  • if offiah stayed in RU he would have been a bigger cunt than he is now

  • Eric Grothe would have made Offiah look like a boy!

  • All the union vs league bollocks makes me laugh, i posted the video because i thought he was a tremendous player who would have in time i believe been a world beater in union if he had of stayed. I am a union player and fan, i watch SL but one thing i do know, trying to compare the different codes is like trying to compare apples and pears, or more pertinantly, trying to compare GAA and Aussie rules, different games, different attributes and skills needed.

  • It had nothing to do with his colour because Rory Underwood half oriental his mothers side (look at his eyes)or what school he went to, he just wasnt good enough. His defence (which is what I have been saying from the start) was crap, he was fast and had nothing else. as for who was faster Martin said he thought he was the fastest sprinter in sport but when Rory challenged him he declined (I wonder why?)

  • Offiah left Union at a young age so we will never know how good he could have been.

The RU was always an "old boys network" although this attitude is slowly been left behind where it belongs.

If they taught Rugby Union in the big inner city schools we would be world champions right now in my opinion.

  • Men against boys is what gusscott said by the way not me.

So Mr halfpint give me some Union facts to show all the people who commented on this video what you are trying explain.

I've read every comment about this video and nobody seems to be backing you up. It seems to be you against

world. Maybe it's 'cos Union fans know they'd lose the argument too!! What you think?? Mmm I might right..

  • Well if you read EVERY post like you say you have you would have read that I AM A LEAGUE FAN. This isnt about League vs Union its about Underwood been better Offiah, and he only came to League cos he couldnt get into the England side cos he has speed and nothing else his defence was utter garbage. Fast yes but what else did he have? It will be intrasting to see if Penny of Warrington will give anything alse other than pace and if he can defend then he will be better than Offiah too.

  • Your'e missing the point Offaih was plucked from Union after he was spotted in Middlesex sevens by Doug laughton.

He was a young pup and wasn't even in International reckoning as he only just started playing rugby union.

So to say he wasn't good enough is way off the mark.

Underwood was already a seasoned international before offaih came on the scene.

He wasn't as fast as Offiah and he wasn't that great in defence either.

  • Dont know if you have noticed but 7s are played by the fringe players not the top players so Offiah playing in this tornament would have been at the right level 4 him. Rory didnt play in it because he was a TOP player, as for his defence he could and did tackle when it was required unlike Offiah who just lunged at players and most of the time missed.

  • Paul you've miss read me again.

Offiah was a fringe player that's the point I was makinig he'd only just started playing RU when he was taken away. So that's why you can't say he wouldn't have made it in Union because trust me my friend he wouldn't have been a fringe player for very long.

TOP players DO play in 7's tournaments too.

  • which top players play in 7's. Offiah played union at colts level but wasnt good enough to go up the next level his defence let him down big time. I havent miss read you He just wasnt good enough to make to the 1st team. He had pace no dought about that but like Ive said before thats all he had to offer.

  • Bollocks

  • now thats a sensible reply. Never mind you'll be back to school Wednesday. If he was so good why did he only get into the 7's side and not the 1st team? If he was that good he would have been more than a fringe player. and you still havent said which top players play 7's.

  • It may be a childish reply, but I've lost patience with you. You haven't got a clue. About Rugby League or Kick & Clap (UNION).

Looking through all comments about this video I don't see many that agree with your original statement.

So just swallow your pride & admit your wrong.

    Like a real man would..

  • Ita all about opinions, mine is different to most that have been on here I admit that, but I wont say that Offiah is better than Underwood because I dont beleve that (which is what my original post is). I will say this How many video's are on here there of Martin tackerling?

  • @paulhalfpint Underwood LOL. Get lost mate seriously.

  • @djgibson06 yes Underwood the player that is Englands top try scorer and he could also tackle, unlike Offiah.

  • I'd just like to put this argument to bed about the 2 codes.

World war two League against Union League beats Union playing Union.

    Middlesex sevens Wigan win it.

Middlesex sevens Bradford have Jeremy Gusscott begging for mercy in the commentary box after he said a League would never win this tournament again.

Men against boys when Bradford pasted all before them.

