  • Who is Chrisisms?

  • I can't tolerate any amount of sugar, I've discovered. I just can't think clearly if I do.

    Even molasses messes me up.

A very good book on the subject is "Sugar Blues". It's quite old but still as relevant as ever.

After reading that I realised it's no better than heroin or cocaine.

  • It's worth pointing out that the line between food and drugs is a blurry one.

Both affect physiological processes. Both have psychoactive effects. Addictivity doesn't draw a line for us; some drugs aren't, and some foods are.

Sugar surely is addictive. Once your intake is high, it's devilishly difficult to quit.

    Thanks for your comment, capricious71.

  • Take water for example, if you take out the oxygen its just hydrogen, it tastes foul, and no one would buy it.

Hey, those chocolate companies have been putting unhealthy cocoa in their chocolate too! Take that away, and its nasty, no sensible person would buy it!

  • Unhealthy, how? Are you talking about alkalanization?

  • im learning so much. if only i could remember most of what im learning.

  • It's ok to take notes. :-)

  • Was about to ask if you'd heard of stevia, but then you described it at the end of the video.

  • Is honey a healthier alternative?

  • Probably a little.

Honey has a bit more sweetness for a given amount of calories, as compared to sugar, so it takes slightly less to sweeten food with it. That's a small plus. You can still blow your blood sugar sky-high with it, though.

Honey may also contain useful nutrients which are lacking in refined sugar, but I'm none too certain of that. It's hard to find credible science supporting the notion.

I use honey sparingly in my own diet.

  • you're the best!

  • I stumbled on your video series after my annual physical revealed an elevated blood pressure sufficient for my doctor to recommend I loose 10 (or preferably 20) pounds.

I've enjoyed your first three videos so far and thought I should take a minute to thank you. You are making me think about more than simple weight loss.

  • It's Stevia isn't it? Guess I'll have to watch and see.

  • Sugar(in excess) in any form (starch, grain, fruit) cause almost 100 adverse well-documented effects.

Impair immune system, diabetes, cancer, yeast candida infection, upset mineral relationship, ADHD, loss of tissue elasticity and function, weaken eyesight, premature aging, and more.

And artificial sweeteners ARE WORST THAN SUGAR. I would need 5 more post to fit in all side effects of those. AVOID Aspartame, Sucralose, Acesulfame-K, Saccharin.

  • It's a real pleasure to discuss this with someone who has done his homework! :-)

ADHD is also linked to food additives in studies. But details aside, industrially-processed diets are making us sick. I can't put it any plainer. Eating real food - not industrially processed, no drugs or antibiotics or toxins, no added sugar or corn syrup fructose etc - is much healthier.

  • Your insights have broadened my views on health =D Thank you

As i am learning more about our modern foods and lifestyles, i sometimes feel/think that the world is really sick and going worst.

But after that, i can see some light of hope as many bodies are emerging to battle the chaotic systems.

  • Awareness is on the rise, I think - partly, if not mostly, because of the internet. Traditional media is still catering to the diet industry and food and beverage advertisers.

The net is not terribly reliable as a source of information, of course. But there is a lot of discussion going on, and that's a positive sign.

  • Most people i encountered were easily tempted to reason their fast-food and processed-foods lifestyle by saying "life is short, might as well we enjoy it to the most"

I see that there is a big gap between our conceptions. What i think is "life is enjoyable when we are healthy, illness-free"

All the time. i would think that i am the right one, but may be things are not that simple.

What do you think about this, Urgelt?

  • Hobbes described life as "solitary, poor, brutal, nasty and short." He had a point.

But the decision to indulge in unhealthy foods and beverages is not usually a conscious trade-off, I think. It's made in ignorance, against which traditional media, with its ad-centered bias, is unhelpful. People do not know the harm they do - to themselves and their children.

  • Particularly refined high glycemic carbos are nasty as they lead to fast hyperglycemia. Also add to your list a severe inflammatory effects on the body systems (rusting/ oxidative/ free radical damage so to speak) which contributes to so many health problems (cardiac, autoimmune etc...)

Sucralose is a real garbage (chlorinated sugar close to the chemical structure of pesticides).

