvc 1 in about 11 pieces and i made 1 and its a 10 by 10 and 3 feet off the ground and i got bout 30 to 40 birds in there it cost about 100 to 150 and i hate chiken wire its a pice so we use black chicken wire but its made out a plastic its more expisvie er but better so u should at least try it its cool
Cool..I've seen PVC setups before and they're much more durable than the bamboo. I also agree that chicken wire is a (sharp) pain...plastic netting/fence seems like a good idea, too. The only thing is the weight...it gets hard to move something that big and heavy around...right?
im trying to make something like this but im gonna try and make mine out of scrap wood im just worried about predators , its gonna be about 7 ft long 3-4 ft wide and im hoping 12 chickens will be happy with it (thats the night time area or nesting area)
i laugh so hard and said this is me. recycle redude reuse and dumpster diving. i love it.

"...seems to be ok"...till the foxes and raccoons dig underneath. I recommend putting chicken wire on the floor section as well.

Seems reasonable...the plastic will make the setup more durable but also heavier, so a bit harder to drag around the back yard.

For the chickens sake, please make nesting boxes for them.

I like the bamboo idea. We have a chicken tractor made from pallets but it's too heavy.

you could put a couple of actual nesting boxes in there. they sell some at agway or tractor supply company. there only 15 bucks each.

Actually, the little "attic" with the rug floor acts as a nesting box....that's where they put their eggs, anyway.
