Been riding street for over 20 years. about half my life. front 70% rear 30%. so at 100mph your front is responsible for 70mph - 0. back is 30mph - 0.
That is just an example of course. you would never use your rear alone or more then 30% of the time either. but looking at the example using your front only means your stopping distance is increased.
video was quite useless. he didnt look back and he lurched forward on start. I'm no expert but neither is this guy!!!!
I agree with 92XJlaredo, yes the rear brake should be used instead of the front brake while riding a motorcycle in the snow, but other than that, there is very little use for the rear brake. It should be noted, when riding your motorcycle in a snow storm, use only the rear brake and not the front brake.
hahah a real sport bike rider uses the rear brake a good amount of the time. yes the front is far more powerful, at the same time front brakes are always more powerful in just about anything. besides its a good habit to get into that way your instincts tell you to use both those brakes in an emergency...this video should prolly be removed before someone who has never ridden before listens to this moron
when riding the front brake is used about 70% of the time while the rear brake is 30% of the time and this guy does look like he is a new rider he reved the bike a lot kinda like he was showing off :p
Wow... always use your rear brake except for certain circumstances. such as slick wet roads, it cuts down on ware of your front and gives you a faster smoother stop. Secondly this guy looks like he just started riding, specially by his revs and take off.
He does look like he just started riding but you are incorrect about the rear brake. The rear brake is used very very little. Using it is much more dangerous than using the front brake.
To allow the engine to warm up evenly. It allows the seals on the cylinders to be stretched in just the right way, causing less wear, and allows the oil to heat up, along with making sure if anything goes wrong it goes wron at lower rpm's instead of high.
expert village vids on bikes are the worst vids around they dont do anythig the have on the heading of the vid.Especially the stunting vids which just talk about it sorry but that shit useless ..everyone has an idea or opinion on how certain things are done in theory its not to practical side is shown that the thoery has any credit and all comments made by the so called instructors are stated quite different from the best stunters in the world who brake every step down and show you step by step.
Dude what you just said is a fact. Expertvillage are shit a giving tutorials, they dont even help. There clips are short and they dont have time to explain. These are the people that make young riders crash
never use the front brake when you're turning, like rasqo3 said use the rear brake to slow down if you're doing a turn too fast, and the front for the basic stop, i personally use about 80% front brake and 20% rear brake.. if you're riding in an unknow street or road, first let the normal motor brake slow the bike down, then use the rear brake, always the rear brake on roads that may have sand and this kind of things
Front AND back working together is the best way to slow and stop. But front brake in rain or snow, or even an oily patch on the road, if locked up will cause you to skid out from the front and fall over. Just get a feel for the brakes when you get on your bike and start rideing
In the uk your taught to always use the front to brake to stop at all times with a little rear braking, But never while cornering, even while doing the emergency stop its still 70% front brake and 30% rear
It's ok buddy. They don't understand the difference between track riding vs street riding. More of those sucker probably riding squid. Let allow their skillz on the bikes. Let's their faces meet the pavement a few times. People usually learn from the hard way.
under really hard braking the rear brake is almost pointless on a sportbike. if you watch races, they routinely lift the rear tire under hard braking, which means the rear brake will give them zero help. its better used to help scrub speed in a turn (used lightly), or for slow speed stops and maneuvers. when doing a normal stop (not hard braking) use the rear brake. but under heavy braking, where nearly 100% of your stopping power is up front, theres no point.
buy and old bike for $500 and take it to the dirt and tear it (and yourself) up - then we you get used to the feel of riding get yourself a better bike - i ride almost every day and i get scared every time i get in the street cuz you never know what cars will do - only a fool isn't scared
Once again, I agree. I've been riding for over 18 years and I still learn something every time I go riding. It's scary to see these first time riders go into the dealership and buy Busas' and R1s for their first bike and then think they are Nicky Hayden after one summer! I see it all to often here in Augusta GA. Many injuries and deaths because of it. For some odd reason, these people think that these machines are mini bikes or something. Until it's too late.
A great starter bike would be the Kawi 250 Ninja. Very affordable, light and just enough power to teach you without getting too far out of your personal limits. I would ride that for at least a year before moving up to the 600's. If you wanna go straight to the 600's, I would recommend the pre 2000 Honda CBR or the Yamaha FZR 600. Their power deliveries are very manageable and very forgiving. Leave the 750's and 1000's on up ALONE! Trust me. Ride five years before moving up to those beast.
Wow! Thank goodness you ditched that idea. The R1 is a serious machine. It's power delivery is instant. Very little room for error. Give yourself a few years of riding and then move up to that. We had a beginner rider here in Augusta last year that bought a 2008 R1 at 1:00pm and was dead at 5:00pm. He had very little throttle control and crashed into a tree. I have ridden the R1,Busa,ZX14 and CBR 1000. They are beasts! Not to be toyed with. 18yrs of riding and they still scare me. Peace
I need to mention that after 18yrs of riding, I have also had 4 accidents. One very serious that left me with broken ribs and scrapes and bruises. I was out of work for 6 months. One of the guys riding in my group was killed. A motorist decided it would be fun to slam on brakes in front of us. My experience saved me because I was able to maneuver around the car before laying it down. The rider killed had only been riding 2 weeks and was on a GSX1000. He never had a chance.
Your advice will be passed on to my other 3 friends who are getting their licence at the same time as me. Thank you. I no doubt will have more questions to ask you...hence the friend invite.
No problem friend. I will be glad to answer any questions you have and if I don't know the answer, I will find it and relay it to you as quickly as possible. I have a ton of friends that are experienced riders. Some even race on weekends. One is a motorcycle cop. In the meantime, please don't get anything over a 600 cc right now. Chat with you soon. Peace
Just buy a CBR 600 ABS, that way you can use rear brake all the time, since it incorporates the front brake automatically whenever you use just the rear brake pedal. Front brake on these is still like on a regular bike, but i would use rear on these bikes anyways. Better safe than sorry.
dont listen to this mother fucker never use your front brakes all the way unless u have been rideing for a long time even then its dangerous u use both the front a little more than the back but use both wut the fuck is wrong with this guy hes gunna get someone hurt