  • Today, americans eating average of 175 pounds of sugar a year!! Mainly from soft drinks, grains like wheat, corn, rice, potato, junk food, fruit juices, etc. To make things worst, the sugar is not just sugar. It is refined, processed sugar, it is hidden as HFCS High Frucose Corn Syrup (the #1 calorie source in amercia). Thats why the food pyramid is wrong. we need to reduce sugar and starch.

  • Couldn't agree more!

  • The obesity AND diabetes epidemic happening in US (perhaps in some other developed countries) is mainly because sugar overdose. As Urgelt said, our bodies dont handle sugar and simple carbohydrates that well. Our ancestors consume as little as 4 pounds of sugar a year. And it came mainly from natural raw honey. The problem with sugar today is that it is more than sugar!

  • Blaming diabetes on sugar overload is very mainstream. But it's a poorly studied hypothesis in humans.

I have a feeling that when the full diabetes story is written, industrial food processing methods, unsaturated nontropical oils, food additives, genetic predisposition, and even infectious pathogens may be found to be risk factors.

I think minimizing sugar is a safe bet. But I'm not at all convinced it will, by itself, assure avoidance of type II diabetes.

  • Similarly, obesity is proving to be more complex.

Diet is certainly a factor. But science keeps stumbling over other factors. Enterovirus infections are linked to obesity. Gut flora are dramatically different in obese persons - and transplanting gut flora from obese mice to sterile mice shows that obesity can be infectious. There's a lot more left to learn.

  • Diabetes.

Redundant protien and sugar in the absence of healthy fats. Sugar/glucose as in refined grains primarily and refined sugar secondary.

Also by the chemical Aloxin which is intentionally added to white bread bleaching process and is very effective at destroying pancreatic cells in small amounts. (By FDA order).

The disease-for profit industry all ready knows how to kill off millions with chemicals.

"Population control can be managed through food"- Henry Kissinger.

  • Correct spelling is Alloxan. In fact scientists use this chemical on lab rats to induce diabetic condition in rats because it destroys pancreatic cells efficiently. Yet it is allowed in the mass production of white bread and albeit other refined grains in the bleaching process.

Source article. Google: alloxan Idaho observer.

    or simply google: alloxan diabetes.

  • There is no one who has better explained true cause of diabetes better than Wai.

She will tell you in scientific terms why you must consume healthy fats with protiens and sugars (fruits) at every meal to control blood sugar and energy.

    Google: Waisays dot com

Scroll until you see true cause of diabetes.

Awesome site and nothing for sale.

  • diabetes can also be caused by your bodys own immune system which can attack any organ or gland and shut it down as in hashimottos thyroid

  • Yes, and it can also appear as a result of pregnancy. There are likely other factors science hasn't yet found.

We aren't very good at treating it, either. The drug Avandia recently came under fire for failing to reduce mortality rates at all for diabetics. Risk of death from heart failure actually goes up with the drug. So I agree, there is room for much improvement of our understanding of diabetes.

  • From the American diabetes association:

Myth #3 Eating too much sugar causes diabetes.

No. Diabetes is caused by a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors. However, being overweight does increase your risk for developing type 2 diabetes. If you have a history of diabetes in your family, eating a healthy meal plan and regular exercise are recommended to manage your weight.

  • Agreed, diabetes is more complex than "too much sugar causes it."

Still, there's a broadly accepted hypothesis about how a repeated excess of sugar leads to cellular insulin desensitization. Proven? Not really. The full story of type II diabetes has not been told. But I think excess sugar in diet is risky behavior.

  • hey dude u seriously have too much times on ya hand but ya vids are cool keeping me entertained who knows u might walk into a big discovery with the way ya going

well on too ya next vid !

  • if sugar was dynamite it would be no different but befor your last suggestion i tough "well better have loads of sugar than loads of chemicals" but then again why sevear your own arm off? feeding on potentialy dangerous products that you know are bad is not that different exept it takes longer. coffee any one? :P

  • In HE #4, I've provided an alternative no-calorie sweetener that I think is safe. Thanks for commenting, Slayer.

  • I don't even find coca cola or any soda remotely tasty. Candy is a different story however.

  • We all have our vulnerabilities, it seems. Candy can be very addictive.

  • I love pure cane sugar, honey, and augave syrup. :D (The latter has a low glycemic measure, so I can make cookies for my diabetic friends without worries).

