Well, Bea passed originally, which is why others like Elaine Stritch auditioned for

Dorothy. Once Rue and Betty were cast, Rue called Bea and said this is going to be good. Bea said "Rue, this is Vivian and Sue Anne all over again". Rue replied " No Bea, I'm playing the slut, and Betty is playing the goody two shoes this time. That was the turning point for Bea. This is what Rue said at the Golden Girls reunion at the TV Academy 4 years ago when I was in the audience.

I was 12 years old when this show started and I have been a fan since day 1! There will never be another show like The Golden Girls. They just don't make tv like this anymore. I watch the reruns everday!

oh girls we LOVE YALL!!!!!!!!!!!! I first thought, whats up with these old ladies in a sitcom? and the day I gave it a second look (at age 22) I WAS HOOKED!!! I now own all the dvd's. All good things do come to an end but I have it to last a lifetime! GREAT SHOW! THE BEST!!! at age 29.....its still my fave!!!!

@SnowFlower323 I know!!It's because of Betty White!!She's such a nasty piece of work...short tempered and bitchy,with an over inflated ego to cap it all off (just delightful!!)!! That's why the series ended,because Bea Arthur couldn't stomach doing another season with her...she HATED Betty...and Betty thought/thinks that the series was/is a massive hit all because of HER (the ludicrous notion,which was pleasantly dispelled when The Golden Palace bombed)!!

I used to watch The Golden Girls when I was a kid. I still watch the re-runs. If You ask me, no other women could play Rose, Blance, Dorothy and Sophia, the way that Betty, Rue, Bea and Estelle did.

I found a mistake in this video, look at 0:26 it says Bea Arthur - Dorothy Petrillo, but her character was Dorothy Zbornak :) I love this show I saw the whole show from season 1 to 7, 3 times in one :)

When lifetime used to show reruns around 3-4 p.m., it added so much sunshine to my mom when I'd go over to be with her(she has a terminal disease that makes her unable to move). Now they replaced it with "Wife Swap" after Estelle died for some reason. My mom hates that show.
