can you help me i have a pond that is 24 inch deep and maybe about 300 gallons and have 12 fish, small koi and goldfish. We are gonna dig it deeper for winter so how deep do you recommend. Do you recommend a deicer too? i live in chicago so it is pretty cold, thanks
@khimlord koi are very hardy cold water fish. there can be a foot of ice and theyll live, just have a hole for gas exchange in the ice. dont feed them at all if the WATER tempratur is below 50, because then the food just sits in their stomachs and may actualy poison them.
you have some very beautiful kois there along with a clean and smooth running pond, I LOVE IT, i hope some day i have one like this too...btw like the music too very peacefully and with happy feeling ^__^

koi can live in cold weather.. i have a pond that froze over winter.. they are still alive.

I use a Electro pond heater and keep the pond at 14c min during the winter