Please explain to me Ched or Chad, how do you shift gears? At the and when you left it seems to me like a very very bad gear change. You change with or without the cluch? At low speeds, low revs it's indeed better to use the cluch. But at high speeds and revs it's very RECOMMENDED to shift without the cluch.

filcox, firstly it's our language (hence it is called English and not American) so I think we can do with it whatever we choose, secondly, it is the Americans who are so full of both themselves and shit, just like this video
goddarjock, let me get this straight, you claim that it's not believable that this guy knows what he's doing based solely on the type of bike that he's riding? Man, how does it feel having a pile of shit for brains?
ive been riding with glasses for over 3 years now. the way i see it if im goign to crash hard enough to wreck my glasses. my helmets gotta break first, so im dead anyway.
why whats wrong with wearing jeans? i mean i know leather is supposed to better protect you in case of a wipeout, but other than that whats wrong with jeans?
jeans will shred like toilet paper at any decent speed. I bailed in a parking lot going 25 when i first started. helmet and leather jacket worked, but my jean covered legs looked like fucking bloody dog food
im just now thinking about getting into riding. I need to know something. Do u have to squeeze the clutch for every gear u change? and how fast do u usually need to be going to get out of first gear? thanks man.
switching out of first gear you half to relize that shift points are diff. on each bike A good way to judge the shift point on a bike is to start off shifting at lower rpm and see how each gear reacts If the bike dogs down then you neen to be at a higher rpm the clutch if your riding on the street your going to use the clutch everytime but if your racing then you can do redline shifting whitch you use no cluch and just bump into the next gear expect to go through gear boxes
ok listen. the front brake has a much bigger contribution to stopping because... any guesses? no? yeah it's about the weight shift. when the bike slows down, the rear becomes lighter... why would you use the rear brake for the majority of your braking? all it will do is break loose and wobble. i've seen guys go unconsious from the shaking. front and both used together make for even faster stoping if you are going for best results. happy riding
WHEN U R READING THIS DONT STOP OR SOMETHING BAD WILL HAPPEN MY NAME IS SUMMER I AM 15 YEARS OLD i have BLONDE HAIR , SCARS no NOSE OR EARS I AM DEAD IF U DONT COPY THIS JUS LIKE FROM THE RING COPY N POST THIS ON 5 MORE SITES OR I WILL APPEAR ONE CREEPY NIGHT WEN UR NOT ExPECTING IT BY YOUR BED WITH A NIFE AND KILL U THIS IS NO JOKE SUMMET ING GOOD WILL HAPPEN TO U IF YOU POST THIS ON 5 MORE FLASH BOXES
What's the point of this demonstration? It's like a Ponty Python sketch - How to play the flute: you blow in one end and move your fingers up and down the outside.
I think this guy wants a topic so he can post stuff online....b/c ppl who motorcycle already know this and for ppl who don't know...he talks too fast...still not a bad series of videos though

