@lpcustom57 Yes, ia m aware that the oriiginal was written for Alexandria, but both Connie and Doon stated that the English words were written for Connie and Don sent them to Connie in the 70s when she was not singing.
@Shrinksjp - I am a fan of both these ladies. I grew up listening to Connie Francis, and had the pleasure of seeing her in concert a few years ago. Both Connie and Shirley have sung many of the same genre of songs over the years. It's unfortunate that Francis has had vocal difficulties over the last decade or so, but she still puts on a great concert!
@Shrinksjp I don't think so! It was written by Udo Jürgens and translated for Matt Monro by Don Black - who was Matt Monro's manager! He translated a few songs at Matt's request - Walk Away was the first - then Softly and this one - another one too but that escapes me! - Connie Francis indeed!
I stand corrected aboutthe Softly one - that was Itallian! the Udo Song was "For Mama"

Dame Shirley is such a wonderful and a talented singer.. She puts all her heart and soul in every song she sang. That I call magic !!
