i think you shouln't have stoped with singing. you sound wouderfull. i can hear you still need to emprove some tehnical things. i find it sad that someone with the song in their heart stoped singing.
You have an amazing voice, and a beautiful tone. I absolutely love this. and that dress looks lovely on you. As a singer myself, I am impressed. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Go! Go! Go! Yes! You are doing a great job! your voice is already very well trained and you have everything in you!Go on working in classical style, cause if you do , your liryc voice ,leger but with presence , has the future with no limits!
It makes me sad to think you've stopped singing. I'm a voice professor at a conservatory in the USA and I think you have a beautiful voice. Not only did you execute this difficult aria with such lovely lyrical line, your intonation was wonderful! I do hope you're studying music! Thank you for sharing your lovely voice with us.
Absolutely lovely. Great pitch almost all the way through. Your voice has a purity to it that I find very appealing, and your upward runs are particularly nice. Some of the higher notes are somewhat pinched, but it really doesn't detract much, especially considering (I'm guessing) that your voice hasn't reached full maturity at the time of this video. I don't know why you've stopped singing but I really thing you should pick it up again. Bravo! : )
Thank you for all your comments, people, really :)*
Although I never sang again, I miss it a lot and I really appreciate that you continue to like the videos my teacher Richard posted on Youtube (without my knowledge, by the way, GoBogi :p)
Slouching a bit, and hanging you head over. It can muffle some sounds and cause high notes to screech. They stand out, when the rest of the notes are on pitch and sound relatively good. Have to have good posture, and be CONFIDENT.
I do think the singer would be better served with arias at lower notes. Lots of those notes were not fine and they sounded very strange. The lower notes sounded quite excellent.
Nothing worse than those self proclaimed experts who feel compelled to write negative and hurtful comments about someone else's performance on their channel.
If you have nothing good to say, then say nothing..
It's constructive criticism - it's trying to be helpful. If the singer takes it badly and gets upset instead of using it to improve then they are just shooting themselves in the foot.
If she doesn't like it, she can keep her videos private.
How about that?
There is a lot more that is wrong with the way she sang that song, than I mentioned. Trust me when I say that I wasn't even beginning to be "mean" to the poster of the video.
Hi Ana, This is my favorite aria and you sing it beautifully. Please continue to sing. Any criticism or praise is there to make you the best singer. You just have to root out those criticism that do not have your best interest at heart. Let us know if you are still singing and continue to post your wonderful voice for us to hear.
Her tone is nice and her pitchs are correct. However it seems like shes slouched a little which may have resulted in a few flat notes and notes that were pushed out by her voice.
Aceite esta crítica se você quiser ser uma cantora! Vá a um professor que tire sua voz do nariz, logo em Armida a ressonância nasal é protuberante, mas sua voz quando não está no nariz, que são poucas as vezes ela é bonita sim.
Don't listen to the idiots. You've got the raw material which a lot of people don't have. You just need practice and good training.
You can still continue to enjoy singing and improving whether you become a world-renowned diva or not. Don't let the idiots dampen your love of singing.
PLease Ana, you´re so young, I´ve heard the comments... do never stop singing, please.
Keep singing, you have to grow so much and you have such a life to study, but your voice is really beautiful, no one can do it perfectly at 16 and, still it´s so beautiful... keep singing, please !
I think you can develop a very beautiful voice, you have a potential.I also sing this aria and I know that it is difficult especially for beginners. This is the most difficult period and you have what to develop, just believe in yourself,if you desire to be a singer, if you love music with all your heart you will be a great singer. Do you think that Callas was always singing like in her prime? no,this is a hard work and only the strongest wins. criticism just try the strength of your Desire.
