  • And the final oscar goes to: this crazy sailing stuntman :-) nice movie!!!

  • EPICCCCCC!

  • Only issue is that if someone gets injured badly and in need of help, it does not seem that they could get help quickly, too risky for me,

  • this isnt a race anymore, just survival

  • I just completed Vancouver-SF on 50 ' Beneteau and have concluded that doing foresail changes on a heaving deck, at night, in the rain, is most exhilarating only after one has survived it. Me? I think I have proved all I need to and will enjoy the America's Cup races from the deck of something dry where I won't spill my drink.

  • Damn it! That's risky.

  • One Word. Madness.

  • This is insane, i havn't been close to this, and i get frighten evertime its start to blow up out at sea

  • Fine until the sun goes down, then it can get a bit much.

  • oh my god this is scary

  • Hey, that's funny :)

I sailed on one of these boats for a week @ UKSA. In a force 8. On he irish sea ^^

First 3 days nothing but throwing up, but after that, i never felt more alive xD Credits to divedog 59 lolz.

  • These people have serious, SERIOUS balls.

  • my dad was on one of the boats

  • Forget all the other extreme sports and jobs,

This one is over the top.

  • Maybe it's time to get out of the water guuyys.

  • Dun ask me why but i find it funny when they get swept away when each wave hits. But still I salute this people for sailing in such extreme conditions

  • Thats real Sailing ... A fight against the Elements :)

  • Balls of Iron!

  • THAT'S DUMB

  • WOOHOO!

  • Beats the heck out of crab fishing video, LOL. I sailed in weather ONCE similar to that in a 35 foot Choy Lee Catch, and the woman who owned it gave me the helm so she could go ride on the bow sprit naked. Sailors. Sheesh!

  • 1:36 and 2:04 they fkin disappear....no candy ass pirate there....

  • Comment removed

  • dude, 2:05 through 2:08 with the men aboard the bow manning the sail shows ya how powerful that water is! one moment there there, roague wave in a split second and they're gone!

  • Comment removed

  • I will :)

  • Bellissimo ........... but by nighttime it would be much more worst !

People like to sail because inthis way they can drive the wold, a little bet as God !

  • Does anyone else remember seeing this on TV back when it was first shown? I think I was only 11 at the time, but that song has stuck in my head, and being a boater myself, whenever I hear it while out boating it always reminds me of the beginning to this video.

  • Hey! Is that Mamosa Jack puking in the background? He doesn't his food well but drinks like a fish!

  • Awesome...!!!!

  • intro: Andreas Johnson - Glorious

  • Simply awesome video!

  • Brave!

  • great video mate thanks for sharing .

  • Mother Nature's a bitch sometimes.

  • Wow i wish i could experience some sailing like that!!!! shame it costs 40,000 to race round the world :( had a shot for 2 weeks on one of those boats recently they are just truly indestructable had over at a 60 degree angle and it still felt like it could do more!!

  • whats the song in the intro?

  • Awesome... A truly frightening place to be.

  • i wonder how you see life after that!!

  • @2:37 : Simply, WOW! Thats such strong wind... the storm sail is juggering but the Yacht is still heeling very strong.

What is that 10-12 Bf?? on the Ocean

  • Comment removed

  • que hombres la neta que son cabrones

    eso si es aventura extrema

  • Wow looks like the southern ocean..

  • @R00RAL Just wonder, how can u tell? Why not the North Pacific? Just curious i guess..

  • @etchellclass Because I have sailed the southern ocean a few times and thats exactly what its like. The skipper yelling out "Look out" the way the bow crashes into the next wave. The colour of the water was another good indicator as well was the wind speed. They were a few things I had noticed.

  • Their British Balls must of been screwed on tight for this :L great shots

  • 2:07 Beating around Cape Horn during a gale. Thats going to leave some bruises. Intense!

  • Chuck Norris must have been out swimming in the ocean on this day.

  • "I would be shitting in my pants... these guys are insane" - Haha yes!

  • i wish it was me ...and sure i wana past the horn too.... im only 18 i studie in navigation and hell i will bought an sail boat one day! and please respect these man they are real

  • red sky in the morning. . .

  • I would be shitting in my pants... these guys are insane.

...makes the Deadliest Catch episodes look like nothing.

  • @DouglasMiles1 sorry, It's the wind speed, these boats don't go faster than 12 maybe 15 knots avarage. not faster

  • At 2:05 where did those people go on the port bow. Hope they were tied off because I wouldn't count on being rescued going overboard. I think they just disapeared.

  • @pbr2424 They were secured to the boat with lifelines, if you watch the video again you should catch a few glimpses of the lines attached to both the crew and to the jackstays.

  • @EbonyDawn correct been on one and been attatched

  • holy mother of...

  • GREAT VID. BUT THE MUSIC FUCKS IT UP!

  • O.O

  • In case people missed it, the speed indicator was reading 38 knots. And that's not the wind speed.

