@psychobunny32 this is not tribal music, it's for the original dance SAIDI, or ARABIC FOLKORE, it's a folkloric music and dance. The real and original dance of saidi with sticks has to be danced with clothes covering your belly and you have to wear something in your head (What she is wearing on her head is ok). Ansuya its awesome costume its not proper for this dance. Look for "saidi stick dance costume" in google images.
@Mopita Wear a galabeya, for women. I had a coined Egyptian head scarf tied tightly with a black veil over it; as I had seen the beautiful fellahat wear in Misr. I hennaed my hands. A ton of black eyeliner, completed the look.
@psychobunny32 It's not a "tribal" song, although I have seen many tribal style dancers perform to it. The song, Luxor Baladna, is a Saidi style song--meaning it is a folk-style song of the saidii people in Upper Egypt. In fact Luxor is a famous city in Upper Egypt. The saidi people are also known for dancing with a stick or a cane, which is another tip off. It is common for Egyptian dancers to include a saidi number, some change into a glitzy gallabeya, but the cabaret costume is OK too.
she is putting a tatoo on her chin to look saidi,,cuz in Said women used to do so,it's like a tradition nd it's only in that part of egypt,,she is dancing to saidi music so she wanted to look like them

Bueno, con respecto al estilo danza ritmo Saidi tengo que decir que repite mucho los mismos pasos y movimientos y se olvida de muchos otros muy tradicionales que no los muestra. Mas o menos, le falta para interpretar un auténtico saidi. Jaide

oh my god the people in her class were working on it the practices got old cause i idnt participate in those ones...anywho it wasnt as good as when she doe it obviously. nice nice person, AND she doesnt have a tattoo on her chin.
mildark angel answeing to your question, saidi is a rhytm in belly dance the rhytm goes "dum, tec dum dum tec" and its generally danced with long robes which cover the body of the belly dancer. Saidi is a folkloric and traditional dance, that´s the reason of the robes and the use of a cane, hope ú find it useful XD
I think that is a fair question and I don't understand why people gave you thumbs down. Some of the Arab tribes have tattoos that distinguish them from other tribes. I would imagine that Ansuya wears them to give her performance a more Arab feel to it.
@fatdanios, Assaya is a dance from upper Egypt, to my knowledge they do not wear those tattoos. it's a little bit like wearing a Cherokee head-dress to do a dance from Inuit culture and saying that it's t"o give it a more Native American feel", there are many different cultures under the "Arab category" just as there are many cultures under the "Native American category" i hope that helps, i still love her dancing. ^_^
@EllNomad i gonna check hold on .....ok i found Berber women tattoo their chin to prevent evil spirits from entering the nose and mouth so its a tribal custom and appearance ,so ansuya wear it to look more fit for a tribal role in dance
Jaide
About comments on the beat; she IS on the beat. The best Egyptian dancers, for example, will "feel" the beat differently than a Westerner, for whom it will feel slow or off-beat. That is actually more authentic. Her expressions are lovely, I agree. Good dancing. Very enjoyable.
YouTube streams the music and the visuals separately, so often clips appear out of synch, often depending upon your connection. So, you can't make any judgments on the timing w/o seeing the original DVD.

I agree with below, totally not on beat and fair dancing but she's a major star and a teacher? Becoming a belly dancer is almost as ridiculous as owning a horse but we girls just love being insane. Must be nice to be the few who get the real chance even for those who clearly don't deserve the notoriety. Not many of us out there looking to own any horses anytime soon.
I'm seeing all kinds of ideas here about this dance! I was taught that this was performed with men dancing with their horses! My instructor went to Egypt to take dance lessons there many years ago. I could be mistaken, but I don't think so...(I'm sure that someone will let me know! lol!)

@EllNomad
It has to be makeup---a mock tattoo. Which in Northern Africa shows to which tribe you belong. It is NOT
black henna which is highly toxic to the skin. Regular reddish henna is fine, but use it on your hands or feet only.

Her eye contact and expressions are fantastic!
Yes, she deserves every bit of her fame and notoriety. She's danced all her life, and worked very hard to be as wonderful at it as she is.
