  • Michael Hayes was always such a great promo.

  • God I hate Tony Schavonie so much.

  • my mom had her hair like this back in the 80's

  • Michael "PS" Hayes,Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy(RIP) and Buddy Roberts = FREEBIRD FANTASIA!

  • I love Michael Hayes's goofy promos so much.

  • @scabberson Hayes was one of the greatest talkers ever on the mic. Flair, Dusty, Piper, Hayes, Brody were all great on the mic.

  • i miss the 80s wrestling. wrestling is so boring now

  • Freebirds where epic back in the day. Hell they even where in the beginning of the first Highlander movie.

  • REAL Tag Teams =

    Freebirds

    Road Warriors

    Outsiders

  • Trailer Trash, Redneck, Micheal PS Hayes. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Man can the classic wrestlers do a promo.... Not the crap coming out of the WWE these days!

  • I FUCKIN HATE THAT WWE LOGO!

  • david crockett was in the relm of "shittiest announcers" along with david mercer (world class) and tony schiavone

  • @Vizzoid disagree with you on Schiavone. I liked him. I think he should still be announcing. He'd be better than Cole or Tenay.

  • @Vizzoid Bill Mercer?

  • I wish there is a new golden era of wrestling in the future, very unlikely, with the crap soap opera, sports entertainment shit, we get from WWE and TNA

  • @HandsomeMs1 I think one of wrasslins biggest problems is that now days you can turn on tv and watch a real fight. After you watch mma its really hard to watch pro wrestling. Add that fact in with the shit product wwe and tna are putting out the lame wrestlers out there today and your god damn right cm punk is on that list too and the short attention span feuds and there is just no reason to watch it.

  • @xxspliffsmokexx Actually, after Brock Lesnar went into MMA, A LOT of people stopped taking it that seriously. Pro wrestling is entertainment, for certain, and not a good product now compared to back then... but some people actually want to know the Wrestlers. There are several guys who are wrestlers who also participated in MMA (Alberto Del Rio for one), and they have egos that make you hate them almost on sight... and trust me, they are not all that either.

  • Hayes could have been a world champion. I wonder why it didnt come to fruition

  • @v1per187

I have heard it from someone that he was supposed to be in Hogan's place though he messed it up. Hayes definitely had the ability to draw people as a World Champion.

  • Buh-Buh-Buh-Bad to the Bone

  • Michael hayes wasnt the best athlete but he had the best mic skills

  • where is little richard marley, mike sure liked to put his hands on him and down in his you know what

  • awesome promo!

  • Hayes should teach a class on promos and I'm 20 and I know this

  • @sexyangelstarr Holy shit! You're only 20 and you know that? God damn, you're a fucking trailer park Einstein.

  • @GohModley A trailer park Einstein? Did you come up with that all by yourself? You must be proud hahahahaha

  • @sexyangelstarr I did come up with it all by myself ucz I'z an apartment complex Einstein.

  • @GohModley You should be proud. Perhaps you come from where the Freebirds come from.

  • Just a different generation of talkers.

  • I never liked this racist bastard

  • you know, I never agreed that people calling Hayes a racist, I actually think its more due to him living in the South and the fact I actually believe that Hayes thinks he's black, I think Booker T even believes in that as well as mentioned that in an interview

  • @ShootStyleZombie I also see it as Hayes liking his drink and like some people who like to drink...you can't control what you say...or don't even realize what your saying.

  • Nothin like a southern man talkin the working man's rap to kill multiple brain cells in the listener.

  • Hayes had mad game on promos, loved this stuff...

  • @bruiserdrop, that shit they put out today is exactly that...pure shit. Back in the day you had this little thing called territories.

  • @universalmanchild It's a shame that no longer exists.Much better when you had big title match's from different wrestling circuits meeting up.

  • I never got to see much of the Freebirds back in the day but that was a hell of a good promo there.... classic, Micheal Hayes could cut one hell of a promo.

  • I remember this ringside interview. I was watching it live on an edition of WCW on a Saturday afternoon. I believe this was leading up to Hayes' one-on-one matchup with Flair eventually down the road. Fantastic memories!

  • Freebirds = WWE Hall of Fame 2011

  • Micheal was one the top 5 wrestlers of ALLTIME of on the stick!

  • Is it just me or does Hayes remind anyone of DDP in this interview?.. Did DDP look up to Hayes??

  • @ColorsBright back in 1991 DDP manage The Freebirds

  • Hey its Mr. Moussssetache ... no wait... its the YETTTT TAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

  • THIS IS WRESTLING! Not that crap WWE or TNA shoves down our throats.