Dear Ana Claudia, PLEASE don't quit your singing. You have a beautiful voice, and I love your performance. Please don't take any notice of the comments that may have put you off. They are just people's opinions, but not everyone shares the same opinion! Please keep singing. It's a sin not to deep using that lovely voice. Keep going ;o)
I'm deeply sorry if my singing caused all this repulsion to some of you... And I'm also very sorry if my looks bothered you so much, pc0sence, and by the way, I'm not preagnant yet :)*
I just wanted to inform you all that I quitted singing, and that way none of you will have to listen to me again.
Thanks richard, for trying to defend me from these people. And thanks to everybody who criticised me positively and apreciated my effort.
Be careful not to take any of this to heart Ana - you gave a great concert, everyone loved it - youtube is a place where top professionals can be casually rubbished by a variety of unqualified jokers, ranging from complete ignoramus's to spiteful adolescents to 'would be' musicians. Most of them have got no videos of their own, and could never even get close to the level which they presume to criticise. This video is the fifth most popular on my site, with nearly 20,000 views - Well done !
@richtomes I totally agree with him , and seriously don't stop singing if this is what you love , of course you have a lot of work ahead but your doing it well , start to think about quiting after years of real effort without any progress , I think its not your case so keep on the good work and just put your heart on every note , not in the opinion of people ..
Eu gosto mesmo da sua interpretacao. Continue estudando o canto por favor. Nao deixe que ninguem fale coisas loucas! Voce realmente pode cantar. Maravilhosa!
Please don't quit singing just because some idiots were terribly mean to you. I think you have some serious potential, and I'm not just saying that. You have great pitch (something many singers have trouble with), and I think your higher notes (which are always harder for me to access) sound ringy and and bright. I hope you ignore these hateful people and rethink quitting singing!! You would make a lovely lyric soprano!
@Bonestinha I was not repulsed at all. I was searching for a version of this to practice so that I could learn some of the emotions being this piece. There is no question that you have a classical voice, I just think you need help with your diction (as all singers do). It makes me sad that if you take your craft seriously that you would quit. I have had bad recitals, juries, the whole lot, but im still here and much better than I used to be. So if you love it..then work at it to be better!
Yes, indeed quite nice, but then again Oya must be between 20 + 30 years older than this student, and by the sound of it has had the benefit of a conservatory education. How did she sound at 16 I wonder ? I hope no one told her never to try again, as you did when commenting on another of Ana Claudia's videos. One thing is certain about Oya - she needs better accompanists.
You're right. I did not intend to compare the voice of a teenager with a mature soprano. When I told to Ana "never try again", I wish you take it like "never try again in that way" please. She has really a nice voice like an angel!
You have such a beautiful voice! I think you're doing great for your age, please don't push yourself too hard and only do what is natural for you, with good practice your voice will be even more beautiful over time :)
For now, maybe work on your Italian pronunciation a little more, they're not bad, but there's always room for improvement.
Sorry, but I have only just found this video and it's 7 months since you made the following comment: "Of the many uploads of this aria, two have successful vocal renditions:" You then listed the two. I have recently uploaded yet another version, Becky Jane Taylor singing in concert. I would like a comment from you, or anyone else. I think Ana Claudia Barbosa sings this very well taking her age into consideration, which we must always do.
Please do not compare her with a castrato. Maybe her voice does not exactly suit the aria, but she sing beautifully . This is my favourite aria. I wish her good luck. Thank you.
I'm sure that many schooled in the fine arts feel the same way. However we do love music, and we do appreciate quality in music, we try to serve it as best we know how, sincerely. I'm sure you do too.
Well I suppose that in the end it is a question of personal taste. Jaroussky is highly accomplished and very unusual, but in purely aesthetic terms I still question your original remark about this aria not being 'suited' to the soprano voice, although it was written for castrato. Who is to say definitively whether it is suited or not, and by what criteria ?
Enough. I am thrilled when I encounter people who comprehend and appreciate beauty, and I have found some on YouTube. I always optomistically have assumed that more people can than apparently do, which always disappoints me. If someone resists my attempts to share beauty and quality, there is little that I can do.
