  • you used Ron from harry potter in the first movie

  • heeheehee I heard Ron Weasley in there *shot*

  • He certainly doesn't look like a serial killer.

  • @lilcolaparrr

I'm new 2 Maya, but I think that the only export method is photos. From there I would import into something like adobe ae as a frame by frame sequence. Hope that explains :)

  • how did you upload the video i ask that because i know that maya only formats to pictures and no avi files?

  • Hi, how I can render or export the Maya animation to avi file? Thanks

  • whats the best way to learn 3d animation??? do you create the walk cycles from memory alone??

  • I am in my first year of university and I'm studying Digital Animation. I will be on completion putting all my animations onto Youtube. Even though I only have Animation created on Maya so far there are more coming.

I would really appreciate if people would subscribe to my channel or even just give me some constructive comments about them so i am able to enhance my skills.

  • how many people worked on this and how long did it take?

  • is it free

  • Your walking cycles are really good. I'm taking an Animation class this year. (sophomore in high school) & right now I'm doing a huge animation clip of a pop-tart walking (Maya 8,5). Not as easy as it looks! Do you have any tips or anything?

  • nice job - though i would of liked to seen it rendered. What software did you use? (just kidding...)

  • What is the name of the first song in this marvelous video?

  • hey, i have got a animation made in maya.. but how do i get it in movie maker or premiere ?

  • hi , is it possible to learn Maya through you tube and reading maya tutorial e book . plz help

  • It's not bad i am planning to start college next year in january 2011 i am starting in miami dade and i heard that it was a four year course plus i heard MAYA was one of the programs that i would learn but crap this looks good no doubt that i am gonna need to brush up on my math skills plus get a better job other than the crappy job i had before!!!

  • I remember generi guy. I have made some progress since then too.

  • 0:27 rofl ;DD Killed! its more freak than scared :D

  • Nice mechanics!

  • lol 0:27

  • I see you having a lot of potential. Keep it up! The walks could use a bit more overlapping though. Did the blue guy have IK?

and lol @ people thinking this is facial mo-cap.

  • @SupportAlexJones if you take theclasses that use these in yes ..otherwise no not free . Maya 2011 is 3,000 US dollars.

  • overall, animation looks little stiff, and light, but otherwise, nice work. :)

  • i think scared is supposed to be drunk lol O_O

  • You have skills!

  • @G4M3R247 "animations in maya 7.0" :)

  • sweet im taking a 3d modeling & animation class in high school next year because we are a technology based school and they teach maya so do you think i will be able to produce something like this at the end of the year?

  • Scared Run? XD It looks like he running after a hot chick

  • nice! i might have a look at this software, is it complicated?

  • OH YEA!

  • HA Scared Run!

  • Excellent, some natural talent here without a doubt, I've just started learning Maya and this sort of quality seems a million miles away.

  • Yes I know how that works, but now I know that you really did animate the face all by yourself (with blendshapes). Instead of mocap (motion capture).

Great work! I dont understand blendshapes all that well yet, but Im working on it xD

    Cheers!

  • Omg the animations are SO good. How did you animate the faces? Mocap? Or just motion tweens? Or?

Very nice work! (I laughed my ass of on the scared run, great stuff!)

  • Blender is very good. I love the interface and everything, and have grown attached to it. When I'm older, I might have enough money to get Maya. I want to make a game one day (really good) for free.

  • Blender is good, especially for independent projects. But keep in mind that if you ever plan on getting a job doing 3D work, you will have to learn other professional programs such as Maya, 3dsMax, etc. There are very few studios that use Blender in production.

  • @feebsicle now you can download maya for free through the facebook .. !

  • @ArmyTank00 I tried blender, but I couldn't understand it! I'm pretty good with c++ and flash, but when it comes to blender, I cannot. Don't you have to know Python to program games with it?

  • @ArmyTank00 lol get it free at piratebay ...

  • @ArmyTank00 i just downloaded blender and i dont get it. how do i animate?

  • Maya it's cool, but Blender it's free and it has the same results.

  • Maya is great I mean just check out the transformers movies! Blender is great too just check out big buck bunny thats pixar quality

  • nah...i think blender is capable of doing the same quality...just check out "creature factory video"...put those same graphics on a film and bam! is just that not a lot of people know how to use blender good enough..just wait and see how good it will get in 3-5 years.. its gonna be on the top

  • blender's newest open source movie is coming out and looks sick! guys, google "project durian" and check it out

  • hahahaha - ron weasley at the end :)

  • was it hard to make

  • No, but I've gone through a year of schooling. It will be hard for anyone who has never done 3D work before.

  • maya

  • obviouslly maya :D

    blender is for training,

    maya is for professional use

    costs 4000 U$

but there is people that use blender professionally to

  • this is a photoshop vs gimp question.