  • @TheMadStork83 No wrestling promotion shoves anything down anyones throat. You act as if you not watching would kill you. You make the choice to tune in. Just quit watching and quit bitching. Back in the day when this footage was shot I'm sure the older people hated this stuff. But they too had the choice to not watch.

  • @BruiserDrop Sounds like you're the one bitching since I was simply making a statement :)

  • @TheMadStork83 ...Agreed!

  • Freebirds vs Horsemen great money maker 2 bad NWA didn't do it

  • Micheal was one of the all-time greatest o the stick.

  • "Hey Michael, the cue card may be over there but the camera is over here"

  • Back when men were men.

  • @danteras23 Back when Hair was Hair

  • This is one of my favorite Michael Hayes interviews.

  • lol at michael hayse

  • Are you for real. Hayed was never in flairs league. hayes couldn't draw flies to a pile of cow shit.

  • @RogPnn - Hayes was a very good draw. Huge draw in WCCW. Take a look at the attendance #'s. Good draw in FLA as well. Really one of the more underappreciated wrestlers IMO.

  • What started the big draw for the freebords vs Von Erichs was the Ric Flair cage match.

  • LOLOLOL I agree...

  • @RogPnn I agree.. Hayes isn't in Flair's league, even Hayes would agree with that - but what everyone knows is that Hayes drew money in his day.. he made a mint with the Von Erics based on the fact that he was a great talker and a genius when it came to wrestling storylines and techniques - he was the guy who started to use rock music as entrance music !!

  • Wrestling was a lot more fun back when it seemed so real.

  • Dear Vince Russo and Stephanie McMahon

This is how you have promos that make people want to see your product.

  • Thanks tmg138 for posting this clip.

Do you by chance have video of when Michael Hayes in his WCCW days disguised as Santa Claus?

  • wasn't Michael Hayes in 'Cats'?

  • I always enjoyed the commentary of Tony Servonte and David Crockett. I always thought they were very convincing. I loved it when Crockett said, "Did you see the look on his face?" Of all the wrestling promotions, I think that Crockett put together the best product.

  • It's bullshit of Crockett not letting WCW's

original host GORDON SOLIE to still host

    it.He hosted STARRCADE '83,'84 and

BASH'85 and that's his thanks! Dam it

the Crocketts are no better than vince jr.

  • Gordon was still working Florida and they probably wanted to use their own guys. But they brought Gordon back as soon as Florida died.

  • jews

  • wheres Terry Gordy . The other freebird thats a bad ass brawler in WCW or NWA

  • He died back in 2001.

  • this was when they got back on tbs after black Saturday

  • WOW it was Doc Hendrix

  • Yes, that's him.

  • this was the only time I seen someone give it to flair better than he gave it to them.

  • Flair was pissed!!!

  • he cut the best promos ever

  • I never liked the free birds that much but some of their matches were great to watch. The hype and spiel was done very well. Not to mention that if it were not for the free birds in their more creative days making a band and doing their own music as well and tributes for their entrances and then for the vast majority using recordings of such.... there would be no vast plethora of "intros" out there in the biz today. May perhaps there would be no intros at all. We own them that respect.

  • look at Flair

  • How are HBK & Flair racist?

  • racist??? LOL

  • you know its widely known that hayes is one of the biggest racist in the business!

  • That reputation came from some comments while he was drunk (his REAL problem) and Mark Henry complained to the higher ups.

  • right.....i have worked with hayes on several occasions...and let me tell you some of the kids and most of the parents got the real deal from hayes.....not to say he doesn't have a drinking problem cause i have seen that dude go on a bottle but the dude is a clean cut racist!!...and trust me mark is not the only colored person to complain about this!

  • POSER

  • You are as full shit as can be Flair a racist you are wrong.

  • Mark Henry is lucky to even have a job with the WWE. The guy has been on the roster for over a decade now & he has never, ever gotten over or been able to have a decent series of matches.

  • this took place just after they left WWF, this interview took place on 4/6/85. I just saw a WWF interview they did on youtube...that took place on 9/13/84.

  • If this was from April of 1985 then it wasn't after they left the WWF.

Hayes and Gordy were down in Memphis before this, they did and angle where Lawler accidently burned Hayes which led to a wild street fight tag match between Lawler & Austin Idol vs Hayes and Gordy.

If I remember correctly that happened in March of 1985.

  • Intense and well presented--great interview! ty for posting

  • WHAT A TASH!

  • Hyaes looks like Paul Levesque.

  • The man cut a good promo. Too bad he couldn't cut that hideous mullet.

  • But that mullet was the shit back in 1982 lol

  • Honestly i don't think that's a mullet because it isn't shaved on the sides, he's got it all long. I think a mullet is when it's short on top and on the sides but long only in the back.