If you are going to spew such snobbery towards undeserving people, I suggest you learn to spell. LOL...You're seriously SUCH a douchebag. Judging from your remarks, I hardly think you are someone who can claim expertise on either beauty, or quality. Peace.
Of the many uploads of this a aria, two have sucessful vocal renditions: countertenor Jaroussky (in 2 different uploads) and a (female, I assume, along with bizarre visuals) singer who was not identified by the person submitting the upload.
richtomes, not I, was equating authenticity with excellence. And, perception, understanding, & appreciation of aesthetics is a multifactorial process dependent upon both genetic and learned skills of which people have varying levels of ability, as is rational analysis.
Dear sfkcbf !This girl is a student, she is only about 16. And singing these arias is part of a learning process. It's like asking piano students not to play Bach if they don't have Glenn Gould's talent.
I am sensitive and appreicative of anyone attempting to contribute beauty to the world; however, you miss the point. And your analogy is faulty where Gould & the student are playing the SAME kind of instrument; she is singing with the wrong instrument which cannot produce the correct sound for that aria. Presenting to the public works for which the voice is not suited is like trying to play the trumpet after practicing the violin...no matter how much training she has had.
sfkcbf, you obviously have strong feelings about authenticity, as you have made the same point about castrato to numerous other youtube singers.
However I think you might have to accept that like spoken language, instrumentation evolves, - the piano of Mozarts' day for example sounded pretty dreadful. My point - the original sound in all its detail is not necessarily the only way or even the best way to appreciate the original work with integrity.
There's a good article on the web called 'The Castrato Ascendancy'. Castrato (immasculation of boy singers) was invented in the 17th century to ensure that church and monastic choirs had a good supply of male soprano voices to take the place of the female voices it had banned.
Authenticity is a worthy consideration; however, this is not what I am addressing: it is a matter of aesthetics. Some can hear the difference, many can not. More people could choose excellence over accepted mediocrity.
You confirmed what I already surmised: that voice teachers equally are to blame. They should be selecting appropriate vocal works to study for each type of voice. Do not say "shame" to me for telling the truth; do not "slay the messenger" when you do no understand the message. My carefully considered comments are not merely intellectual exercises.
sfkcbf, you surely are aware that most of the classical singing world considers this aria and many other castrato arias to be emminently well suited to the female soprano voice ?
You are not telling the truth, sfkcbf, but merely presenting your personal preference as an ultimate truth. To tell someone (especially a kid) in captals Please DO NOT try to sing it, you don't have this and that...doesn't sound to me like a carefully considered comment. Perhaps you are not a teacher ?
I think you may be the biggest snob I've ever come across on youtube. Artistic expression is a beautiful thing. Not everyone will be technically perfect, or have the skills you deem appropriate, especially at 16. What you express artistically is far more important than how well you do it technically. It's all about feeling imho, and I think she did a great job!! Seriously, stop being such a damn snob!!Who the hell are you to be so superior anyway. : (
Excellence is a worthy consideration, but likewise that is not what I am addressing. Aesthetics are simply concepts, or mental ideas. I believe I can fully hear the difference, but where is it written that authenticism equals excellence ?
Yes, this song is a requirement when training the voice. It's part of the twenty-four italian songs and arias book, which is a tool for training. Nobody expects her to be Cecilia Bartoli at 16, but 16 is so young. She has a lot of potential. All the best things in life come with age and nurturing.

You're absolutely right. Let these kind of people keep thinking that way. It's their problem...

Thank goodness times have changed.

Authenticity is a worthy consideration; however, this is not what I am addressing: it is a matter of aesthetics. Some can hear the difference, many can not. More people could choose excellence over accepted mediocrity.

Gentlemen, all those intellectual arguments are very entertaining, but totally missing the point - these arias are part of the official program for
soprano. Students should be encouraged not discouraged in their studies. Plus, when you are 16
these kinds of comments can be a huge confidence crusher. Shame on you, sfkcbf.
