How horrendous! Yes, it sure is murder! Killing of animals in order to cut costs should never be for population control. The term euthanasia actually means "mercy killing" and it was intended as an absolute last resort. Many of these animals are not terminally ill, so the term used should not be euthanasia in these cases. It's genocide. I think the first poster was very astute and accurate in their assessment comparing it with the death camps. People wouldn't dare do this to orphaned children.
The solution to preventing the mass murder of animals id to make breeding illegal and shutting down all pet shops. But of cours that won't happen. Then there will be no shelters. For everyone....I JUST put my dog down, ive had her for 10 years. The past year i have watched her suffer from lymphoma that moved to her liver. Putting her down was the NICEST thing i could have done for her!!!! So shut your mouth until you have to personally watch your own family suffer....THEN you can decide what is right or wrong!!!!
I have held all my dogs in my arms when they had to be euthanized and never have I seen any sign of pain. Beuthanasia (marketed by Merck) is fast acting and the dogs have never shown pain. They look as if they are falling asleep and within a minute or two the animal is gone. No cries of pain, no thrashing about. Just a shot. And the fading beat of the heart.

I was with a dog when he was PTS. It was NOT immediate! He cried and struggled for about 5 minutes or more. And this is with a trained, experienced vet doing the euthanization, which is the only LEGAL way, as I understand it, so Idk how a vet tech is going to know anything about it? After what I personally witnessed and what I've seen in the years after, I'm convinced that there are no 'humane' ways to kill animals.
Shelter's HAVE to kill them, because HUMANS don't want them any more, HUMANS are not responsible enough to SPAY AND NEUTER their animals. HUMANS buy a puppy on impulse because they think that it's Sooo cute and then the puupy does normal puppy behaviour like jump on the kids (yes that's a real excuse) and then takes it to the pound. The only way that this can be reduced is by SPAYING AND NEUTERING your Animals, ADOPT/FOSTER animals from the pound. It's the OWNER"S FAULT not the Shelter's.

I am a vet technician, this video is overyly dramatic and nothing to do with putting down an animal, this is showing pics of sick dogs. Euthanizing is a SAFE and NON painful. It is equivalent to a shot. It is not slowly killing the animal. If the animal is very sick, very old/ very abused, we euthanize them. As soon as the needle is injected, the animal is dead immediately. i dont like doing it unless there suffering n i do it to out them out of misery.
My cat Angus was moved to a temporary home and the temporary owner was about 93 and she had a heart appointment . Her caregiver took my cat while she was gone and had him euthanized. Now my cat angus who was so pretty was euthanized because the shelter missed his microchip 4 times otherwise we would have been contacted . The last picture of my cat was absolutely horrible and he was scared of theshelter

here in the Uk we have patrol's capturing feral female/male cats and neutering them... why can't America do the same? Here in the Uk only unhealthy, dying or dangerous (those posing a threat to humans )dogs are put to sleep, so why not the same in US?

There is no such thing as a NO KILL animal shelter. I currently work at an animal shelter and I can tell you first hand that there is no such thing. Humane society euthanizes, PETA euthanizes, ASPCA does too. The diffrence between the ASPCA, PETA, and Humane Society is they take the cute and fluffy ones, leaving the older or "unwanted breeds" with us. The only way to deter this from happening is just to stop breeding. Spay and neuter your animals.
Great video presentation- however on one point I disagree- there IS something wrong at this point in time buying from a breeder. Breeding dogs with this many "surplus" /"disposable" pets out there wanting homes is to me simply unconscionable and breeders are tantamount to murderers. They are essentially forcing the kill-shelters to subsidize their industry. "Breeders" breed 3-5 Mil or more cats and dogs each year and shelters have to kill at least that many !!!! wake up !!!