  • @DouglasMiles1, it is the wind speed, it really is. those hunks of steel wouldn't do 38 knots if you dropped them off a really tall building

  • @grumpybowman some sailboats can do 50+ knots. Look up L'Hydroptere. Also, 38 knots is about 40 MPH. These boats are shallow draft with large keels and oversized sails.. They are designed to do just one thing, go fast and stay fast for long periods of time.

  • @DouglasMiles1, SOME boats can do 50 knots, but not THESE boats! They are steel, they are heavy, they are designed to take numpties slowly (but relatively safely) against the prevailing winds, for an experience they will never forget (try as they might). I think you are thinking of a different race : )

  • @grumpybowman - when you have posted your sailing CV you might be in a position to judge the crew of the BT Global Challenge. As one of the bowmen on board in 2001 i know what it was like in the Southern ocean, TWICE. Have you been there?. er, didn't think so. Professionals from every level of the sailing community from Volvo to America's cup congratulated and showed huge interest in our story, paid for or not. So, post your sailing CV and we'll pick up on your achievements!

  • @srbreen I am not seeking to denigrate your achievements, but I am quite familiar with taking inexperienced people racing. I'm afraid my professional sailing CV would not fit in the space available here.

I'm not sure why you seem so angry, I'm only pointing out that these are not fast boats. In my capacity as a carbon composite boat builder I have built Volvo 70s which really do achieve those speeds (and more) but challenge boats definitely do not.

  • @DouglasMiles1 @Grumpybowman is correct about these boats not doing the speeds you suggest. The Challenger 72 hulls are made from 6mm steel and the boats weigh about 53 tonne when kitted up for the races. I believe the fasted speed they clocked was 18-20 knots.

  • Nice video~~

  • one day.. ONE DAY :)))))

  • @piglettoes ....ONE DAY!!! ;-)

  • @piglettoes I thinking the same - ...ONE DAY!..

  • They must be mad to have the crew out there not strap into their safety harness! not the right time for MOB drill lads...

  • wow and I thought Cook Strait New Zealand was rough.

  • вот это настоящая гонка

  • god bless

  • Crazies! I wish I had guts like that!!

  • @bigsailboatproject , not so much guts as no idea what they were getting themselves in for

  • @grumpybowman of course they knew what they were letting themselves in for - training for these races is very thorough - now and then! To call people numpties and idiots just because they have paid to take part in an amazing experience says more about you then it does about them.

  • @bunnydrumming I apologise for the words "idiots" and "Numpties" I'm afraid I have become dark and cynical after taking too many inexperienced people racing

  • @bunnydrumming Agree, and if you don't like inexperienced people then don't sail with them. If I had 25 grand to drop to sail in that race I would. I have some recreational sailing background but we all know to get this experience on your own boat, with your own crew, etc will cost far far more than 25 grand. You don't need to own a airplane to take an airplane ride...

  • its funny what people risk their lives for

  • @TheDrummer178 these guys get paid, and if they win they get paid even more. But, I see your point.

  • @ryts92 sadly most of these idiots actually paid quite alot of money (about £25 000 i think) for the pleasure of sailing slowly around the world the wrong way. the skippers were paid....badly

  • went on these boats last week they are owned by the "tall ships youth trust" for kids to have a sailing experience lived in it for the week amazing but not rough sea's just the bottom of the uk lol

  • @c0nn0rfred Only 4 are owned by the Tallships Youth Trust. But several of their sister ships are also used for sail training by the Ocean Youth Trust and Challenge Wales. 2 are now polar explorer ships, 1 is privately owned and the other is laid up in Germany last I heard. These vessels are pretty ideal sail training boats and it's good to see them put to such good use.

  • Are they looking for crew? :)

  • Coragem desses homens...

  • The Awesome Beauty of nature!! I can smell the breez !!!

  • When could you ever feel more alive?

  • Hang ooon!!!

  • 2:05!! That's going to hurt.

  • Been out on a sailboard in conditions like these...and all you can do is pray that the good Lord will spare you...at least until the next time one venture's out in 40 knot+ winds

  • Hang On, BOOM---Whooooosssshhhh.

Great shots of big swells wanting to take you overboard or break your bones, lacerate your skin...

  • I wanna know how many knots they were still pulling with the trysail out.

  • Those are conditions that any experienced sailor never wants to sail through. Anyone who has experienced conditions half that violent knows what I'm talking about.

  • Comment removed

  • @dteberle Not so....Those are conditions that EVERY experienced sailor wants to sail THROUGH. There are very few experienced sailors who want to do so again. I am one.

  • That was fucking awesome...I think it looked like a lot of fun, in a sick "oops I think I shit my pants" kind of way. The kind where you didn't realize that it was fun until you get back on shore!

  • felt good when i stopped banging my head against the wall.

  • No fun

  • / vomit

  • @Trendywun there's no time for that there ;)

  • the song??

    thanks

  • thats really excelent advanture! And true andrealine.

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome video, thanks for uploading!

  • Incredible, incredible!!!! absolutely stunning!!! I know it's not the point in the video, but whats the name of the song after glorious???

  • Thanks for asking that

  • Thanks for asking that

  • Awesome video! Heeling way over dragging the boom in in the sea with gale force and 30 foot seas. Pucker factor 100!

