Lol, this made me laugh cause even today Nvidia can barely beat ATI. Fanboys act like this was remarkable to beat the 4870X2 with an avg 4-10 FPS, now look at the 5970 which smashed the 295 by nearly 50 percent or more in a lot of games. then the Fermi has low manufacturing yields

sorry i will always be an nvidia card user only cause i used nvidia for the longest time and have never liked ati cards in old days of nvidia and ati you couldn't play a game that required a specific amount of video ram but with nvidia you can in most cases play that same game on less video ram although not the best in performace it would still allow you to play the game unless that's changed today which i doubt i will never go with ati.

the GTX 200 line was Nividias answer to the radeon 4000 line

5970 get 24% better performance then the GTX 295 on Average.

5970 is also around $200 dollars more expensive then the GTX 295.

also there are more computers with Nvidia Processors in them because Nvidia Drivers are better and Nvidia GPU's are optimized for a wider variety of games.

take Crysis For instance. in the opening Sequence of the game is says "Nvidia meant to be played"

GTX 295 on average with the new drivers it got is 36% faster then the 4870 x2.

Depends on the game also.

Radeon 5870 is about 20-15% less powerful then the GTX 295 but that is because it is a single GPU and the GTX 295 is a dual. also depends.

the Radeon 5970 is 24% more powerful then the GTX 295.

so I mean there is only one card out on the planet that beats the GTX 295 wich is the Radeon 5970.

and its around $200 dollars more expensive then the GTX 295.

so you get what you pay for.

Play the Game in Sand Box mode, Fill the hole Park up with Rides, Trees, Food Stands, and wait untill you get over 3000 guest in the Park, keep the Park on daytime only, give the Park a name, Save the game.

then use this Park to Compare the Frame Rates between these two Video cards and see who the Winner will be, Nvidia 295GTX or ATI 4870x2 : )

the 4870x2 wins on warhead because it has more memory then the gtx295, the 295 has 1792MB of mem and the 4870x2 has 2048MB of mem.

It just makes that small difference as with such heavy games a GPU just loses when it runs out of mem.

This rig is OK! But I realy advise you 295GTX. Now that drivers are new 4870x2 is faster in GTAIV.But when the new drivers come out (in some months) 295GTX is going to be 30% to 40% percent faster. If you want to overclock, buy ASUS Rampage 2 formula. This Motherboard is realy stable and fast.

I recommend you i7 (because of forums scores...). I have Q9450 and it is exellent overclocer. As it is for 295GTX: 2FPS is a small diference it can be fixed with new drivers, new GTAvi patch or some overclocing. In all games 295GTX is way better than 4870X2.I have 9800GX2 and I am happy that I didnt choose 3870X2,back then things were very alike today. The tests showed that 9800GX2 was just a little bit slower than 3870X2. Now 9800Gx2 is WAY faster thAN 3870x2!

We will have to see, but it looks like it will by the specs, Its basically 2x260gtx's with 280gtx stream shaders, since 1 260 is about 15% slower than 1 280 and the shaders even closing that margin, as long as it works well in quad it will be faster.