  • sorry..but not quite...not just cuz a soft is free doesnt mean its cheap.... blender has alot to offer i mean A LOT!! like FAKKKK ALOT!! u can compare it to proffesional software!! what other free soft can u find that has that much competition?....but it does have limitations though not concerning big problems..dont underestimate blender

  • Maya is more powerful by a LARGE margin. Blender is freeware, a full version copy of Maya will run you a couple grand.

  • maya, but blender is free

  • i watched war of the worlds and on bonus features this is what they used

  • Whats the proper Name of the program ...all i know is its called maya and that south park uses it HA

  • 0:26 that was scared run he looks like suprised from a exaple:toy!

  • RON WEASLEY

  • Very nice!

  • How long did it take you to learn how to make and learn the basics in maya and 3D animation? I'm considering trying it myself.

  • It's not as hard as what people think. The basics of Maya like Box Modelling are really easy to learn, for you usually always use the same tools (translations, rotations, scales, extrusions, split polygons, ...). You can find really useful tutorials all over the internet, even buy a book if you want to go further and do great stuff in no time if you stick to it regularly. Experience will make the difference :)

Check at my "Making of Couette" if you want more details !

    Good Luck :)

  • yea me too.

  • For animation, it is very important that you learn the principles of 2D animation first. They still apply in 3D. So get yourself Richard Williams' Animation Survival Kit (it's a great book, will teach you many things). Once you've learned about frames, timing, arcs, overlapping action, follow-through, keys and inbetweens, then you can start doing 3D animation.

  • where did you download maya??

  • i have may but i cant get 3d max and movies use maya more so maya is the winner here

  • the ending was really good!

  • This is the animation program south park uses! Im listening to commentary for south park

  • is maya animations more clear than 3ds max?

  • Honestly, the animation is only as good as the animator. It shouldn't matter which software you use.

  • okay:D ive just started to use 3ds max and im a bit confused if maya was easier to learn or different looking in movies..but i guess not.. btw whats the difference between maya and 3ds max?

  • I use 3ds max and Maya, but I've been using max since I was 13, so i'm more comfortable with max. They're both great pieces of software. But maya is much harder to learn.

If you want a comparison. You can search google for "3ds max comparison table"

  • tnx for the tip:)

  • I'd say Max is harder to learn, because it works waay more complicated than maya.

3dsmax uses a giant list of modifiers, whereas maya just does what you want without having to search through a gazillion modifiers.

  • IM BLUE! DABA DEE DABA DA.. et cetera :|

  • can some one tell me the best 3d animating kit for making a zombie movie with characters resembling albert wesker and squall?

  • Hey, I don't know if anyone can help me out with a question that I have, but I was wondering if you could tell me what each 3D program is used for, like if they all have different uses or something. Like they have 3ds Max and Maya, and other programs like Blender and 4D studio. Are they all primarily used for the same thing, or does each thing used for something else, i.e. Movies, video games, etc.... ?

  • They're all pretty much the same thing.

Blender is freeware, and typically used for independent/short films because of that. Maya and 3dsMax are typically used in professional environments, and are used for the visuals in games, animations, movies, tv shows, medical videos, simulations etc.

  • nice touch with the lighting on the sad walkcycle, and i really like your animation style

  • thanks for the advice i will look for them right now!

  • thats so cool! Im learning it too!

  • awesome :)

be sure to check out the gnomon workshop tutorials, they've helped me a lot in learning 3d in Maya.

  • hmm... ive been wondering about computer animations.

i have a lot of free time on my hands and i'm ok at art so i was trying to see if there are any free and good animation systems for download. know any?

  • If you want to do 3D animation, you could try out Blender. It's free, and there are probably tons of demos and tutorials out there to help you learn.

  • sweet- thanks. now i jst have to memorize everything :p

  • Oh also, I forgot to mention that if you want to really get into animation you should learn more about classical/2D animation. All the fundamentals are the same, and the extra knowledge definitely helps. Read Richard Williams' Animator's Survival Kit for a good start.

  • one of the best books for general animation knowledge

  • 8.5 is so buggy..

  • I completely agree with you!

I use 2008 now, but I hear with 2009 they've implemented a lot of new and awesome features. It sounds like their acquirement of Softimage helped to implement those changes.

  • Really nice piece of work, check out my 3DS max animation mate.

  • This is amazing! Your models are so awesome.

  • Oh, these aren't my models. I give links at the beginning of the video to where I got them. They're called Lowman and Generi, I'm sure you can find them with a quick google search.

  • Ahh sorry about that. Nevertheless the animation is amazing.

  • Thanks :) Check out my other vids, I've got some more recent work up now from some of the shows I've worked on.

  • hey guys you want this software but its better maya 8.5

  • actually, 8.5 is kind of glitchy. Maya 2008 is a little better, but Maya 2009 is coming out really soon with a whole bunch of great new features.

