Hr Balkenhohl ist ein bewunderswerter Mann. Endlich jemand, der sich traut aktiv gegen die Rollkurvorzugehen und für den eine handbreit hinter der Senkrechte eine handbreit zu viel ist. Großes Lob, weiter so! Vielleicht hat der Dressursport noch Hoffnung.
I dont understand this man or is mail to the fei about rollkur. He trains Laura bechtoholsheimer and when shes ridning mistral it looks like a pure struggle with her using her whole boody and arms just to get him back. And he has the guts to complain about rollkur?anky, edward and adelinde dont ride like laura, when they ride it looks EASYand thats what dressage is all about.Laura and klaus makes dressage looks like a struggle.Cant everybody ride they way they want?klaus should mind his own business
Hmm I think you are being a bit unfair here. Everyone knows that Mistral Hojris is a hand full to ride and riding these types of horses is like sitting on eggshells. Hence he can look tense at times. I have seen loads of videos where Laura trains her horses and the training is pure classical. Very rarely can u
I don't agree. You can see that Anky, Edward and Adelinde are trained by the same person, it doesn't looks easy (even when Laura is riding - horror). The horses are so-called "schenkelgänger" - without back.
Klaus is legend! lol, he truly is the best of the best. And as far as I've seen, dressie horses don't come like that anymore; not a lot, anyway. He's so calm, even in that environment, and so in tune with his rider! Amazing.
definetly head placement. most modern dressage horses are squished in behind the vertical, while the classic dressage horses' noses were either in front of the vertical or on it. and they were much more relaxed and through their backs and uphill...the list goes on and on
Why oh why do people on here always seem to want to argue over the most trivial of things? We are not here to dicuss how a horse reacts to situations outside of competition, but rather to dicuss what we are seeing. A legend of equestrianism. The arguments are for the playground.
your sarcky comments are pathetic! not just salinero who gets frightened, Laura Bechthiemers horse mistral hojris bolted at the olympia in London due to the crowds estatic applause! FEI Dressage have decided 2reduce the amount of placings for health & saftey!
And your point is what exactly? I never said it was just Salinero. I'm rather depressed at the number of "top" riders who can't manage to control their horses in only mildly chaotic situations... I wonder what they'd do if something really bizarre happened... probably every one of them would end up with a broken neck for their foolishness.
you are really pathetic at times. Dressage horses are relaxed and content, listen to the next aids the rider commands them to do next. When a huge crowd go wild i think it would make you shake and go into 'goosebump mode' don't you think? if ur a dressage rider i think u should understand the situation?
Pathetic? ok, there's a first time for being called anything... anything else you'd like to get off your chest? :D I'm not only a dressage rider, I'm also a horseman, and quite frankly the standards of horsemanship shown by many of the "top" riders is just plain abominable. If your horse is truly listening to you, it doesn't matter if a nuclear bomb goes off under his ass, the only thing he's paying attention to is you.
Also do you honestly think a horse would stay by it's rider if a Lion/tiger came charging after it to eat it? No! because i wouldn't bloody do that either! a horse will always take fright when he/she feels danger is in it's path!
And you are not a horse my dear so stop assuming they think like you do. If you are really a good rider and leader of your horse, he will look to you for guidance on how to react. Just as in the wild you won't see the whole herd splitting up in a million different directions when attacked, they will move as a group (safety in numbers).
she a horse would gorge but you would never see a horse so stuffed up that he could not manage to gallop off with fright and out of danger!! i am not the leader of my horses. They are my friends and will spoil them, but will not 'buy' them love. just friendship with a little nolige of Parrelli training i have now started to study on a better way to help my mares stage fright! are you Bebo member?
No, I'm not a bebo member. Parrelli training and indeed natural horsemanship is all about you learning to be a leader of your animals. And you over estimate the common sense of some of our domesticated animals... I've seen some gorge themselves to the point that even when they went to a full run, I could have caught them on foot.
if you join Bebo you can see the photo's of who i am and see the horses i own and discover the real person i am. Funny, mad, honest, stupidly funny! you can also post your images of your horses!
And to make all these excuses for these riders to not even be able to control their mounts is just plain rediculous! I've ridden with many many crowds with many horses, and really it doesn't make a difference if your horse trusts you to protect them.
if your a horse person, you should know that a horse has an instinct inside it's brain telling it, is no longer safe! and will run for protection! Thats why a horse will not stuff it self full up with food! to be able to run when in danger!
ROFL... yeah that would explain why if your horse got out and your feed happened to be open you horse would gorge himself to the point of foundering... ;) And while I can't speak for tigers... I've encountered mountain lions many times on trails and never once had a horse panic.
No, I don't ride Dressage, my trainer does. I ride Western, but my Trainer teaches us intermediate dressage even though we're in a western saddle. I've heard great things about him, but I've never actually watched him up until now.
Dont want to sound mean, but you ride dressage and dont know who he is? He's not only an amazing rider, but he's also the current Chef d'Equipe to the US Dressage Team
Exemplary piaffe.

In the Grand Prix their zig-zag half-pass with counter change was breathtaking. Foot perfect and they just bounced through it. Will never forget it.

So true. Modern dressage is depressing.

Even Balkenhol rides his horses tighter now than he used to. Obviously, there's no escape, as long as you have to make a living. Sad enough, though.

In the past I have seen other men ride in uniform during dressage or jumping tests.
This man is impressive to watch.
