She's adorable and sweet, her voice is deep and calming, and she always sings songs with meaning, not shit like "give it to me baby, let's go and drink alZ and have fun in bed"
oh my god this version is much more up tempo than my version on the album!! i think i do prefer the other one but this is really nice. shes just so amazing isnt she? what a breath of fresh air xx
people sing about white skin all the time what the heck do you think peaches and cream means. she's not saying white skin is bad or anything remotely similar to that train of thought, she's just singing about what she likes. stop trying to make it what it isn't, jeez.
My favorite female singer in the industry. Beautiful, lyrically talented, apppreciated. Jah Bless her. Most inspiritonal woman that has dropped an album and did not have to subside to what america thinks is the epitome of beauty. I love it I love it.
Yess! at last an intelligent comment. Absolutely agree with you. Why are people so hung up on the whole skin colour issue, listen, I know it's a cliche but whatever happened to the rainbow nation idea? O.k so maybe that's an ideal but some of us would love to see it become a reality. And anyway this song is not about skin colour it's about emotion and warmth, I love her and I am so looking forward to the new album. Peace and love.
I agree skin isn't important in some situations but if you are incinuating that racism doesn't exist you are fooling yourself, some people do base who they interact with and allow to interact with them based on the color of their skin, is that ignorant YES but it is out there, and there is no getting around it. We can use love to counter act it but it will for ever be around lest we chose to ignore it in turn pushing us into a phase of TRUE ignorance.
protest at music that denigrates black people with the use of the N-Word.. Isnt it funny when blackness is celebrated and applauded there's someone that trots out this weak-ass argument?
the N word has no meaning if it is totally erased from our vocabulary if the actions still exist... a word can not bring down people actions do. so how about you lead by example and try to get people educated. nigga is not keeping people in poverty lack of education and opportunity is.
I think the song would suck because it would lack the same depth of artistic context. And there are plenty of white groups and artists that celebrate being white they just aren't popular. Apparently they aren't very good. Cause if they were good and there was money to be made, trust me, it would be popular.
Amen To That, Im Black n i HATE this fuking song, shes making an idiot of herself, she sings this then babbles on about i am not my hair i am not my skin? any1 else see the contradiction?... and i know if there was a song by a white artist called white skin, id be offended by that shit! i think this tune should be banned personally, its very pointless and theres no need for it... very prejudice!. i liked her im not my hair tune.. but this is sum prejudice bullshit!
it's a very good song.there i so much black on black hate songs that the world likes 2 listen 2 in rap.i like it 2.Now there is a black on blac k love song and who gonna bitch about it?someone (black)!!!u a phony
Cont'd - We live in a global society that hates and despises black skin (which is actually shades of brown). Nation upon nation is bleaching out and breeding out blackness. Ain't nothing wrong with loving brown skin in the midst of such adversity.
You have some serious issues. If you're rattled by the title of the song and didn't pay attention to the message of the song, you are inept. Indie Arie's music is uplifting and doesn't vibe on the negative. Elevate your consciousness and attune your self-awareness. Every one should appreciate the skin that they're in.
This song is a love song, where she is admiring the brown skin of her lover. There is nothing prejudice about this song. If someone sang about blue eyes or red hair, you wouldn't say their song was prejudiced, would you?
She makes the people who don't want to be black or who are not black feel comfortable with being black. for those who are not black she makes them feel black is beautiful.
Love this version, what a beautiful rythm. It seems that everything that she does is absolutely beautiful. Check out the version of brown Skin she recorded live with John Legend on Oxygen, amazing!
i love every thing that india arie does, she is a prophetess of her time. her songs touches your very soul, one cant help but relate to what she sings. i love u india!
i love this song and i was watching the vid with my friend...oh boy some poeple are so narrow minded... she was like.."the song is about brown skin i was expecting to see a guy with brown skin(light skin)"
People don't understand that brown is brown: like the crayon brown, chocolate is brown...my friend thinks that brown is light-medium complexions. I had to remind her that brown is deep colored not light. Tan and Beige is shades of brown, but it not actually brown. People are narrow minded, you just have to remind them about colors that should already know
Brown comes in all shades..caramel brown is also brown..deep chocolate brown is a deeper brown..dark brown is the deepest brown..but yeah I agree about the tan and beige..they are brown yet they aren't
Oh I get what you are saying,in terms of people. But I what I meant was standard brown is just brown. In the crayola box, brown tan and beige exist as three different crayons (maybe named something different cause crayola love to romanticize everything lol). Every standard color has its variations of intensity I know. But if I ask my mom to buy me a brown shoe, I would be upset if she brings home a tan or beige shoe. Pink is a shade of red(a light red),but its pink not red. You see what I meant?
Thanks for your comment I like her artistry, Why is it hard to find her on the latest music companies. Google Video don't have it either, and they have some old stuff. MySpace dosen't have the vid to copy for auto play or anything go figure..
well I think she's the most underrated artist I know about.. the way she sings, imagine madonna on top, compare her to India.. it's just because she isn't cheap and a copycat like all the R&B stars. :)
