This is the first time I've EVER used my YouTube Account to comment. That being said, I think this is proof why the Manic Street Preachers are severely underrated.
Anyone know the chords he is playing? Tabs i have seen seem to suggest E, B, C#m and A, but that doesnt look like the chords he is playing here. Great vid by the way, a shame there are so few acoustic MSP videos.
@robbiebabysham Thanks, that seems like it - i think i spotted JDB a few times playing an A up at the 2nd fret by barring across the three strings. That'll do for me.
Great vocal but the piano player is truely terrible. Bum notes galore, major mistakes with the sustain peddle - sounds like he'd fail a grade 1 music exam.
@Supaduck0 No it's not. It's cuz 1. Richey went missing the day before they were to leave for America, 2. The Gallagher brothers had a falling out which lead to the Manics (who were due to tour with them) to miss yet another shot in the states
just pure class, a fantastic version of my fav manics song. any version of this beautiful song is a pleasure to listen to, the great vocals of MR JDB... a job well done...
@foreverashcroft ..oh old account, still this version is haunting,i love the manics.. JDB, always cites The Clash as one of the bands main influences, and sound.. need to listen to this again...
fucking awesome. JDB's voice is amazing...conveys so much passion and energy. I just wish the manics weren't so "political". Concentrate on the music guys!
Political? Its what they are all about dude...I wish more groups and more people were more political in their thinking, then we wouldnt screwed over and treated like scum by the elite.
Think outside the box and stop existing in yr Capitalist utopia!
tell me how this is anti-capitalistic? don't me wrong but surely this song is about distopia and depression? What political point does it make apart from disaffection with the main stream?
Dystopia caused by capitalist society. PS I was replying to the fact The Manics are a political group with something to say, the muffin who wished they werent political was the one i was making a poin to.
I remember seeing this on MTV2 years ago, was the first time i'd heard it when I was getting into the Manics and I thought this sounded brilliant. Really good live performance. Eringa on keyboards is great too. Love James' hat!!!!
Don't get me wrong, I like U2, well at least their previous efforts.
But you cannot deny Bono is a prick. Can't stand the sight of him live now. That live show they did above the BBC rooftop for the new album......I would have pushed him over the safety barrier.
it's disgusting that slimeball twat Bono (give to charity, but my money is in a tax haven) and his troops have their global success and manics dont. MSP are a million times better!!!
great version =) i like this acoustic better than the original. I prefer it played by a cover band of a friend of mine, Cauda de Tesoura, it's magical! if i record it i'll put it here for you to hear =)
yeah it's 1993. james is wearing all black + the hat he used to wear during the GATS era, i.e. mid-to-late 1993. in fact, he's dressed like this in one of the photos in the GATS sleeve.

the singing lessons JDB had after Everything Must Go ruined his voice. It's way too nasaly and squeaky now - this sounds 100x more powerful.

Question: Why aren't the Manics global superstars?
Answer: Because they aren't and never have been willing to suck the cock of satan like every global superstar since the 80s has.

James can sing what he want, he's well known for switching about lyrics on live performances
seanlad 2 years ago 3
What lyric does he sing between 25 and 30 seconds?
bennyboy0908765 2 years ago
it's "itemize loathing" in Welsh, methinks. I still love this version so much.
theyarejustlizards 2 years ago
I'm slightly unsure about that but because i can't speak Welsh then i'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
bennyboy0908765 2 years ago
I think he sings organised loathing but i could be wrong

nah its itemize loathing, the organise lyric comes intp the song when it says : 'organize ur safe tribal war'
