Love the blue ghillies, and the footwork is lovely! So what's with all the hating? Highland Dance is one of the oldest formalized traditions in Scotland that, and you don't have to be a stick to perform it! And if you want to have the "pub" experience just find an Robbie Burns Celebration not classified as a "formal affair" and you'll have all you like.
What?? This looks like a theme park show for the fat tourists with their screaming kids and video cameras. When I go to Scotland, I want to venture from the beaten path and experience the REAL culture. I want to hike through the freezing Highlands. I want to find a 350-year-old pub in Inverness and drink & sing with the SCOTS. I want to see the Loch Ness Monster. I want to run away with and marry a young blue-eyed Scottish lass named Fiona. I want to learn Gaidhlig and the pipes!!
@quirpco God, you've been watching too many Brigadoon type films. I can assure you as a "real" Scot, that there is more to our country than the tacky shortbread tin image that tourists like. By all means visit the Highlands and Islands which are indeed beautiful but there is far more to Scotland than heather, haggis and "bonny Morag"! :)
@Scotsbell I sincerely apologize, I didn't mean to offend. That was just my very dry sense of humor talking (or typing?). I'm quite sure there is FAR more wonderfulness to Scotland that what I've protrayed in my comment, and I very much look forward to experiencing it once my bank account allows me to make the journey. :) God Bless!
@quirpco No offence taken but it would surprise you to hear that there are many tourists who come to Scotland and are disappointed that we don't all live in crofts, wear kilts all the time or have red hair!! I hope that you do manage to come to visit Scotland and see the real thing :)
@Scotsbell ! I have had the marvelous opportunity to visit Scotland [and 14 other countries]. Scotland is a beautiful country; I wish greatly that I could return and remain in Scottland. There, I felt like I was home. My spirit yearns for it; there is no more beautiful land in this world; strong, witty and humourous people.. likewise for every nation, there is the good, the bad, and the ugly ;) but i would take it all for the rest of my days spent in Scotland.
By all means come to Scotland - you'll love it - but don't feel any pressure to pay money to see this insipid military tattoo crap.

Short but nice piece of the Scottish dance.
Gentle movements and natural ladies, I mean
not selected anorectics, makes it pleasant to watch.
