O Del Mio Amato Ben is really a beautiful Song. Rosa Ponselle sang it as it should be. I love it. I'll learn to sing it. Hope someone would be kind enough to translate it in English. I can't understand Italian.
Ponselle was a force of nature. So many beautiful colors in the voice. She stannds alone. She is also accompanied by a genius, Igor Chichagov. I studied with him. He is a great masestro in every sense of the word. He gets into the soul of the music. Two legends joining forces.
isn't it amazing she is already 57 in 1954 when recording. What a brilliant voice still, such a breath control and a glorious pianissimo. Must be one of the best versions of Azuleo ever. Indeed she could have been a dramatic soprano at this age. Very impressed, thank you for posting. Of a later generation Arleen Augers version is stunning. And also Arleen has passed away since.
Rosa is a supreme singer, and soul. This is haunting. I study with Maestro Sigmund Jasinski who was one of the students of Maestro Igor Chichagov. I study in the Ansonia in the music studio of Igor Chichagov. Igor is alive, and well. I sang for him in October at his home. A genius, and plays like he did 60 years ago. We miss you Rosa!!!!! Viva Ponselle!!!!
Could someone here post me the beautiful lyrics of this song? I don't need the translation because I understand Italian, I just want to make sure that I caught every word well. It would be nice to have the lyrics. By the way, I ADMIRE so much Rosa Ponselle!

First verse:
O del mio amato ben perduto incanto!
Lungi è dagli occhi miei
chi m'era gloria e vanto!
Or per le mute stanze
sempre lo cerco e chiamo
con pieno il cor di speranze?
Ma cerco invan, chiamo invan!
E il pianger m'è sì caro,
che di pianto sol nutro il cor.

Second Verse:
Mi sembra, senza lui, triste ogni loco.
Notte mi sembra il giorno;
mi sembra gelo il foco.
Se pur talvolta spero
di darmi ad altra cura,
sol mi tormenta un pensiero:
Ma, senza lui, che farò?
Mi par così la vita vana cosa
senza il mio ben.

Her voice was beautiful up to advanced age, though in some parts the color is like a mezzo.jfsanin

she commented that had she not retired young, she would have continued her career as a mezzo.
