Ted, who managed Norski for the Association and for the Parks Dept., and I walked around the site of the Lodge not long ago. The building is gone, except for the ticket counter and a very large paper wasp nest on the counter. Sad...
With all the snow we've had this winter I was able to ski the expert hill even though it hasn't been mowed in 10 years. It is still the best place to ski in northeast Iowa!!
I learned to ski at Nor-Ski in the early 80's. We would usually ski Tues&Thurs nights and Sat. and Sun. For our family, the season tickets cost about $200/year. The city spends $1 million+ to build a pool for summer sports, but does not want to spend $250,000 to buy used snowmaking equipment. When there was consistent snow, Nor-Ski was packed with people.Without snowmaking equipment, with 2-3 years of low snow, you would lose a generation of new skiers. I hope that someday,Nor-ski can open again
I learned to ski at Nor-Ski in the early 90's. I've skied in dozens of resorts and in multiple countries since then, and even with all that time on other mountains it was still fun to have Nor-ski to come home to get in fresh tracks down Expert after a big snow storm, or a few quick runs in an evening after work. It's certainly a sad state of affairs that in a city that prides itself on parks there's no room for this rarity.

Wow my farm is in the background in the beginning of the video. But it's a very good video about Nor-ski.