My grandma runs a private one. But she keeps the dogs until they do find homes no matter how long that takes. She's had a dog there for 5 years now and she told me she wouldn't put it up for adoption anymore because she got attached to him. LOL

The only crisis is poor shelter management. The real sad truth is that shelters are still killing animals when there are other alternatives. Most of these numbers are outdated and incorrect. It take more than 1 person to euthanise a dog, as in the 2 dog owners, the careless owner and the one who dumped them on the sreet. It's not the dogs fault, nor is it the animal shelter's fault. Aww I have 1 dog that I when I was 10 ANSI got it from a breeder but she was practically like an animal shelter except didn't euthanise them and any dog that wasn't sold she kept and loved them(she only had around 20-30 dogs)@killtankbts what the hell gives you the right to judge what she wants to do?! nothing makes me more sad then putting an animal to sleep:( i had to do this to my cat a few weeks ago because he got very ill and meds dis not help him he was in the terminal phase of his illness..it was so hard to bring myself up to do that but in the end i know that it was the best thing to do....miss you Red

This is why I wish we had stricter laws on animals. I mean strict. I think there should be a limit when it comes to breeding. All animals much have some sort of social. People should not be able to breed their dogs more than once. All animals must be spayed and neutered. If you want one liter of dogs or whatever they have to sign papers and have records of who got what animal. Plus much much more.

A lot of private breeders are idiots and have no idea what they are doing. I have a neighbor who breeds their dogs and they have idea what they are doing, they simply get their dogs to mate every season and produce about 12-16 dogs a year! I adopted my cats out of a shelter and had them fixed (neither has ever been outside other than in a carrier). My G/F adopted her dog from a friend, but he isn't fixed, but isn't a father and is an indoor dog.
i knew the truth but this but its getting worse i have 20 animals from girbils to horses and im happy to say that 17 are all rescues from different rescue homes, e.g rspca, blue cross you get much more love from rescued dogs, they now and love you 100% because they know in a way that you saved there life, even my girbils which are from the RSPCA are so friendly unlike pet stoce ones, so please adopt a animal, and not just the young and pretty but the old ones too they have asmuch love to give :)

@Jeannenyc57 i get a new dog every two years. for instance i have had my dog todd for almost 2 years, but he just keeps getting older and less playful. so i get a new puppy. then i take the old dog. tie him to a tree, and shoot him with a twelve gauge. then that night me and my family sit down and have a big feast celebrating the new dogs arrival by eating my old dog and feeding some of it to the new dog. its a great way because you are giving the old dogs body a purpose not just throwing it out

I use to have 7 (lol) dogs, 3 of them died which was Rex about 14 years old, there was Chessy which was about 14 as well and there was Fluffy which was 6 year old Maltese. Rex and Chessy both died of cancer and I'm not quite sure what happened with Fluffy. ( btw they died before 2007 so i can't really remember) I was very very sad and heartbroken that they died but i still have my 4 other lovely dogs, Lucky 8 yr Shih Tzu, Cody 5 yr Maltese male, Bailey 2 yr Labrador Retriever male and sheila 14.

The cost is on another animals life who wasn't as lucky to find his/her way into you're home. You provide the want and they'll keep breeding and torturing these poor animals. However, animals don't have a consciouss, we do so we think we feel and we suffer. Animals are guided by their instincts, they do not suffer because they know nothing of it.
If you think about it, all you cat and dog owners are quite literally fueling Pet Euthanasia. You may think you are doing the right thing by giving ONE or TWO animals a safe and loving shelter but you as individuals are the sole reason for Pet Over Population because you Pet lovers provide the 'WANT' for the trade.. I have never personally adopted a dog or cat from a shelter, but every pet I've ever owned was on their way to a shelter (or worse) when they became a part of my family.
I am currently trying to tame a stray cat from my neighborhood and hope to have him trust me enough to take him in before winter comes. He's an escapee from a hoarding seizure made several months ago.The lady had issues and was allowing dead animals to rot away on the floor so I don't blame him for being scared of the indoors.

The pet shops should stop purchasing the pets in the first place, which would help lower the number of puppymills; the shops could also have an area to show adoptable pets and information about adopting them from the local shelter. If anyone knows of a puppy mill please report it, and maybe we can lower these heartbreaking numbers in time.

my family and i foster and adopt pets that shelters go to put down since they are 'un re homeable' we train the fster pets and they manage to be adopted out.
we hate seeing a dog put back un trained so they still see its only chance is death.

