Most of the people calling "foul" on the style of the solo...you made the first mistake when you EXPECTED anything particular from a boundless prog outfit such as Opeth. Open your minds.
At first I didn't like the solo style, partly because I absolutely loved Lindgren's sorta lazy way of doing 'em, but now after about 20 listens it works for me. I'm looking forward to seeing 'em live in three weeks.

sarà per il cambio di line-up.... è innegabile che martin lopez e peter lindgren fossero fondamentali per mantenere la band a certi livelli. vedremo come sarà il cd. io comunque spero di dovermi ricredere

bisogna dire che gli opeth pur mantenendosi su livelli musicali altissimi per innovazione e originalità comincino a lasciare l'amaro in bocca. li ho sempre amati per la loro capacità di fondere sublimamente diverse sonorità, ma ora sembra che cambino ritmo non per ispirazione, ma per complicare un po' le canzoni... album come "morningrise" o "My Arms Your Hearse" erano forse più immaturi, ma sono i veri album di successo degli opeth e a quei lavori devono il loro successo odierno.

from what ive heard of the new album. it sounds desperate. opeths music, however heavy always sounds natural- it progresses naturally. this however does not. the style has changed into almost random progression with $h1t£ nursury rhyme parts like 3.30 mins into this song. after ghost reveries, opeth reached its peak but since lopez and lindgren left it seems they are trying to prove they are still underground. im afriad this isnt underground, this is $h1t£....

I don't really care for the 2 new songs. Maybe I need to listen to them a few more times and let them sink in. But I never needed to with any opeth song in the past. Any other opeth song I'd listen to would instantly draw me in.

I remember the first time i heard Ghost reveries in scotland. didnt really like it. didn't listen to it anymore after that untill i got home again, now when i listen to it it gives me goose bumps, so maybe it does just need some time?

Well, I find this new album (From the 3 songs I've heard off of it)to be filled Axenrot's out-of-place blasts and drum fills, and recycled riffs from the old (and superior) Opeth.
What made me extatic to the point of wanting to gouge someone's eyes out, was when that fucking Fredrik Akesson ripped a very Roadrunner Records solo right in the middle of the song to rape the very last hope I had for the band's recovery. I won't get my old Opeth back. Goodnight, Sweet Prince.

From listening to this, and the two leaked tracks (The Lotus Eater and Porcelain Heart) I can tell this will be a masterpiece.
I don't know if they'll be able to top something like Still Life, but even so, this will be a masterpiece itself.

hey patternsll .. mikael akerfeildt got help from peter in rythm n ideas about the song's guitar since they were children so thats what made opeth The Band , and lopez was one of the bestest drummers ever , can u say something instead of that !! ?

At first I didn't like the solo style, partly because I absolutely loved Lindgren's sorta lazy way of doing 'em, but now after about 20 listens it works for me. I'm looking forward to seeing 'em live in three weeks.
