Here in finland we used to go at 240 i think but they now reduced the pendolino service to just 200km/h whilst the other IC trains (double decker) go at 160km/h.
We do have HST, but the trouble is, that HSR are for lines that have speed limits of 155mph or above - the fastest speed limit on british rail is 125mph, and theres only 4 lines that can do this.
@CrazyInWeston oh. Well are they building new tracks now or are they planning??? I live in Canada and from what I know is that they are planning to built some high speed train tracks from Toronto to Montreal and in the US from San Diego to Seattle and from NY to miami. So they are planning to get something done here so Im sure they are doing something in the UK unless there is no need for 200mph trains.
@LSBonnPower Well they tried increasing 2 main lines to 140mph, but it failed on the fact that the trains would need in-cab signalling, current plans are to get some built from london to 3 major cities by 2025, so i can't really see britian doing this anyway now that this new government has called for cutbacks in almost everything!
@CrazyInWeston Hey I actually have some "good" news for ya. The DB (The German train system thing, whatever you wanna call it) now has the permission to use the eurotunnel. They are planning on having the ICE 3 go from Frankfurt to London (through Belgium and France) within 5 hours. They ran some test on October 17, 2010 and plan on putting the line in service sometime in 2011 :)
@CrazyInWeston It's ironic that the Brits had the steam train speed record of 125mph in 1938 and we haven't advanced since then, 72 years later. Hey ho.
@xraycortina Its like British Broadband, while we have one of the oldest copper wiring in the world, other countries are more into doing Fibre Optics for broadband, for example Korea and Japan. In the Broadband world, Britain lags behind, just like in trains.
@Borbuster Not really servicing the railway of the UK is it, just a short line connecting Europe from London, you still have to suffer slower trains from elsewhere to the London Eurostar connection. Even so, the max speed limit on UK side of Eurostar is 186mph, however there are many many places where it goes slower than this.
I've been on the TGV to Avignon (rural France) and we were on the second floor. It was pretty scary because pastures and fields and farms were just flying by...
Haven't been on one of these yet, but the TGV is pretty cool. How fast is it going? I would think it is some way below 200mph in all honesty. Nice to see and can't wait to see them coming to G.B. (ain't holding my breath!) Nice posting; thanks.
The sign is for "no luggage."

Why is it driving von the left hand side? In Germany, trains normally drive on the right hand side.

@eltfell The ICE-3 is in France, on the line from Paris.

I love the ICE 3! I got to ride it on the new Frankfurt - Cologne route in 2003.

Nice Office! I should have TRIED to move to Europe 20 years ago. Sigh.
I would not mind having an audience behind me watching me at work! :-)
5 Stars! GREAT Video!

THAT IS AMAZING - why cant we british have such good trains? :-(

The same thing as in Austria - too many hills and curves! Most of these trains couldn't go more than 100-150 mph in both Austria and Britain.

@LSBonnPower Nice that's encouraging news, hopefully they can see the great benefits of proper HSR and place lines around the country.
