i'm italian and i come from naples, this version of the song is good performed, but Lucio Dalla do it better. The best performer is Luciano Pavarotti. please when you talk about this song don't say it's an italian song, this is a "canzone ANTICA napoletana" (that's very different to the actual neapolitan music.

This is a beautiful song and beautifully sung. It would never work if sung in English.

There are one or two mistakes in the translation though. At the beginning it was he that was crying, not the girl.

The true meaning of the song is open to debate. Italian has many subtleties in the language and it is not clear if he is singing to his beloved or his daughter or mother as he is about to die.

Written by Lucio Dalla in 1986 this song is eternal.
