about "kitting" it, I put together several parts into one print, having physically connected them like the model airplane kits I used to buy as a kid. works fine and sells everything as one kit, a little cutting appart is required though. ;-)
You may want to make a ring to mount the gopro protective lens hardware in front to avoid bricking the GoPro by a rough landing.
Very nice design! I was confused at first because it looked like just a pan and tilt setup and then the rotate function cracked me up! My next "step" of the design would be to smooth out or dampen the action. In my experience that is critical for shooting good video. Better servos would definitely be on the short list, as would some sort some sort of dampener . It could be as easy as an O-ring compressed on the pivot shafts or 2 Mini/Micro RC Car oil dampeners.
@KenYaptrick - if you mean the little white twist knob that closes the two halves, yes it comes with the backcage. It is printed in the same file but is a separate piece.
@skrulonair - I'm doing this as a hobby. By selling it through Shapeways they take care of everything. Unfortunately they don't allow to bundle a set of parts as a set, and it's also not possible to add other components like servos, etc.
Could you take a video WITH the gopro in that, and do a wiggle stress test so that we could see what its like to move the camera around, from the recording perspective?
Wow, I like the concept you've used on the roll. For it not to over stress, and snap when rolling, have you used a balljoint of some sort in there? Very clever, have you a package for sale perhaps that I can integrate with my Arducopter?
@downteam: yes, well spotted... the original lens got damaged in a crash... The GoPro lens is actually a standard M12 CCTV lens barrel, so most webcam-style lenses will fit. It's difficult to find one with enough sharpness - search for "megapixel lens". I bought mine at MicroSeven, but they discontinued it. The one currently mounted is about the same as the original, but I also have longer lenses. The other thing to note is that you need a lens with IR cut filter. I bought one at ebay separately.
I glued the IR cut filter to the back of the lens and then screwed it back into the GoPro. I then used the TV out to focus the lens, and checked the fine adjustment by taking HD test videos. I also used a small amount of threadlock to fix the lens (the original lens was glued in as well - needs a bit of force to undo...).
I wrote the software myself to control this, and also developed the electronics. It basically integrates the rotation rates measured by the gyro, and applies the exact rotation (but opposite) to the servos - needs a bit of fine-tuning.
having fun?

Looks very bouncy on quick movement could actually cause you plane to stall out on slow flights and change direction suddenly when flying fast.

are the parts created on one of those 3D printers?

Please try to make into an active-stabilizer. Then smaller then you can make a ton of cash selling it

Poor design - too much shake due to flexi arm. I would rather build something more robust.
Thanks for sharing

The WSF has too much flex in it and the arms seem a little too thin.

Hi, found this when searching for ideas for my camera gimbal.
Is there any chance you would share the CAD files so I could adapt it to other camera ? - I promise not to sell it, that would save me some time.

Integrated with a few gyros and digital stabilization, the video from this could be very appealing to reconnaissance enthusiasts.

@helixdesign Why not simply upload a new file with all parts included but unconnected, that's how I make sets.

I don't seem to be able to post links - if you go to vimeo dot com / 14108070 you'll find more information on the lens and filter.
