  • I hate these 3d elements. The other version is better in my opinion and I miss Conrads pink shirt;)

  • Reminds me of Total Recall

  • Not so sure about the intro to the CD version. It's, I dunno, not as god as the SNES and Amiga versions I grew up with.

  • The intro music is beautiful, but about those new animations I prefer the original.

  • Comment removed

  • You can see how they went on to make Fade to Black - it was the same models. But all the Art from the 2D hand animation is missing from both this cut-scene and the sequel game.

  • Fuck that CG. The PC version, now that was some smooth fucking animation AND great music.

  • deepest and fascinating game of its time

  • Indeed, great graphics messed up cutscene.

"Hey cool let's add this title in between the shots"

"Let's change the chase scene so that it seems shorter"

  • There is a ROM of Flashback Legends flying around the internet - the unfinished 2D sequel to Fade to Black on the GBA. Apparently its fairly playable

  • I felt the same way about playing Fade to Black for the playstation... but they are completely different. Like the difference between the original Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Sunshine.

I agree that better graphics doesn't mean better gameplay... but to be fair I think that the CD version had similar gameplay. It is just that the intro, the music and the cutscenes were totally different. The CD version was more realistic, but it took away from the original fantasy element.

  • The original Amiga version was much better. Why? IMHO that version had more of a fantasy art environment that reminds me of the cool creative stuff in music and film that came out in the 70s. Kind of like old Star Wars versus new Star Wars. And when they did Fade to Black it really was a curtain call.

Edit: Actually after watching the Amiga version I meant to say the Genesis version because the sound was much "fatter" and smoother than the CD version.

  • they fucked with an awsome cutscene.

    fucking cg

  • I prefer the original Amiga intro - the music was better too!

  • Why would someone release such a spectacular game only to add on some shitty 3d cutscenes. I don't care how impressive they were at the time, the original effects are still more appreciable.

  • Original platform: Amiga in 1992. Ported to PC and consoles the following year.

  • Nah sorry much prefer the original version of the opening.

  • This game has vibes of Total Recall and They Live. A classic recipe for awesome. XD The beginning cinema reminds me of Return of the Jedi crossed with Space Quest 2. I would totally buy this soundtrack.

  • Howdy Quade. You, are not you, you're me.

  • Do know if Tommy Tallarico did the soundtrack to this version of Flashback? He did the soundtrack to The Terminator on Sega CD (and it was awesome, as we would expect from a Tallarico soundtrack).

  • Victor! Give the people some A-ah!

  • See you at the pahtee, Richtah! XD

Note: It's "Come on, Cohagen! You got what you want! Give these people ayah!"

    \8-D

  • Yea you're right, been so long since I seen that movie lol!

  • I didn't know they made this on the Sega CD. It looks better. Nice

  • Lol, when the holocube thing starts up at 2.03 you can hear a lightsaber sound

  • This is the sequel os Fade to Black? seems more old than it.

  • Fade to Black is sequel to this.

  • Ahhh ok thanks man.

  • Other way around. Fade to Black was the sequel to Flashback (but Flashback was more fun if you ask me).

  • yeah I was disapointed in this game on the 3DO. The SNES/Genesis versions had better videos becuase they were real time and the videos on this when you actually watched the on the SCD or 3DO had such poor picture quality. The Music and SFX in the SNES version are better than the 3DO!!! BOOOOO! I like this game but on SNES.

  • the Genesis and SNES versions are just like the original Dos version. I was actually impressed by the Sega CD version. They had redone all the cutscenes in CG with the best video quality I've ever seen on the system. Then they took it a step further by doing voice overs for all the dialog in the game. The voice acting isn't great, but I didn't expect it.

  • My favorite version of this game is found on the Sega Genesis. Faster cinemas than on snes and smoother animation overall. The snes one is really good but it chugs a bit on cinemas and when there are many animation sequences onscreen. Two enemies and yourself=guaranteed slowdown. I do want to play this for the voice-overs, see how it works. But, the new CG graphics take away from the quality of the old animated ones.

  • Man, the Snes version has much cooler music. And I think I even prefer the videos in it.

  • whoever cut this version of the video was a fool. whats with the "flashback" text cutting in. looks bad.

  • More constructive criticism please.

Why do you blame me for the "flashback" text cutting in? The game was made that way, maybe you are the fool:)

  • dude, i wasnt blaming you, i was just saying it was a bad idea to have the flashback text cutting in and stopping the intro and music, i know it has nothing to do with you. I also think the way they swap the music doesn't work very well.

  • I`m sorry I managed to misunderstand that. English is not my primary language.

You are right when you say that the intro might have looked better if they had cut it different.

  • I want to play this game ... wich version is the best?

i don't want bad movies, so i think snes, md or jaguar version is my choice. what is the deiffernce between 16bit (snes, md) and 32bit (jaguar) version?

Was there a CD32 Version? How is it?

    Many thanks!

  • SNES and MD were basically identical, but the movie animations slowed down on the SNES and played full speed on the MD.

I think there was a CD32 version and it would probably be exactly like the Sega CD version with the new movies. When the CD systems came out, they all seemed to get the new CD version of the game.

  • what ?!?!?!?! My GENESIS version is VERY VERY VERY different from this one.. from graphics to sound, so... everything

  • Yeah, it looks like we got the short end of the stick, but I prefer the MegaDrives music.

  • yeah me too

  • Good memories...

  • yeah. Same here!

  • i remember this when i was a kid! love it!

  • Amazing game! Absoloute CLASSIC!! Remebering playing it when I was about 5 or so lol such a good game. Old PC games do kick ass.

  • Excellent game - had the Amiga version - on of my favourite games.

  • Although the in-game musics were fine, I think it ruined the great ambience of the game. The original 16bit version had background sounds only which made the experience more thrilling. Also, there were some times when you could hear some music and all of them were very exciting.

  • omfg...this is awesome! i should get it! i have the sega genesis version...with no dialogue, just subtitles... must get...

  • Damn this brings back memories.

  • I completed this when i was about 4 or 5 with my dad! lol! GREAT GAME!

  • this version had be great if they havnt changed the movies in some kind of bad 3D,,, so i prefer the Snes ver or the ps2 ver
