  • Public Radio helped me discover Neko Case! And I can NEVER repay that favor. Neko Rules!!! People Got A Lot Of Nerve listening to commercial radio : )`

  • Thumbs up if you came here because of an actual good taste in music.

  • true blood? wtf? nick cave helped me discover neko case <3

  • My sister watches true blood, that's usually a good enough indication that I best avoid it.

  • thumbs up if you're ashamed that music you like apparently was on true blood

  • what the fuck is trueblood?

  • Love this song

  • Is the animation in this video done by Julie Morstad?

  • thumbs up if YOUTUBE left you to discover how awesome Neko Case is

  • Neko is awesome.

  • I do wonder why people keep pets of wild animals and feel shocked when they hurt someone, even in the context of zoos. That is... Assuming this song isn't all metaphor, or something.

  • :)

  • What the fucking shit did I just watch!?!?!?

....What ever it was I strangely compelled to watch it again....strange.

  • What a beautiful album.

  • I'm amazed that Neko's voice is even more impressive live.

  • Seen her for the second time on monday night. She was looking fine, sounding great and drunk as hell. Oh, she was with My Morning Jacket as well. Great show.

  • thumbs up if TRUE BLOOD left you to discover how awesome Neko Case is

  • @jonwin105

Afraid not. I'm starting to think True Blood got a little ridiculous. I watched a large portion of the first season, but members of my family still watch it, and I suppose I should hardly have been surprised at how very strange it is now...and even more melodramatic.

  • @jonwin105 I liked Neko Case before I heard her in True Blood *dons hipster glasses*

  • @MindfreakMCR

    Agreed! Years before! She's awesome!

  • @MindfreakMCR

Your name seems to make reference to a terrible emo band; your argument is invalid.

I like Neko Case. I don't remember where I first heard it.... it definitely wasn't a trashy (but kinda interesting) vampire romance drama :-| Also my mum likes Neko Case, and that's pretty cool.

  • @0incorporeal Sarcasm is lost on you, innit? Sure, play the "the music I listen to is better than yours, mainstream bands suck" card, that won't make you look like the comment about hipster glasses stung you, not at all!

  • @jonwin105 More along the lines of The New Pornographers, but True Blood im sure is just as valid!

  • @jonwin105 vomit. I love trueblood, but no. just no. cbc.

  • @jonwin105 tsk tsk, you SHOULD know her from the new pornographers

  • shut up and listen to the music.

  • what the shit?!?!!? How did that correlate at all to the song?????

  • FMIII..kay

  • 4uu vkgfav e2xd4h1 p1p577m

  • I'm not high enough to watch this video *__*

  • how many elephants :D

  • What the fuck

  • Hipster faggotry to the MAX.

  • @BobTheBuilder378

1st - why? why is it 'hipster'?....what does that even mean.

2nd - by using the phrase 'faggoty', are you equating anything you dislike with homosexuality. Do you realise this is the 21st century?'

3rd - could you enlighten us all with your wisdom on how videos 'OUGHT' to be made; thanks.

4th - @Bob the builder' is also animated - so are you hipster, or indeed 'faggoty'?

  • this video is waaaay better /watch?v=Pkz3YR3_T2U

  • sorry but wtf is this i really dont under stand what this is

  • @ivettarronii 375 people of cambodia killed in stampede all are in pain all pain is because of birth giving birth is wrong extinction of all is good never do what will always be undone never make what will always be destroyed never give birth to what will always die jisko hameshaa marnaa hai usko paidaa mat karnaa please join human extinction movement no sex no birth no death no pain everywhere always lifeless har jagah hameshaa bejaan
  • i heard this before she was famous

  • if it wasn't for prostitutes...there wouldn't be no america.....or many other countries.....these ladies serve in a big way...lol

  • What the fuck.

  • Greyhounds!!

  • 18 people are going to be surprised-prised-prised when they're eaten.

  • This song & vid is a beautiful twist of mind forms...

  • This song sounds so beautiful. It needs to be a little bit longer because it often too short for me.

  • 16 people need to be eaten by a killer whale

  • alternative stylish and absolutely unique. Love her music, outstanding video posted at thebrandnewcolony music blog

  • All the animals in the vid are amazing and I want them in my house.

I could listen to this song all day. The truth behind it is amazing. The way its put together is beyond creative. Women can be maneaters too!!! So dont be surprised when we eat you!! :) Theres a fun little fact :)

  • @BooUcMe what do you know about being a maneater, kid?