  • there was a cross code game between bath and wigan in the late 80's too - they won their "own" game, but i seem to remember that the league boys won by a much bigger margin than the union

Of course, at that time there was no question that league was far better than union in terms of athleticism and skill purely because it was professional v amateur at the time

  • rory underwood is a legend, he was excellent. Offiah was even better, magical, would've been immense if he had played for england in union. Jason robinson is better than both of them though. Union and League are both great sports with great players.

  • that paul alf pints oviusly a wanka so theres no point in arguin wiv sum1 hu dunt av a clue. jus a prik

  • so, if Martin Offiah was called say Tristan Smithers-Bowles and was lets say, white, he would have played for England RU. end of. To say he was just speed is plain crazy and obviously you haven't watched the film this pointless discussion is about.

  • OK I'll just guess what you are on about.

Where did i say that Union is tougher than League? In Union the forwards if it harder(pysically) because you have to run for the full 80 mins to be at every breakdown but the tackles are to keep you on your feet so you can turn the player to your own forwards and force a turnover, in League they put you on the deck good and hard but you dont play for the full 80 I know what I'm talking about.

  • You lost your entire argument when you stated that union forwards run for the entire 80 minutes. You are what is known as a troll.

  • so tell me this, Who is first to the breakdown in Union?

  • can you please put that in English as i dont have a clue what you are on about. Sorry but that last bit just dosnt make sence to me.

i no about croquet then do it????

  • I did play but only at Junior level and had an injury at 13 that forced me retire, but that has nothing to do with it. Juat because I didnt play at top level dosnt mean I dont know what I am talking about, and as you put half the world disagree with me... that means half also agree with me too do the maths.. I have 50% of the world that think Im right. Steve from Sky Sports was one of the best Hookers in his timew but that dosnt stop him from talking rubbish.

  • How far back do you want to go? Trevor Foster for the old fans (Before my time too) David Watkins, Johnathon Davis, Dave Treshure, Alan Tait

  • You still can't back anything up with hard facts and you really are showing your true ignorance with your biggoted flat cap and whippet attitude... Sure we lured plenty of your sportsmen in the 80s and early 90s but why so bitter? Because you are a sad man that's why!

  • you dont read what people put do you? I am a League fan and if the truth be known I am form Bradford a good whippet and flat cap part of the UK. I am not bitter i am glad we got Trevor Foster. I just speak from the heart and say what I see. We would have also got another great Union player but he dislocated his shoulder in his 1st game and it was weak and kept popping out, pity he would have been a world beater.

  • A league fan? You sir are mendacity personified.

Underwood could only beat Offiah if he were in his jet.

Offiah is black and did not, as far as I know, attend public school. Case closed.

  • No its a M62 game if that means working class then so be it, and before you say anything how many sides play outside the M62 coridor in SL? 2 thats it, and there would be less if some fans had there way. They sulk about Catalan been in SL instead of Widnes and also harp on about how Quins get special tretmant.

  • How many players did League take from Union? A lot more than have gone to Union, and yes the difference with New Zealand is there is only 1 Full Time Professional side in League where as Union has its own league.

  • He may have been a Union fag but he still kept Offiah out of the game.

  • Offiah was/is a black man. THAT is what kept him out of the game.

Underwood would never have beaten Offiah, even if he was in his jet! LOL!

  • His colour had nothing to do with how good you are in Englind that was South Africa. Offiah wasnt good enough for Union and HE prooved that in 1987 when he played for the Barbars and was crap He scored 1 try but bad defence lad to Cardiff scoring 3 Funnly enough it was Gerald Cordel(who later signed for Bradford Bulls) that kept Offiah out of the game and made him look like a muppet.

  • Not good enough what do mean, couldn't he kick & clap the rest of the Union knobs 'N' toffs.

Union is a tarts game for people with pockets in their shorts for their hankies. Not good enough my arse.

Widnes picked him up when he was a young emerging player of 20 years old. So how can you say he wasn't good enough for Union when he was only just starting out.

He went back to Union when he was past it for easy money..

  • Just watched it again and there is only 4 where he used a step to beat someone and on 3 of those you dont see him score, 1 was hom collecting a forward pass(what skill he had there). I was right he had nothing but pace and thats where my origonal post comes in Underwood was a better player than him

  • because he had nothing to prove, he knew he was quicker, as did everyone else in the game.

