Actually, it was a draw. At the end of the Japanese (original) version, you can hear Godzilla's roar signifying that he's still alive. It appears as if King Kong won since he's seen swimming away, but remember that Godzilla can live underwater. The American version omitted Godzilla's roar to skew the end results in (American originated) King Kong's favor.

You're correct that King Kong was more popular than Godzilla at the time. In fact, Godzilla was still considered a villain back then. However, as the film ends & the screen fades to black, "Owari" (The End) appears on the screen, and Godzilla's roar followed by Kong's is heard on the Japanese soundtrack. This was akin to the monsters "taking a bow" or saying "Goodbye" to the audience since at this point the film is over. In the American version, only Kong's roar is present on the soundtrack.

No this film was supposed to be King Kong vs Frankenstein. When Toho purchased the script from John Beck (who had stolen it from Willis O'Brien), they replaced Frankenstein with Godzilla. Frankenstein vs Godzilla was concieved after this film in 1963. It became Mothra vs Godzilla and Frankenstein vs Baragon (Frankenstein conquers the World) instead.

Don't worry about it, in all honesty they kind of 'Buffed' King Kong for that v.s. movie. . . Since King Kong is actually only 50 feet tall in his movies. (Wont even go up to Godzilla's knees, hence why King Kong can climb the empire state building, and Godzilla can pick it up and toss it.)

Also, King Kong never had the ability to 'absorb' electricity. This was something else added to even the odds between the two monsters.

No they didn't the ending in Japan differed only in that at the end after the blackout you hear both of the them roar. In the american version neither roars. By the way Godzilla beat King Kong. At the end Kong is retreating and Godzilla is chasing him, but he swims underwater so you couldn't see him.
