Yes all the UK's real colonies have gone, they are expensive and difficult to run since the mid 1900. All that remains are places were UK citizens live, such as Gibralta and the Falklands. Democracy, i agree. Democracy is not perfect but it is the best system we have. However i don't see how the 'kelpers' will ever vote for union/re-union with Argentina? Where are the 'original' Argentinian islanders...all gone.
Perhaps the British 'stole' the islands. But even if that is true, there are countless 'redistributions' of territory in the 1800s. Half of the worlds maps would need re-drawn, possible including Argentina's territorial map.
If there will ever be a political solution the Argentine Government will have to accept the right of the 'kelpers' to live in the falklands and indeed have some degree of self determination. It is inconceivible that a democratically elected UK government would act to evict its own citizens from their homes, this is not the West bank or Gaza Strip.
If Argentina tried to reach out to the 'kelpers', rather than tell them they are illegitimate and will be removed. That could help us all move forward to some sort of political settlement, also any idea of settlement was very badly set back in 1982. Without the war there would be little interest. But with the war, people remember and care what they fought to keep.
I hope there will be a solution, but that would take compromise and i don't think Argentina is ready to compromise. Salud.

Entiendo tu frustracion. Nunca es agradable perder territorio. Pero en algun momento hay que ser pragmaticos y ver la realidad. Argentina nunca le van a devolver territorio a Paraguay; Estados Unidos nunca le va a devolver California a Mexico; e, Inglaterra nunca le va devolver las Malvinas a la Argentina. I don't like colonialism and there are lots of things Britain did which were terrible. We British now have these things to face upto. But if it was not us, then it would have been the French or then the Spanish, or the Dutch or the Portugese! What i'm trying to say is that in 'Europe' we just let it go, we have all fought each other in long bloody wars. The land is part of the South American continent. There was a Governor and people living there before the British takeover. As you said, before 1982 UKeans didn't even know where the islands were. Some families can trace their ancestors back to the early 19th century. There are no 'aboriginal' tribes. Yes all the UK's real colonies have gone, they are expensive and difficult to run since the mid 1900. All that remains are places were UK citizens live, such as Gibralta and the Falklands. Democracy, i agree. Democracy is not perfect but it is the best system we have. However i don't see how the 'kelpers' will ever vote for union/re-union with Argentina? Where are the 'original' Argentinian islanders...all gone.

Perhaps the British 'stole' the islands. But even if that is true, there are countless 'redistributions' of territory in the 1800s. Half of the worlds maps would need re-drawn, possible including Argentina's territorial map.

If there will ever be a political solution the Argentine Government will have to accept the right of the 'kelpers' to live in the falklands and indeed have some degree of self determination. It is inconceivible that a democratically elected UK government would act to evict its own citizens from their homes, this is not the West bank or Gaza Strip.

If Argentina tried to reach out to the 'kelpers', rather than tell them they are illegitimate and will be removed. That could help us all move forward to some sort of political settlement, also any idea of settlement was very badly set back in 1982. Without the war there would be little interest. But with the war, people remember and care what they fought to keep.
I hope there will be a solution, but that would take compromise and i don't think Argentina is ready to compromise. Salud.

There used to be a 'British'communty in Bs Aires, of course after the war lots of names were changed (I.e. The Torre Clock Tower), Many British people (Yes Welsh and Scots are British)settled in Patagonia etc, etc.
This happened despite the early British attempt to invade Bs As. So why now (1980-2007) is it of so central importance?

Last year I've been to Trevelin and ate Welsh cake. The communities are still there. That Tower is traditionally known as the English Tower. The policy of this country is that everybody is welcome as long as they do not mess with argentinian affairs. It's not 1980-2007. It's 1832-2007.

I put it to you 'Las Malvinas' is a political tool used by politicans to distract people, before the Juntas was it so important? I don't think so. There is nothing like a war to make a people feel they are 'one'.
Will Chile/Peru give back Bolivia's coast? Will Argentina give back Mendoza to Chile? Salud.

Argentina claimed its right to sovereignty many many times. For instance right after the inception of the UN in 1945.

Yes Argentina's claim is an old one and has been repeated many times. However the 'popular' nature of the 'Nuestra Islas' subject is i think more recent. And the total defeat in 1982 only turns the idea into popular shared legend. For me the war was sad and pointless. The men of both nations armed services fought hard and with immense courage. But it only cost lives and change nothing. Salud.

I'm glad to read that you're not happy with casualties in wars. Chinese did rule once and now became silently stronger as they use to do in everything they do; perseverant and wise people. I don't think Indians would even try; they can't just be compared to Chinese culture as a whole. I'm not fluent in Chinese but would love to learnt it. One language is not enough :)

obviamente debias pertencer a cierta clase acomodada que te permite viajar a europa. porque te tienen que entrenar en alemania? donde esta tu patriotismo? no sabes que el año pasado alemania y toda la union europea dio su apoyo para que malvinas/falklnads pertenezcan a la comunidad europea y asi sellar el pacto entre UK y el resto de europa? que haces entonces en un pais "traidor"? igual seguro que si te ofrecen laburo alla NO VOLVES NUNCA MAS a tu querida argentinita.

Ahora que pasa me tenes envidia que por mis estudios me haya podido ir a hacer un curso al exterior? Jaja anda a estudiar che y dejame de romper las bolas! El patriotismo no solo es quedarse en el suelo y decir aca estoy sino buscar de ser mejor para brindarle a su pais lo mejor. El pacto nunca se llevo a cabo asi que no hables de fantasmas vieja.
