  • Very good, even though Neil plays ten times harder than that! Come on man this is rock music, give it some pizzazz!

  • @pickmylocks Vital Signs is posted... I think in this old view AND in the new over head HD view... search for "vital signs drumming rush"

  • Top notch.

  • Sir, that was most outstanding. I really like that track. well done!

  • I know this video is a few years old, but very inspiring! Awesome job!!! I'm a huge Rush fan and while I am a guitarist, I can't help but play air drums when I hear this song! It's on my bucket list to learn how to play a few Rush songs on the drums (not that I would be anywhere near as good as you or Neal, but just for kicks). You have a pretty efficient kit layout. That's one thing I've noticed about Neal over the years is that his execution is continually evolving to look so effortless!

  • Very educational.Thank you.

  • Dude, awesome kit! Great playing! One tiny bit of constructive criticism from one drummer to another. At about 2:47, you might wanna go back and listen to what he does there. If I remember correctly, he does what I call tap 5's, or tap 5 stroke rolls, between the small toms and the hi-hat. The tap would be on the right hand on one tom then a 5 stroke roll then a tap on the left hand on another tom, then the rest of the fill. So RllrrLrrllR then the rest of the fill. Great job man! I loved it!!

  • @drewper73 It's funny should mention this because I have never, until last Friday actually tried to figure out what he was actually doing there. I was preparing to redo this with my new kit, camera, view, sound etc. but I knew that that one little part was not quite right. I welcome your constructive criticism, especially when you don't tell me "dude, you really fucked that one up" and actually give me insight into what is going on. thanks!

  • you are just like Neal pert

  • Great drumming man. I play along with this on my bass and seeing and hearing you really helps me get a better feel of the interaction with the rhythm section.

I think its cool that you get a different message out of the lyrics, the interpretation is relative to the listener.

  • Bravo - well done!

  • Hey man what symbols do you use?

  • soooo nice, brother...thanks.

  • Love the playing! btw if you live in alabama we need to start a band! heh:)

  • People are allowed to have their own personal take on the song but dont go around saying thats what the song is about when it isnt ...just say this is what the song makes me feel thats the beauty of music when you can relate to it in a way that almost doesnt have much to do with the song thats proof that the lyricist is genius in My opinion like to me this song is about Loving then loosing love but it will always be there and reflect in your next loves eyes. youll never forget love.

  • ohh i love this song, one of my favorite, thanks. great job dude!

    saludos desde Mexico

  • This song is an excellent example of how timekeeping can accent such an energetic groove.

  • you play very good

    from panama, panama

  • That's awesome!! Rush FTW!!!

  • que grandeeeeeeeeeeee gordoo maestroooooooooooo

  • Great to see someone tackling Presto, Counterparts and RTB. My heaviest Rush-listening/playing years were 'round then, so it's a treat. Keep up the good work.

  • Man, those small ride toms make "the" sound don't they...I have to admit, I would hate to move your kit. LOL

  • nice ;-)

  • Good work, Presto is SUCH a great album.

  • Once again, excellent performance!

  • A deep metaphor about sex! My favorite Rush song ever! Listen to guitar bridge: a baby crying.

  • If that's what you read in, then that's YOUR deep metaphor, because this song was inspired by Neil and his daughter rowing out to watch the sky in the middle of a lake.

  • @Pauliewanna - that is it. (correct) I have that interview on cassette tape. .Good job on drums Paulie. What brand/style and size is your China type (above your ride) ?

  • @skatenorthport89 Actually he was in the middle of a lake with his daughter Selena watching a meteor shower, an ostensibly ephemeral occurence like..nevermind!

    BTW great drumming, your awesome

  • You know... I usually HATE watching covers on Youtube... but, I REALLY enjoyed this. Great job!

  • 3:52 onward is quite a awesome beat,Good job.

  • Very smooth and natural as always. You are awesome.

  • PERFECTION as always Paulie!!!!

  • how much did your china cost?

  • PRESTO is a Rush's album not enough famous. :( Great song from great album

  • Couldn't agree more.

  • The sickest of the sick...

(i.e. slang for very very very awesome in North American English)

  • you make it look easy, dude .... well done

  • pretty good

  • This is how Rush would sound with Omar Hakim....Good stuff.

  • Must be all that Indian food I eat.

  • What part of Canada are you from?

  • The cool part.

  • Nice lol, Canada rocks, And how long have you been playing the drums?

  • Since 1988, but I took 6 years away when i went to University and lived in an apartment when I basically didn't play at all. So, I'd say 15 years.

  • Oh, Nice you're a very talented drummer, Seeing you play Rush songs so well is making me want to drum lol.

  • This is really well done...don't underestimate the difficulty of that opening!

  • ...interpretations! ...and, even if you improve your own video productions with better equipment, then you will have done more than most! ...any original material on the horizon?

  • ...not to sound ridiculous, but exactly which Music recording software/hardware would allow you to upload to youtube? I'm tired of my sony net sharing cam with a condensor mic and no audio input jacks! ...you really are one of the better drummers, like ready to go pro! I know the famous types forget their humble beginnings, but Rock On! You will find the occasional fan who ate cornflakes his dog pissed in! ...the reason we have security! Your renditions and interpreations are very good, too!

