@Superflyyfosho there are many things that could be reasoning for this. One you school probably has money to spend on band.....therefore in middle school more focus is on it...this band does not look to large, when small schools have bands they usually don't get much money
@danitz56 our band went down to coastal carolina university to play this actually, and robert sheldon was there to help us with things he thought would be better. and youre right, this tempo is about right. i think a little faster would be better tho, because in the beginning, it is a fast paced song. it is pretty awesome tho
this year for district festival the 8th grade band i play in played this and we scored three 1+"s and a 1. this piece was very difficult but we managed to get through it and i agree that this piece is high school level. but to me this school did a very good job. two thumbs up
Just because a piece is written FOR a group doesn't mean they'll be able to perform it well. The kids are struggling just to get through the piece.
To you that might be a normal thing because they're kids, but from a fellow educator, it means that he's teaching his kids that making bad sounds on their instruments is acceptable. They're in High school...they should be playing this music at a higher level, not having difficulty with a piece that most middle schoolers could play.
I agree. I played tuba with them for the premier of the song last year. The premier was actually performed by the 8th grade band, with a few high school volunteers, and me (Class of '07). That group sounded way better.
Junior all state, anybody?

no offense but our school, a middle school, did this song much faster, and got a gold medal in the high note music festival.

tempo means nothing, really. robert sheldon wrote this song for us, and this is about the tempo he conducted it at when he was here.