In Costa Rica, euthanasia as a population measure is not allowed ,instead there r constant spay campaigns all over the country, low budget vet clinics spays (by vet iniciative) n we have shelters, some focused for very ill or handicapped animals. There r animals on the streets of course, but with every year there r less thanxs to education n spay campaigns. Hope it gets banned in the US.

Always makes me mad when I go on places like answers yahoo or even up here and there's people who want to breed their dogs or have already bred their dogs and don't have an idea of what they're doing.
Even if you don't care about the animals, the U.S alone spends 2 billion in tax dollars just impounding, housing, euthanizing, and disposing of these pets. That's a lot of money for something so easily 'fixed.'

Why do we do this? As intelligent as humans are, we can be the least caring beings on this planet. We know the consequences but sometimes could care less. If you dont have money to spade/neuter your pet, do some research on free or affordable services. You're on the internet right now, might as well do it.
My heart beaks every time I look on petfinder and see how many animals out there are in animal control that have only a a few days to be adopted or die :( I don't understand why more is not done to enforce that people spay/ neuter their pets. Here in IL were I live there is a number set on how many pets you are allowed to have - some cities say you are only allowed to have 2 or 3 but nothing is set up saying that by law you have to alter them. This makes no sense to me.

How horrendous! Yes, it sure is murder! Killing of animals in order to cut costs should never be for population control. The term euthanasia actually means "mercy killing" and it was intended as an absolute last resort. Many of these animals are not terminally ill, so the term used should not be euthanasia in these cases. It's genocide. I think the first poster was very astute and accurate in their assessment comparing it with the death camps. People wouldn't dare do this to orphaned children.

I have held all my dogs in my arms when they had to be euthanized and never have I seen any sign of pain. Beuthanasia (marketed by Merck) is fast acting and the dogs have never shown pain. They look as if they are falling asleep and within a minute or two the animal is gone. No cries of pain, no thrashing about. Just a shot. And the fading beat of the heart.
My daughter is a vet tech and tells me the drug is pretty expensive. Possibly these horribly drawn out painful deaths are due to using ot

I was with a dog when he was PTS. It was NOT immediate! He cried and struggled for about 5 minutes or more. And this is with a trained, experienced vet doing the euthanization, which is the only LEGAL way, as I understand it, so Idk how a vet tech is going to know anything about it? After what I personally witnessed and what I've seen in the years after, I'm convinced that there are no 'humane' ways to kill animals.

I am a vet technician, this video is overyly dramatic and nothing to do with putting down an animal, this is showing pics of sick dogs. Euthanizing is a SAFE and NON painful. It is equivalent to a shot. It is not slowly killing the animal. If the animal is very sick, very old/ very abused, we euthanize them. As soon as the needle is injected, the animal is dead immediately. i dont like doing it unless there suffering n i do it to out them out of misery.

My cat Angus was moved to a temporary home and the temporary owner was about 93 and she had a heart appointment . Her caregiver took my cat while she was gone and had him euthanized. Now my cat angus who was so pretty was euthanized because the shelter missed his microchip 4 times otherwise we would have been contacted . The last picture of my cat was absolutely horrible and he was scared of theshelter

There is no such thing as a NO KILL animal shelter. I currently work at an animal shelter and I can tell you first hand that there is no such thing. Humane society euthanizes, PETA euthanizes, ASPCA does too. The diffrence between the ASPCA, PETA, and Humane Society is they take the cute and fluffy ones, leaving the older or "unwanted breeds" with us. The only way to deter this from happening is just to stop breeding. Spay and neuter your animals.

Great video presentation- however on one point I disagree- there IS something wrong at this point in time buying from a breeder. Breeding dogs with this many "surplus" /"disposable" pets out there wanting homes is to me simply unconscionable and breeders are tantamount to murderers. They are essentially forcing the kill-shelters to subsidize their industry. "Breeders" breed 3-5 Mil or more cats and dogs each year and shelters have to kill at least that many !!!! wake up !!!