  • @ThisLittleBlackBook As sweet and as cute as you think I'am I use to be kinda bad with the whole maneating thing. I went through guys really fast and I didnt care. It wasnt till this year where I cared alot. I feel bad for this one guy I feel like I really hurt :(

  • @BooUcMe do you think you have the ability to hurt a guy named "jospeh" in the same way? you know that guy jospeh?...

    and OMG you comment things!LOL

  • @ThisLittleBlackBook Well it didnt seem like you commented on things lol but how beautiful women are lol So I didnt think I was ever going to find you saying something on a song!

And to answer your question about hurting a guy named you said "Jospeh" right that was his name? Can I hurt him....no I dont think so I dont think I have that power over him....Do you think I can?

  • @BooUcMe idk... that "joseph" of whom we speak of is of a very peculiar species of human... but a human nonetheless! so yes, he can be hurt! and what's make you think that you haven't hurt him in that way already?

  • @ThisLittleBlackBook Well maybe I have...this "joseph"am I saying the name right? is a tough cookie :) I would never hurt someone who I care about.....

  • yeah thank god the girls dont have the u know what....

  • i like how she used the folklore tale in thevideo,

the animation is preety sweet and her song UH full of wonder.

    Nice song :]

  • @duraneok

Take your shit spam somewhere else you fucking parasite

  • This song is a jab at people's ignorance about wild animals and such, is what I think.

Like killer whales or tigers. People get too close to the animal for their own good, and then end up getting mauled or killed by it.

Then people are all surprised and shit that the animal killed someone.....well, DUH!

Then they end up killing the animal just because it did what wild animals do (attack whatever is a threat), that threat being stupid humans in this case....

  • @SeberHusky The killer whale bit was a metaphor

  • Wikipedia lists her as Indie Rock or Alternative Country.

  • This video reminds me of Henry Darger, except without the fairy wings and penises.

  • @willdbrtn or the blood. Or crucifixions.

  • Free Willy! Liberty is all that matters. Long live all man eaters! Beautiful song Neko!

  • My name is Jack Woodward. I've spent the past few years churning out music as fast as possible. Most cats record an album a year and call it a day. They deliberate on the shit that they're going to do before hand and deface the initial inspiration into obliteration. I try to capture it at the moment of conception. I don't question what I'm being told, I just write it down. Check out my music videos to hear the songs I conceived in this fashion.

  • so yesterday at the new pornographers concert, I noticed Neko has these super forearm tats that say, "Scorned of timber, Beloved of the sky." Looks like a homage to her college.

Random fact, but seriously she's a fucking badass. I love her lol.

  • I could see She & Him singing this song.

  • I can't believe she "crochets" herself at the beginning... man...

  • I love her music :D

    However, I still don't understand it -_-

  • Best 2:36 minutes of my life.

    Sigh.

  • @ketchupdespot

I'd rather call Neko "ALT Country" just to distinguish it from the utterly unredeemable worthless shit that is mass produced in Nashville these days. Commercial "Country" was already dying back when Merle Haggard formed the Bakersfield sound. These days mainstream Country is beyond dead--it 's a maggot-infested rotting corpse.

  • @UncleIrv Not to split hairs, but Buck Owens' 1954 recording of "Louisiana Swing" with Bud Hobbs was considered the genesis of the Bakersfield Sound. Haggard helped popularize it in the early 60s, but he didn't "form" it. Although, I surely agree with your sentiment in the comment. Modern mainstream country doesn't sound like country at all.

  • "And I craved I ate hearts of sharks,

    I know you know it!"

<3 favorite part!!! Love her music!!(:

  • Ethereal..Heaven must sound like this.

  • Neko Case is sexy.

  • @TheSilentPawn beautiful...one of a kind!

  • Let me listen to this ONE more time...after I have already listened to it a thousand.

  • Beautiful video to accompany the song . . very nicely done. Saw Neko at HSBG in SF 2009 . . flaming red hair . . : >) Great performance. This song has cool lyrics, lot of imagery well depicted in this video.

  • I think that's the indiest thing I've ever seen. Amazing song, though.

  • This song is sexist :) (But I like it anyway lol)

  • @WildCat2002Russ I dont think it is I think it says alot about the ignorance of people regarding nature.

  • @premick22 That would make sense too. Some people don't understand that wild animals are unpredictable at times and they end up being injured or worse. I really like the song. This one is on my favorites.

  • Best pure voice out there - HANDS DOWN!

  • Comment removed

  • Chilling, eerie, and heart breaking, but beautiful!!!

  • Beautiful voice and music

  • Excelente!!!

  • what a cool video

  • this is so neko. I love her. Listen to that voice! magic

  • Lyrics remind me of Margaret Atwood's "Siren Song". I love the contrast between the upbeat rhythm and the dark theme.

  • Tolle Animation.

  • I love the ironic ending in this video. Earlier on in the song, Neko relates how people think she's a maneater, and then she ends up getting eaten herself! Gotta love her sense of humour!