You shouldn't use your rear brake heavily while downshifting or cornering as it can lock up the rear wheel and cause a skid.
But when coming to a stop, you should use both brakes.

filcox, firstly it's our language (hence it is called English and not American) so I think we can do with it whatever we choose, secondly, it is the Americans who are so full of both themselves and shit, just like this video

sport bike? the yamaha yzf 600? not even an R6... this guy wants us to believe he knows what hes doing. he's not doing a very good job.
goddardjock 4 years ago
goddarjock, let me get this straight, you claim that it's not believable that this guy knows what he's doing based solely on the type of bike that he's riding? Man, how does it feel having a pile of shit for brains?

why whats wrong with wearing jeans? i mean i know leather is supposed to better protect you in case of a wipeout, but other than that whats wrong with jeans?
Cawood222 4 years ago
jeans will shred like toilet paper at any decent speed. I bailed in a parking lot going 25 when i first started. helmet and leather jacket worked, but my jean covered legs looked like fucking bloody dog food

lol i be riding with sweat pants.. i cant afford to get the right gear right now so fuck it.
AIpha0mega 4 years ago
that bike only has 5 gears? my 250 ninja has 6! although he would probably smoke me
gsxrkidd 4 years ago
im just now thinking about getting into riding. I need to know something. Do u have to squeeze the clutch for every gear u change? and how fast do u usually need to be going to get out of first gear? thanks man.
BleedBLUE87 4 years ago
switching out of first gear you half to relize that shift points are diff. on each bike A good way to judge the shift point on a bike is to start off shifting at lower rpm and see how each gear reacts If the bike dogs down then you neen to be at a higher rpm the clutch if your riding on the street your going to use the clutch everytime but if your racing then you can do redline shifting whitch you use no cluch and just bump into the next gear expect to go through gear boxes

haha 75% front braking... really?
front brake has 6 piston-calipers while the rear break has only one piston caliper.... lol
thank you captain obvious
hondadirtbike17 4 years ago
ok listen. the front brake has a much bigger contribution to stopping because... any guesses? no? yeah it's about the weight shift. when the bike slows down, the rear becomes lighter... why would you use the rear brake for the majority of your braking? all it will do is break loose and wobble. i've seen guys go unconsious from the shaking. front and both used together make for even faster stoping if you are going for best results. happy riding
goddardjock 4 years ago
I'm still a "squid" so can somebody tell me the difference of using the front brake compared to the rear brake and it's benefits?
flynn6306 4 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
rear brake dont do shit on a bike 75 percent of your stopping power comes fron front brake. front brake has 2 rotors rear has one.

What's the point of this demonstration? It's like a Ponty Python sketch - How to play the flute: you blow in one end and move your fingers up and down the outside.
Wasting my time should be a criminal offence.