  • HAVE WE GOT EVERYBODY

  • Rough seas with rough seamen!

  • Wouldn't it more efficient to put a mast and sails on a submersible

  • @rcpmac

    Doesn't look as nice.

  • Nice video..:P is there someone who know what the first piece of music is called..?

  • Not sure what it's called but I think it's by Nobbie Williams

  • OUFFFF.... one hand for the boat, and the other for the man ! ... F... the boat, i'll take my both ! lol ....Wonderfullllll

  • What I'd give to feel that rush...

  • it is amazing fun and a total rush for the first hour or two :) ..... but the scary thing is that you cant just turn it off or go home, when they have the red sails up those men are sailing for their life..... its not always fun, especially when the skipper has to ask if we have everyone. sorry not being a mope or anything :P just thought a would spread some light on it :)

  • Outstanding! Amazing seamanship, and no crew got washed overbard! No fear.

  • круто нах!!!!!

  • Thank goodness whoever put together this video didn't block out the sound of the waves and voices and replace it with some crap rap music. Amazing sailing!!

  • amazing. i love it, i wanna cross the cape horn, and die there, if i must. i love the storm.

  • @bigfefu If you live you will savour life so much more! Strap yourself to the mast!

  • Racing. Pushing the limits. Gaining some, loosing some. Finding the balance between driving the boat hard without loosing too much time when the call to change sails is made. This includes the constantly updated holistic knowledge of boat, crew and equipment condition. This is the art of a professional skipper. It comes naturally without effort to the good ones. You can recognise them through the actions of their crew.

  • i similar scenario once but on a smaller scale, got caught 20kms out of the gc seaway in 35kt winds on a 50ft boat and even tho there was some big bloddy waves i was so fascinated about how the boat handled it was pretty fun actually. love the ocean.

  • Please tell me the music. I've seen this video several times in the last couple of years and I would love to know where the music comes from. Very nice and perfect for the video. Powerful.

  • EPIC

  • Scary but extremely fascinating at the same time...!

  • this is way too hard core for me (a 3 hour afternoon sail in 25 knots of wind on a hot day is right for me). however, please don't diss these guys, they are the best sailors in the world and are there because of the love of heavy weather sailing. its similar to any other hard core, adrenalin-rush sports like extreme skiing, surfing in 50 ft waves off hawaii, mountain climbing, sky diving, etc.

  • I don't think I will EVER tire of this video!

  • Does anyone know the name of the orchestral music?

  • This is sailing pornography.

    Thanks

  • Haha, well put.

  • Unbelievably exhilirating, and wet, by the looks of it. One of these is in Cardiff now and renamed as Challenge Wales, the others are all over the world!

  • nutjobs

  • 2:22 Yeah!! ahahahahahahha yeeeehhhhh ahhhhhh!

  • Scary

  • I like sailing and this video is very cool ;)

  • can u imagine the ride it would be at the top of the mast lol

  • Absolut genial......;-)

  • damn intense. im surprised no one went overboard

  • @johnchang7 If you look closely, everyone is harnessed and tethered to the boat.

  • geilgeilgeilgeil.......i mog aaaaa!!!!;(

  • OMG... 2 MOB the same time at 1:35

  • @EfAnthipilarhos, not overboard, just washed down the rail.... not that thats very nice

  • every powerboater should watch this,,,cant believe some asse,,asked ,,,duh whats the name of the song??/missed the point,,,

  • That was just insane!

  • god that seen at like 1:38 is awesome

  • Best Video on Youtube, utmost respect for you guys. inspiration.

  • wow respect!

  • the name of song?

  • Amazing...!

  • Really good video ,man! These waves..were you in open sea?

  • duuh...global challenge....GLOBAL-ROUND THE WORLD!

  • me and my bud did this stuff in the amicis in spain in a spinker (6 man team)

  • holy crap! That is intense man! go baby go!

  • unbelievable sailing.

  • This looks like some miserable sailing, but I'd still love to do it. Gotta be something psychologically wrong with that.

  • sail boats are not for you man....try something like a fishing boat (without engine on it )

  • another armchair expert troll. thanks for the input. now go let your man creampie you.

  • WOW ....THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!!

  • love it... wish i could do that.

  • Is this spamor not? It's a plain BT ad at least, for sure.

  • Xplore Expeditions is offering a discount on high latitude sailing adventures to anyone having done the BTGC/ GC / BRITISH STEEL CHALLENGE!

Sail aboard a comfortably refit CH67 yacht to So. Georgia, Antarctica, etc. with skipper/expedition leader Stephen Wilkins (BTGC 2000/01) See xplore dash expeditions dotcom for programme and details

  • 1:56 shouldn't they fall of from wind (waves) to ease the downbringing of the fock (thats the swedish word atleast" or else it will slow em down more than the time it takes to take it down completely.

  • two words...INSANE & WHY? Thats crazy!!!

  • holy shit haha, im only 15 but i hella wanna do that

  • Me too

  • EPIC!

  • Fuckin hell!! Really epic sailing! :)