  • Why make the statement then? Rory just took him up on his offer, but no Offiah bottled it. Rory knew he could beat him because he did many times on the Rugby field

  • ZZZZZzzzzzzzz. Offiah came to League to play a professional sport with professional sportsmen. League developed Offiah in ways that Yawnion never could and because of it, he became one of the greatest wingers of all time.

Modern Yawnion owes a lot to Rugby League. You've adopted our professionalism, you've taken our coaches the national team has even trained with Super League's elite in preparation for major competition!

Would you like some sugar with those grapes?

  • I think you need to get your facts right before you make a comment, league fans are crying because union are taking your players. What about before Union turned pro? League was taking Union players from all over (Thats how they got Offiah) every position was taken from the Welsh side and it made then from one of the Worlds best to nobodys and they are only just now getting back on track. Union owes League you are having a laugh.

  • Oh I know my facts you Yawnion tart.

    Phil Larder.

    Shaun Edwards.

    Joe Lydon.

3 Rugby League greats who have offered their services to the improvement of Yawnion due to the benefit of it adopting Rugby League tactics.

Andy Farrell?! Pah! You are welcome to him! His best days are behind him, as was fully evidenced by his farcical first 18 months in Yawnion spent on the sidelines crocked, even then you play the man completely out of position!!!

  • So where would you play Farrell? Suddenly Farrell is passed it but when he signed for Union the RFL was crying WHO will will be the next GB captain? Oh yes thats it Sculthorpe the over rated sly high shots Sculthorpe (He wouldnt make it in Union cos he would get a clout and you wont see him for the rest of the game)

  • In such a great team anyway he didn't need to be the best defensively. Dougie knew how to get the best from him, something Yawnion could not do because it's a game of kick and clap, as opposed to flair filled running attack.

  • The fact that you begin each response with "You really don't know what you are talking about" and big up Yawnion without actually backing it up with any facts shows your lack of knowledge.. As a supposed fan of league, you're a disgrace.

  • Why am i a disgrace? Because i speak the truth? It is people like you that are a disgrace you cant even call the sport by it's right name, childish and gives TURE RL fans a bad name. As for been in such a great team would that be the ONLY full time Pro side against part timers? Even Mark Calderwood wood look good in a side like that.

  • paulhalfpint does not speak the truth and is a disgrace to the game, you represent one negative side of RL and present it like it is globally accepted opinion, when really you are nothing more than a whinging negative pansy.

  • and resulting to insults proves what???

  • Lesley Vianikolo. Another RL great who is past his best, moving to Yawnion to top up his pension...

Who is crying? Not us. We've still got a pool of world class RL players still loyal to the game. At least we don't look to over the hill Yawnion players to pull of miracles for the national team!!!

And for your information England RU trained with Leeds Rhinos in 2005 in preparation for the 6 nations!!!

  • Your argument smacks of bitterness and desparation. In fact this whole video has absolutely zip to do with Yawnion, so rather than pouring your misery over this thread, let those that can appreciate true Rugby League talent get on with marvelling at this player's skill and get back to quaffing your Pimms and prawn butties while watching another boring 80 minutes of kick and clap!

  • You realy dont know what you are talking about do you?

Have you thought that I may be a fan of BOTH sports?

I Watch League and Union I prefor to watch League but i can face the facts that Union is the superior sport. Offiah had nothing but speed no skill or defence just pace thats why he couldnt make it in Union.

  • Sorry lad but I do know what I am talking about. You may watch both codes but have clearly played neither at any reasonable level. To say that Offiah only had pace just shows how ignorant you are. Offiah had fantastic vision, ball handling skills and brilliant footwork which could single handedly send defensive lines into complete dissary.

  • if he was so good how come he couldnt get into the England side

  • That is why Underwoon is STILL the top try scorer for England. Offiah was so good at Union he couldnt even get into the England 2nd's.

  • No way was underwood faster

  • Why when Offiah said he would run against any other sportsman he DIDNT take up Underwoods offer?

  • Why did he go to League? Because he couldnt get into the England team, Rory Underwood use to hammer him everytime they played Faster, stronger and a better defender

  • OH MY GOD.