  • @Pictor100 She's actually not singing about herself in this song. She's singing from the viewpoint of a wild animal talking about humans.

  • @Pictor100 i doubt that she was referring to herself as a maneater... especially since the song is about animals

  • like the music video!!

  • Ooh I heard this on A Prairie Home Companion. Greatness.

  • ummmmmm well tht was unusual!?

  • @ChoyceFamily Unusual? Keep listening, You may become hooked on it. That's how I ended up liking so many artists.

  • @101Volts same here i listen to it every 8 seconds.

  • this pretty much nails it.

  • Life imitating art? I don't freakin' think so. Sorry, but....

  • Comment removed

  • Thought of this right away.......

  • Every one of us had the same idea as soon as we heard that same story lol!

    +1 Neko

-1 Chick that didnt listen to this song

  • SONG OF THE DAY. It IS tragic... tragic that a whale that is used to living in the ocean instead lives in a 3,000 ft2 tank.

  • @hippublican Why don't you friggen do something about it, talker, non walker.

  • @russianfantastico why dont you?

  • @Nightshade4711 'Cause I don't care about whales. Durh.

  • Comment removed

  • @russianfantastico Was the "Durh" truly neccessary??? No, it wasn't. Just cause you don't care doesn't mean you need to make a comment. Grow up a bit. Hmm?

  • I heard the story of the guy getting killed by the killer whale today... and all I could think about was this song.

  • Comment removed

  • Yep, me too.

  • Me too!

  • Catchy song. And in the words of Chris Rock, "That killer whale didn't go crazy! That killer whale went KILLER WHALE!"

  • Wonderful Video! Neko Case is great!

  • This singer remind me Natalie Merchant

  • Its con't a theme she began way before this video. 100% her...

  • Good song, but I don't really like the art/animation style, especially the strange human figures and non-fluid motions.

  • Yes... it's a great song. Without looking, I'm guessing this is the same artist/animator that did the Fox Confessor artwork / videos.

  • antirecords, Another point to consider.

  • I love the "Byrds-style" guitar picking. Very cool. Was that played on a 12-string Rickenbacker?

  • muy bonita

  • Interesting, video.

  • Can you please put the artists' name up in the description. It's Julie Morstad.

  • Actually, it's Julie and Paul Morstad

  • IM IN HELL. FUUUUUUU

  • Do you think it's about animals? I think it might be a bit of allegory...

  • shes saying "dont fuck with animals"

  • and she is saying do not fuck with Neko. I would not.

  • @tomaperson nah, Neko is not saying "don't f*#k with animals" . . . she's saying "don't be shocked if the animals act like animals when you f*#k with them" . . . perfect example is the guy (Treadwell) who thought that he could live with Grizzly Bears, regrets? he's had a few . . .

  • So this girl is caught in an endless loop?

Great video, great song. Middle Cyclone might be my favorite Neko album yet.

  • trippy, dark, interesting animation

  • Cute video. Although I don't follow awards shows, I'd love to hear that she won something. She's much more talented than the Mariahs, Madonnas, Lady Gagas, and Beyonces out there.

"When I claimed I ate hearts of sharks..." so chilling. Brilliant singer-songwriter.

  • @GetmGhost

Agreed. Her lyrics are so often so dark and disturbing, juxtaposed against what's often upbeat, cheerful music, they're almost perverse.

  • I thought it was "craved I ate hearts of sharks..." Apparently I am extremely off lol.

  • @Tvtyrant2

Nope, you are not off at all... it's 'when I craved I ate hearts of sharks'.. according to Neko's official website anyways!

Great, great song.. seeing Neko live tomorrow night, and again the night after, for the 5th and 6th times.. she just keeps getting better, has never disappointed!

  • @Tvtyrant2.... you are right. I misheard. I have the ITunes exclusive version and it sounded like "I claimed..." but on it's pretty obvious on the "Middle Cyclone" version (and I assume here) that it's "craved I ate the hearts..." Good call.

  • @GetmGhost She was nominated for a Grammy.

  • Nekos going to the grammys!

  • @paul45862 YAY!!!

  • I'm really starting to like this song!! :D

  • yes, neko, come back to asheville please. also i was at the original knickerbackers show in lincoln. you said it was your favorite place to play in america. mutherfuckinyeah! you don't sound like the sundays or the smiths. you are my favorite, and i say amen.

  • Her voice is great! Reminds me a bit of the Sundays!

  • I work at American Eagle Outfitters and they play this song all the time in our store and I always smile when it comes on :)

  • sorry about all of the "comment removed by author stuff my brother keeps going on my acciunt and writing stuff ^^ haha but i love neko case on a side note she's never ceased to amaze me :)