  • you definetly got the feel for this :) keep on going

  • great!!!

  • Presto is a vastly underrated album, y'know? Anyway, this is an old video, but still, great one, Paulie.

  • Thanks for posting these videos, man, you're pretty awesome, i pretty much watch one of yours whenever i want to see what is going on after listening to one of the songs. Rock on!

  • GREAT JOB, I love Rush and you did well. I have seen most of your other ones as well, keep it up!

  • Well, sorry i didn't mean that! It just wasn' t good time to reply anything to anyone in that feeling. It was not a good thing to say shit things to someone who's a pretty good drummer :)

So, all apologies. and you did it well.

  • Why do people have such a hard time speaking English on youtube? Your comments are uncalled for. FYI no Rush song is "easy" to play. Some songs, like this one, are easier to approximate, but it still takes some serious dedication and skill to play each fill exactly as it appear on the album. When you do this you realize exactly how much thought Neil puts into each drum part in a song.

Keep up the excellent work Paulie, you're an inspiration to many of us.

  • a) how did you happen to get to my video?

    b) why did you watch it?

    c) who pissed in your cornflakes?

    d) where are your videos of you playing something harder?

  • THAT'S NICE!!!!!

  • Very good job polie, excelent drumming, very good timing and a very nice drum kit, I strongly believe that if you just added some emotion and if you pounded harder you could achieve the closest thing on earth to Neil's performances, because that's the only way to play Rush baby ! With emotion, strength and deep feeling, congratulations and keep up the Rush spirit !

  • The last two "Rush" shows i went to Neil looked totally void of any emotion...He looked like a robot, never smiled once..it was kind of a turn off to me,but still an awesome show!

  • dude you rock xD

btw my fav rush song =)

  • always loved that mini-cymbal at the start.....

  • nice job man!

  • Is there the original studio version anywhere on here?

  • Keep on Rock-n Dude ! Dont forget the family tough ! Love the tune for sure !

    Gus

  • Spot on! You wouldn't happen to be looking for a gig in the Houston area, eh?

  • i'm not a drummer (played guitar in a Rush cover band) but Peart has always had some wicked ride cymbal work and you nail it. the little 'triplets' on the ride during the chorus (sun dogs fire on the horizon...) is cool. i never really noticed it before til i saw you do it. seems like that would be hard but it sounds cool.

  • I know his drumming well. I'm on in 45 seconds. Quite DEAD ON.

  • Paulie you TOTALLY kick ass brother! I haven't watched a single one of your videos that wasn't right on the money! How about another great tune from the Presto album, how about some Anagram (For Mongo)?

  • Wow! I'd love to jam with you (guitar player). Thanks for posting; I love this song as well as your skill and passion!

  • You're great man. Greetings from Sweden.

  • dude your AMAZING!!!! RUSH!!!!

  • If you people rip on him you need to go back and start taking lessons all over again becuase you just have no idea hoe good this man is so if you say bad things go back to a teacher becuase he is tops on my list!

  • FANTASTIC!

  • Dude you are an amazing drummer

  • I never understood why Rush haven't played this tune live.....Presto is my favorite album.

  • Dude, awesome job. IMO the most underrated song in their later catalog. There, I said it!

Good to see this posted, I was impressed :)

  • Pretty much nailed it bro! Great job!

  • Good job, in the last month this song has been in mind every day... a like a lot because the meaning of lyrics...talking about the power in nature.

and also the drum of the song is fantastic... great job

  • MrDumbass: Please stop Your typing and go away ! You're a complete MORON. For what You said, it's plain to see You're not a drummer or have even drummed before.

    See Ya- but hopefully not!

  • Hey Sammie/Handi, I appreciate you guys sticking up for me, but don't worry about it. I've already explained to Mr. Depp that I'm not trying to do an 'imitation' of Neil Peart, just playing the songs. Comments such as his don't bother ME, so don't let them bother you. Just sit back, click and enjoy.

  • Are you kidding? He's playing these songs perfectly. Of course he's not going to have Neil's feel and especially not his BODY LANGUAGE (you've got to be kidding on that one). He's NOT NEIL.

  • I was under the impression that I would find no other outlet from which to get my Rush fix after seeing them in concert. I am only 17 of coarse but that doesn't mean that Rush can't be my favorite band. The point is that you are an excellent Neil Peart cover drummer and I hope you keep it up for years to come. I feel that Rush should never stop having its music played and you do it the justice it deserves.

    Thanks for that.

  • Wow, even for Neil, thats a busy song... kudos as always

  • Cool! But it would be better with the open hihats!

    Best Regards!

  • Yes, you are correct, but with my current sound recording setup, sloshy hi-hats really drown everything out. I did have them half-open, but I think the gate on the compressor silenced that a bit. Thanks for your input.

  • Oh... Well, I hope you keep uploading videos!

    Thanks for answering!

    Best Regards!
