foe newer version of VLC, instead of opening FILE, you go to MEDIA > CONVERT/SAVE. then it is quite simple from there.

It works, just make sure you download the correct version of VLC from google, It should be the older VLC media player 0.8.6i, the newer versions of VLC does not allow you to convert videos.

Wanted to try to spatialize enhancing the audio but sure is hell VLC would not convert. Opened my Windows Movie Maker to try and take what I thought was a saved DKRC w/VLC audio spatialize and sure as crap NO FRIGGIN CHANGE! So I will definately try the older version!!

In the new VLC (1.1.5 as of this writing), do the following: CLick on "Media", click on "Covert/Save" then click the "Add" button. Browse to the file you wish to convert. Click down at the bottom where it says "Conver/Save" and the window will change. If ChannelLight Vessel is right about the new version not being able to convert, I am really p***** off! Cause I went to a computer expert company and payed them to upgrade my computer in order for me to rip DVDs (VOB files) and upload them to Youtube. And they installed the VLC. It plays the DVDs without problem. But when I have ripped it, and tries to load it up unto Youtube after having portioned it out on Windows Live Movie Maker - it wont load up. I save as movie, but file still too big.???

OK I have a prob with VLC....I am using win 7...Before when I used VLC as my default player, it would make my toolbar icons all "VLC traffic cones"....Now i don't make it my default player....But now it does something really strange...When I install VLC, and i click on any icon like excel, word, etc on my toolbar, VLC opens up....Word, excel, etc. doesn't open...Only VLC opens up ?? Hey guys, all of the same options are still on VLC Player, you simply have to look for them. For instance: in my version of VLC (more recent than the video post, I'm sure) I simply searched around a bit, and you go through Media > Convert/Save > Add > Click Convert/Save > Insert Destination File > Select Settings Profile > click the icon for "Edit Selected Profile" and choose encapsulation and codecs. > Start.

Wake up and troubleshoot.

ctrl + r on version 1.0 and up. to change to a file type that is not there just add the extension u would like for example 'randomsong.mkv' this will turn the file into mkv. i've noticed that sometimes the video doesn't get encoded so click on the 'dump raw input' and it should just chuck everything into the file type u want.

I had to find another program to convert my videos.

Right now I use Handbrake and I am testing the Hamster Free Video Converter.

Why is everyone like "VLC is awesome", it's shit! I can't rip my own fucking DVD, it doesnt have copy protection on as I made the DVD. You can get TubeTilla and get video from youtube for free. Upgrade TT to get videos elsewhere other than YouTube.

But if you dont want TT, you need to look for older versions of this VLC Player. That should solve your problem.

No, Mpeg1 is closer to mp3. MP3 means "Mpeg1 Audio layer 3".

You can associate file extensions during the installation, and also after it by going to Tools | Interface | Association Setup.
