I too am a fan of both bands... but I love the rolling piano and bouncing horns much more than Johnny Marr's jangly guitar in this cover. Makes the requisite depressing Smiths style more whimsical as only TBS can do.

I saw The Beautiful South in LA in 2000 and Morrissey was also watching the show alone in the upper section of The House of Blues. It was odd to see the band play and then look over and see Morrissey also enjoying the show.

Though I am a bona-fide fan of The Smiths, there is something quirky and terribly acceptable to this rendition of the song.  The pivoting horns actually work, and the vocals are fitting.