  • Most of us adore sweet foods a little too much for our own good.

Agave has a lower glycemic index than sugar, true. But it's not true that it is safe in any amount for diabetics. Each diabetic's needs vary according to stage of disease and treatment efficacy.

Diabetics *always* have to worry about sweets.

  • i avoid high fructose corn syrup, enriched flour, sugar, saturated fats, and hydrogenated oils. Did you ever try agave, stevia, or xylitol?

  • I'm a big stevia fan; see HE #4. I have tried xylitol, but prefer stevia. I have not tried agave, but it's been brought to my attention by other viewers.

  • sugar is miny terminators, i like your video

  • * * * * * * * * * *

  • IMHO corn syrup is probably the most fattening and unhealty food additive on the market today. After the cost of cane sugar skyrocketed, more and more products started using cheap corn syrup to replace expensive sugar. Has anyone else here noticed that it's only withing the last 20-25 years America has been getting fatter? About the same time as the switch. Read your food labels-it's in darn near anything.

  • I used a blend of gray market carbless liquid sucralose and liquid saccharine for several years. This helped me not feel deprived. I see no adverse effects, as yet. Wish me luck.

  • Google "sucralose health risk" and "saccharine health risk" - and you'll find out what the adverse effects are.

You can make your own luck. :-)

  • good video. artificial sweeteners = poison.

  • I agree. It says volumes about who the FDA is serving. It's not citizens.

  • Have you read Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About by Kevin Trudeau? I highly reccommend it:) Thanks for another great video.

    God bless,

    Sam

  • I haven't. It sounds fascinating.

I'll soon begin a new series on the health care system in the US. It's too big to cover alone; perhaps you might want to make a few vids about natural cures?

  • Nah, I'm no speaker like you. My voice isn't nearly as pleasant and I pause too much. I'll content myself to watch yours:)

  • I pause too much, too, without a script. So... I use scripts. Anyone can do that.

You might be surprised to learn that *everyone* thinks their recorded voice is horrible. It's an illusion of physiology. Unless you gargle with gravel, I'm sure yours is fine. :-)

  • Ha ha ha! Can't say I've ever tried gargling with gravel. Ah, well;)

  • I'm convinced artificial sweeteners have addictive properties!

  • Heh, not in the classical sense, I think. But many of us have a sweet tooth. Deny us sugar, we'll want *something.* So I know where you are coming from. :-)

  • This is I believe, one of your most important videos. In 2 months only 263 views, though.

I get that many views in 2 hours on a lesser video - go figure!

Well, I'm going to change that for you. This video should be featured for its valuable info.

    Best of YouTube.

  • Thank you, MrEy.

I don't expect it to appeal to a large number of people. But a few of those who see it might be interested in learning more. Those are the people I hope to engage.

  • I have stevia in my home. It's all my father uses. Considering how potent it is, it's worth the cost. It must be heavily diluted. Peace!

  • aww man I drink kool-aid with splenda now instead of soda. I have no ill side effects from it though that I know of.

  • ahh it likes stevia is the only safe sugar substitute. thank you again.

  • For me, I've found that sugar as in processed sugars are very bad... and I think artificial sweeteners are worse because they created in labs. IMO, the less processed and the more natural the food, the more likely it is to be healthy. Which is why when I try to avoid all of those low cal and protein bar crap as well.

And the natural unprocessed sugars in fruits are quite nice...

  • Hmm... Stevia sounds interesting, I'll make sure to see if I can get some. Hope its not too expensive.

  • I use dates and figs to sweeten cakes when I make them. They're yummy. If I get cravings, I sometimes make a paste out of dates and cocoa powder, and use it as a spread.

  • Doctors warn diabetics against dates and figs because of their very high sugar content. They're certainly generating cravings. It sounds delicious, but I can't add it to my food intake without blowing my sugar load goals. :-(

  • the thing is yes it has high sugar content, but it's not refined which is slightly better. glucids (is that the english word) should not be over-consumed, but if you are not diabetic don't cut them completely (there's some in fruits & veggies anyways) because two organs in your body rely solely on glucose for functionning: your eyes and your brain.

  • Good series! I'm off to #4...

  • aagh artificial sweetners give me migraines. And i taste them as bitter instead of sweet