  • Whoa! Great promo

  • when listing all the great tag teams in wrestling history..the Nasty Boyz have to be one of them!

  • No...they dont...

  • Like Stone Cold would say........What?

  • no, The British Bulldogs would be though.

  • Hahahaha! Finally, someone who knows what the real definition of what a "nature boy" is...someone who runs naked through the woods. Great promo!!

  • Damn! I would love to see that! *whistle, whistle* WOW! :D

  • ps hayes will alwys be the better man compared to that wiesel sic ric

  • who knew he would become such a asshole

  • Fabulous Freebirds DVD? Why not since WWE home video released a DVD on both the Horsemen and the Road Warriors.

  • Im from the old school. Todays wrestlers sucks sooooo baaaaaaad. Back then they had character, Orginality and raw skills. Not to take nothing from all of todays wrestlers but most of them pretty much act the same.

  • the Freebirds were a great team and Michael Hayes Promos were some of the best in the business, They difinatly did Not fit the WWF mold back in 1984 when they had their very brief run.

  • Yeah Mike, that fuckin' hair is b-b-b-b-b-bad to the PERM!!

    WTF??? Is that?

  • so many wrestlers are so stiff ans sound like zombies,,from now to back then,,micheal hayes and ric flair were 2 of the best wrestlers to work the mic

  • This jerk recently told Mark Henry that he is more of a "nigger" than he is. I just lost alot of respect for him. He is a pioneer and I respected him for that, but now I lost a ton of respect for him

  • lmao he said the nature boy run naked through the woods

  • Those were great teams, but NO ONE can deny just how Over the freebirds were. It's just such a shame no one cuts promos like this anymore.

  • The Heart Foundation are pretty overrated in retrospect. Bulldogs were much better.

And the Birds were the Birds. What Hayes lacked in mat skill he more than made up for in ring psychology and charisma. And questioning Gordy's ability as a performer is just plain foolish.

On the other hand, Hayes is a racist.

  • You make a excellent point later on in your comment. Hayes was a master ring spychologist for a young guy.. but if the hart foundation was overated then explain why they won most of theyre stints with the rockers nevermind bret harts 5 world title reigns...Also Mcmahon gave them the ball over a veteran team like volkoff and sheik in Feb 1987 to take out the bulldogs to begin with

  • Winning matches and titles doesn't mean much since, you know, Wrestling is fake.

I'm not saying they were a bad team, but I think Bret's singles career makes the Foundation look better in retrospect.

Personally, I thought teams like the Rougeaus and Bulldogs had better matches against the same teams.

  • Rougeaus in my estimation may have been the best pure team to never win the title... doesnt make any sense cause they had sheer charisma

  • I agree, but I will not win any support with the next comment. In my opinion, Hart's single's career is very overated, too. Not trying to start a war, just my opinion. the early-mid '90's maybe the cheesiest era of wrestling, but probably not more dull than the last 5 years or so.

  • 92 until the middle of 95 was pretty bad...i think hart, deisel, and razor held down the fort till shawn came in and got his push

  • @timg138 im with cha dude i lost a lotta respect for Hayes when i heard the comments he made about well you know and he was an overrated wrestler. Gordy and Roberts picked up the slack while he talked all day

  • The Freebirds were awesome. Bam Bam was the greatest natural athlete going, his punches were classic, lock, load, and hammer away. Michael Hayes' spring over the corner rope, prance across the ring and up on the ropes only to be astonished that the crowd wasn't in love with him....all to either Freebird or badstreet...it just don't get any better.

  • how true brother ... how true

  • God, how great would've been for a 4 Horsemen and Fabulous Freebirds feud would've been

  • Whos the idiot making fun of Hayes and The Freebirds? One of the greatest fn teams ever.

  • I meant should not be talking smack.

  • You guys should be talking smack about either one of these guys. Flair is the man but, Hayes was great in his time. The Freebrds and Von Erichs fued was one of the best ever. What made it so great was how rotten the Freebirds were. You could only wish to have guys as good as Hayes was. One thing is for sure, no one will ever even come close to Flair.

  • I wish JCP and World Class worked together to bring the Von Erichs and the other 2 Freebirds to WCW. I assume Fritz didn't want his boys leaving Dallas for a long time. What a shame it didn't happen. A lot of the old school promoters like Fritz, and Don Owen started not to trust Crockett because of his own national push to disolve the territories. Hayes and Tommy Rich were instantly gone after this segment, and Crockett became his own "NWA".

  • World Championship Mullets.

I believe the Freebirds originated from Bad Haircut Street, U.S.A.

