Just amazing video, qreat quality, great fight, heck decent enough movie though the plot made no sense at points and some of the fight scenes in particularly the first one between these two are highly exaggeration such as them jumping between buildings and almost gliding through the air. This fight though seemed to make an effort to stay as realistic as possible which I think is one of the main reasons why it's one of the best fight scenes and certainly the best girl fight scene for a movie ever
I love the English dubbing. What,?? Do you all understand Mandarin now?? Lanbis all of you!!!. That means cunts in Mandarin but I guess you knew that!!!
Is there anything worse than dubbing? I think everyone involved in the dubbing of films ought to be put to death in as systematically brutal and unnecessarily painful way possible.
@1albuseverus I would say Michelle Yeoh won (the one who fought with various weapons). Right in the very first move, she threw Jen off balance and got her sword right up to Jen's neck, showing she could have killed her instantly. Then, she fights with tons of different weapons, and Jen is clearly stressed out and put in tons of humiliating, stressful positions (slammed on the floor, etc) while Michelle Yeoh is always perfectly composed and in control. It ends with her sword to Jen's throat.
@SuperThalberg Agreed, Michelle Yeoh would've won entirely if Jen didn't have that particular sword. Just look at the precision and the speed that Michelle has, any person who has done kung fu or knows about it can tell you the same thing. Jen was all over the place.
@garyojlai Dude, hate to break your faith but its a movie, and neither one of the actresses is actually martial artist. Both are dancers. Michelle has more experience with action cinema though than Ziyi (thats the name of the other girl not Jen).
Also there aint a martial art called "kung fu", never was and will never be. Anyone with relatively little knowledge of Chinese MA can tell you that.
@Buuub08 Dude hate to break your attitude, but I never said that any of them have had are martial artists. I was referring to the battle scene where it is implied that Michelle's character has had much more experience in training in kung fu than Jen, and thus without the sword, Michelle would have won. Also, martial arts, in Cantonese, my native Chinese language - is kung fu, and in Mandarin - also my second Chinese language - is wu shu. Anyone who wasn't being a smart-ass can tell you that.
@garyojlai As far as the characters in the movie go - yes, correct.
Martial Arts in Cantonese isnt Kung Fu.
Kung Fu in Cantonese means the same as Kung Fu (or Gongfu in pinyin) in Madarin.
Wushu is wushu and gongfu is gongfu. Gongfu was never a martial art, but is merely a term used in reference to someone having a high skill in SOMETHING (cooking, dancing etc). Prior the 60s the term wasnt even used in MA reference. It became a part of MA popculture in the west.
Even today the term gongfu/kungfu/gungfoo is used rarely and NEVER used as a synonym for wushu or wugong in China. Might be the case in the west though.
Im not doubting your Chinese language abilities but you are quite off there if you actually meant it seriously.
@Buuub08 No, I completely understand. I've just been brought up in a culture where kung fu has often (even the family that I have in HK) has been loosely used as a reference to martial arts. I am completely aware that there are other terms for martial arts. Though you are wrong in saying that kung fu is rarely used/never used as a synonym. At the present moment, the official term for a lot of martial arts is wu shu - though there is some reference that kung fu, is still a term for martial arts.
@Buuub08 Most common example I can give you is commonly referred Shaolin Kung fu. I did gather facts before I presented this, so I don't make a fool out of myself - but many people nowadays use "kung fu" for martial arts, and rather use "kung-chok" for work. Very rarely do people say you're good at cooking by saying it's a "kung fu". So yes, you are right in one aspect, but saying it is rarely/never used is a wrong aspect. If you still don't believe me, type in "kung fu" into a search box.
@garyojlai Being from HK myself im pretty well aware of how things stand.
Kung Fu is used in the west a lot, and it might even be the primary (although generally incorrect) term used for Chinese MA. It started with a 60s TV show and HK movies that popularized the term. What i meant with it being rarely used is that its rarely used in China, specifically the mainland. Shaolin kung fu also a very westernized term, the monks themselves use wugong for their martial arts.
@Buuub08 That's great, then I'm sure you would've heard it "incorrectly" used over and over again. And yeah, well I've never really been to China - and from what I understand, doesn't the Chinese government officially recognise wu shu as a sport rather than a martial arts - because i know that's what confuses some people who are western over here.
Anyway, I tend to refer it as kung fu simply because that's the term I was brought up with and it's commonly accepted wherever I go.
@garyojlai Yep ive heard it, and it pisses me off most of the time that Chinese used misinterpreted westernized terms for core elements of their ancient culture.
Wushu is both a sport and a martial art. The sporting part, in its present form, appeared in the late Ming dynasty, if i recall correctly. Full contact MA were banned in late 30s i believe after numerous deaths in Leitai competitions, the ban was lifted about 20 years ago though, now China has its own MMA league.
@1albuseverus The little jab at the end was a cheap cheating move on Jen's part, and afterwards Michelle Yeoh remarks that she just didn't have the heart to kill Jen, showing she easily could have, had she chosen to do so.
@Xavier34111 in order: broadsword which became dual broadswords, spear, hookswords, some kind of double voulge (i doubt that that's the correct name), club, and lastly a two handed longsword
Michelle Yoeh and Zhang Ziyi need to be in every movie, together, ever made. They're just pure magic on screen. They can play ruthless enemies (Crouching Tiger) or awesome friends (Memoirs/Geisha), and it works.
@anddudewaslike In the special features Ang Lee mentions he liked the idea of her sword splitting in half to have two sword, so I think it's supposed to have been built for her to do that, if that makes sense.
wrong.. u talk about opinion i talk about facts.. u cant have an opinion on something u dont understand - thats a fact as much as if u think u do - u are a dumbass
@St3nic3 How the heck is you calling me names a fact when you don't even know me? I don't care what you think about the movie. I watched this movie with twelve other people and we all agreed that it sucked. Why is my opinion annoying you so much? Why don't you just go act like an idiot in front of someone else and leave me alone.
