it is easy to pick on "uberparents," but no one thinks it wrong when a four-year old can recite all the lines from a Disney movie. Children are like sponges, and will absorb whatever is put before them. Traditional poetry like this works at a very primitive linguistic level as well as an allegorical level, so it is perfectly natural for a child to enjoy the musicality of the words--without parental pressure.
@zrlrios Well articulated. Thanks! My son is now almost 11 and our habit of using poetry memorization has proven to be very beneficial for him on so many levels. Obviously he didn't truly understand the depth of what he was reciting. Heck, many adults can't even think that deeply. However, as you pointed out, I would rather encourage him to fill his mind with beautiful words and classic literature than the television jingles that so many kids spend their time reciting.
@Jaydoggie i used to read comments when i browse through my favourite works of prose and poetry.but so far i havent read a comment that elicited my interest to reply .today i am reaching out my friendship to that soul who felt ,the question at the end was priceless.its what life should be all about.the innocence of that question was felt by you and valued.good.
Here in Taiwan,I use Quinn's video to motivate my children and my students to recite this poem. They all think Quinn is really cute, and are willing to follow him. Thanks for posting this.
Can I watch the movie/video now?!?!? I love it!! Quinn looks like he is about as old in this video as I was when I first learned this poem. It is one of my favorites, even today. I just made a video to the poem too. Thanks for sharing! Quinn is adorable!

perfecting teaching method: you can only watch The Dark Knight if you recite a famous and profound poem in an ironically blithe manner.