  • pppfffy Hayes couldn't wear Flair's jock strap. b..b..b..bad to the bone my ass. Where you know Hayes? huh? thats right. Thats what I thought.

  • he's kicking back relaxing jack ass the nature bitch still has to work cause he aint got no retirement asswipe enough said

  • hayes is the best, you dont know shit. he did the best interviews and he was the "david lee roth" of wrestling. and chics were all over him for a reason.

  • He's booking Smackdown.

  • hell thorneosgard you are 100 percent correct..you said exactly what i started to say..i gave you a thumbs up..good job!!!

  • Tony shiavoni and David crockett suck balls !

  • some choice words

    yeah right

  • Ron Garvin was a good wrestler but he did'nt have much of a persona.

  • but he had a right hand!

  • I thought Hayes would have been a more believable champion then Garvin. If you remember, the gimmick that they used was have Ric Flair wrestle a different wrestler every day for 30 days - and Ron Garvin fought and defeated Flair on the 30th day. Other then have a good right hand (cause he had some amateur boxing exp) Garvin was very forgettable.

  • I recently read that Garvin wasn't the 1st choice to win the title from Flair. It was offered to a few others who turned it down, because it was already known that the title change was going to be a temporary one. Starcade 87 was going to be JCP's 1st ppv and Crocket wanted Flair to win back the title there. Garvin being 42 at the time realized that this might be his only chance to win the belt, so he accepted.

  • Garvin disputes that and it doesn't make sense. His feud with Flair came directly out of Flair's feud with his brother that summer.

  • It doesn't make sense to me either. At the time the NWA belt was considered the top title in the industry, you would think that anyone would want it. Even for a short time.

  • The freebirds were awesome for two reasons 1) they had charisma and also because they were apart of wrestling when it was exciting!!!!

  • Hayes wasn't around very long WCW after this segment. He worked a match at the Omni against Flair and he went back to Texas and the AWA.

  • I think puttin gthe title on Windham, would've been better then having Garvin have the title. Freebirds and Horsemen would've been a good feud, but they never had it on any big cards, which kinda sucked! WWF has and always will suck, it's to bad they're the only show in town. Whenever Flair retires I'm done watching. I have so much classic wrestling that, that's what I enjoy watching, the glory days, as oppsed to the shit they offer now!

  • Do you have the match, that they were just showing with Flair in the ring. JCP was way better then WWF, but they didin't know how to market their stuff, subsequently that led to no money, in 87 when the Nwa was having their annual Starrcade, WWF held the survivor series so they made fans choose which one. That killed Jcp

  • Actually, it was even worse- McMahon told PPV companies that if they carried Starrcade, they couldn't carry the Survivor Series OR the next Wrestlemania, which at the time was a huge moneymaker. It was dirty, but then the 1st Clash of the Champions aired on free TV while Wrestlemania IV was on PPV, killing the PPV numbers for McMahon.

  • Yeah your right.

  • there was NEVER a time in the 80's where wwf was putting on better tv than jcp,so you can go kiss a bull's ass with that

  • i agree hayes could've carried the nwa world title no doubt.i remember one promo where ric flair called hayes"the poor man's ric flair". flair is funny as hell. but don't sleep on ron garvin,he was the man. the birds and the horsemen did have a couple matches but you could tell that crockett was favorimg the horsemen. soon after that bam bam & buddy left and it was just hayes who started teaming with jimmy garvin.

  • Hayes looks rough in this promo. Nobody in their right mind would really think Hayes was NWA champion material. He was a mid carder outside of Texas.

  • I couldn't disagree with you more. I think Hayes would have been a much better choice to hotshot the title to than Ron Garvin. Of course, I've been saying this forever. His promos, at the time, were top notch. Sure it was a lot of rhyming and jive talking, but it got over well. Besides that, he could wrestle a good match, even outside tag compition.

  • And don't discredit World Class. When the Freebirds were fueding with the Von Erichs, World Class was putting on better television than WWF or JCP. My opinion, of course.

  • World class was good better than wwf but not as good as JCP 1986.

  • Huh, what? I love World Class, I love JCP, and I love WWF Circa 1986;but how can you say Michael Hayes wouldn't make a believable Champion outside of Texas in one post, and then say World Class was better then WWF, but not better then JCP; especially since, at the time WWF was eating JCP Lunch.

  • Wrong timeline this was 1985 Garvin was late 1987.

  • Oh, I know. I still think Hayes would have been a better choice at the time (I think he was still face then). The Garvin title run never made good sense to me.

  • I was never big on Ronny Garvin either I would have

rather seen them give Terry Gordy a run with the

belt & maybe set up a Freebird vs Four Horsemen

    fued.