  • did you go to the art institute of ??????

  • no, I went to Vancouver Film School.

  • do you recommend that school?

  • Yes, but it's very expensive.

Sheridan college and Ringling college are also great schools for 3D animation/design. I'm not sure how much their tuition is though.

  • awesome dude

  • Good acting with the scary part at the end

  • Btw GREAT job

  • Where can I download this

  • There are links to the character rigs at the beginning of the video. As for Maya, there is a personal learning edition usually available on the Autodesk Maya website.

  • its not offered anymore :(

  • RON! LOL!!!!! Nicely done. Almost Wall-e style blu guy.

  • i wish i could animate like you! :) keep it up

  • I had used maya and made a simple animation today. (it was my first time but it was not on my computer! XD)

  • where can i donwload tehse characters

    very impressive animation.

  • There are links at the beginning of the video.

  • dude how long did it take 2 make that??

  • Just under 3 weeks, though now it would probably take me a day or two. This video was my first time using Maya for animation (I had previously used Softimage XSI), so it's pretty rough. I've been using Maya professionally now for just over 3 years, so my work has improved a lot since I made this.

  • i like the lil beat on this.. lol

  • Perfectly done.

  • Very well done!

  • Thanks :)

  • At my animation class (for kids) at RISD the boy said that the PLE version didn't work and lagged a ton, so he bought it.

  • Very expressive animations. Amazing work!

  • Wow, Thats really awesome. I want to be Animator (I'm 15) and I talked to a lady who was in charge for "Kun fu Panda" and she told me this was the program that created it. I got the 15day trial version for free, but I didn't know how to use it. Any tips? I've already had expeircne in wrking with other 3D programs like ZBrush (i think)

  • For the record, Zbrush isn't a 3D program. It's a 2D interface for working on the surfaces of 3D objects. You can technically model using Zbrush, but it's mostly used for making detail maps. Maya has a personal learning edition (PLE) that has tutorials, which will help you learn. You can also try gnomon workshop tutorials which are very helpful. Good luck :)

  • great work

  • my goodness it's realy good ... nice

  • DOES IT COST ANYTHING please tell

  • this program is a very expensive program. ur lookin at over $1,000.

  • erhm, it's like $7,000 :)

  • hehe why i use torrents :D

  • $4559 for some version...

  • beast maya looks great soft

    ur a god

  • nice job..keep it up :)

  • Bravo!!

  • I have a few charcters too..and he's right you can download alot of charcters with rig to maya..you're good.. Ima beginner so you own.. :D

  • Thanks. I wonder why people keep thinking I'm a guy, though?

  • nice animation girl

  • good work man.. keep it up..

  • Great job! You think your actions through and thats what made them so believable.

the last one cracked me up when I realized the voice was Rupert Grint.

  • nice animation

  • Good Work!!

  • meh

  • You really put the effort into your animations. I really like the acting one. Keep up the good work!

  • nice attention to detail, and whoever said that its not organic enough is a silly billy lmfao its awesome

  • those are pretty amazing. :-). i hope to do stuff like that one day.

  • Very Cool

  • funny

  • Great job, the only thing I see strange is Generi's normal walk, from the side it looks like he's beating his chest. Otherwise great :]]

  • the weight was funny... first he's trying sooo hard and than, woeps, the block turns like it's a feather...

If it was ment to be funny, you suckseeded... :-)

  • Ive been trying out some facial stuff lately too on my cartoons. It does really give the movies characteristic instead of stone figures staring at eachother and makes it looks good. Keep it up, I need hella more practise tho.

  • That ending was FUNNY! You got that from Harry Potter.

  • Nice facial animation, good job expressing weight,

    I need lots more practice.

  • good start...but you need to make it more organic...it still seems really stiff and dead. practice practice practice...read "The animatoers survival kit by Richard Williams" and put it into practice in your future work.

good start though :) i liked where you were going with your bus stop stuff !

  • Man...I should put a date on this reel or something:)

I did it last year, so I've improved immensely since, and have been working in the industry. I have that book, and many others, but thanks for the very sound advice!

  • my apologies !! yes - you should put a date on there...

id love to see your work now, to see how much youve improved.

  • Yes, I'll definately be putting a new reel up sometime next year, but I have to wait until the shows and films I work on actually are released to the public - I can't spill any juice :D

  • very nice, was this o nthe artery too?

  • I don't think so, but one of my other animations was.

  • great work buddy ! :D thanx for sharing :)

  • Nice work buddy. How long did that take you to do?

  • About 3 weeks-ish. Maybe a bit less.

I did all the walk cycles in one day.

  • that's important foundation work. i should follow your example and stop trying to model and get to animation ! :) (i'm trying to convince myself ) all your walk cycles looked good except maybe one where the feet seens to have no ankle flexion. The animation on the guy that made the kid cry was fun :) i liked the eye stares .