The only crisis is poor shelter management. The real sad truth is that shelters are still killing animals when there are other alternatives. Most of these numbers are outdated and incorrect. It's 2010, and the numbers ARE dropping. Shelters are just failing at their goal to save lives, and are still stuck in the mindset that killing is the only way. It isn't even necessary. They choose to because it's "what works", when in reality, it isn't needed and isn't helping at all.

This is why I wish we had stricter laws on animals. I mean strict. I think there should be a limit when it comes to breeding. All animals much have some sort of social. People should not be able to breed their dogs more than once. All animals must be spayed and neutered. If you want one liter of dogs or whatever they have to sign papers and have records of who got what animal. Plus much much more.

2.The cages are not that cramped compared to the dogs size and most places have a big back area of the store for the animals to roam freely

A lot of private breeders are idiots and have no idea what they are doing. I have a neighbor who breeds their dogs and they have idea what they are doing, they simply get their dogs to mate every season and produce about 12-16 dogs a year! I adopted my cats out of a shelter and had them fixed (neither has ever been outside other than in a carrier). My G/F adopted her dog from a friend, but he isn't fixed, but isn't a father and is an indoor dog.

i knew the truth but this but its getting worse i have 20 animals from girbils to horses and im happy to say that 17 are all rescues from different rescue homes, e.g rspca, blue cross you get much more love from rescued dogs, they now and love you 100% because they know in a way that you saved there life, even my girbils which are from the RSPCA are so friendly unlike pet stoce ones, so please adopt a animal, and not just the young and pretty but the old ones too they have asmuch love to give :)

this is why ive planned to become a veterinarian or a vet technician to work at a shelter and treat all of the animals that i can. I plan on also donating a portion of my salary too. Im only 15 and i understand all of this stuff and i want to help.

So many people are irresponsible...Perhaps the US Gov should get involved regarding who should or should not be allowed/permitted to own an animal/have a pet. Also, there is such a thing as humane euthanasia...I wouldn't want to suffer & find it terribly cruel when "owners" prolong their pets suffering b/c of their own selfish needs. Regardless, GL - & in the future when making a video with lyrics/text use SPELL CHECK (there's quite an important typo mid-way through your work). :-(

you guys dont understand. if an animal is sick and in pain then it should be euthanized. why make it suffer? you guys say its wrong to kill animals but ever think about if its wrong to keep an animal alive so it can sit there and die slowly? same thing with abortion. if a baby is unwanted then you should abort it during early pregnancy so its not born into a world where nobody will want it and its just going to be put up for adoption along with millions of other babies.

@Jeannenyc57 i get a new dog every two years. for instance i have had my dog todd for almost 2 years, but he just keeps getting older and less playful. so i get a new puppy. then i take the old dog. tie him to a tree, and shoot him with a twelve gauge. then that night me and my family sit down and have a big feast celebrating the new dogs arrival by eating my old dog and feeding some of it to the new dog. its a great way because you are giving the old dogs body a purpose not just throwing it out

I use to have 7 (lol) dogs, 3 of them died which was Rex about 14 years old, there was Chessy which was about 14 as well and there was Fluffy which was 6 year old Maltese. Rex and Chessy both died of cancer and I'm not quite sure what happened with Fluffy. ( btw they died before 2007 so i can't really remember) I was very very sad and heartbroken that they died but i still have my 4 other lovely dogs, Lucky 8 yr Shih Tzu, Cody 5 yr Maltese male, Bailey 2 yr Labrador Retriever male and sheila 14.

Can you imagine someone saying we had to kill a bunch of animals? No they're ganna say something more clever and formal like "we had to Euthanize a bunch of animals." That words softens the awfulness.

By letting emotion cloud you're judgement, you're giving in and telling you're self to shelter any animal at any cost.. The cost is on another animals life who wasn't as lucky to find his/her way into you're home. You provide the want and they'll keep breeding and torturing these poor animals. However, animals don't have a consciouss, we do so we think we feel and we suffer. Animals are guided by their instincts, they do not suffer because they know nothing of it.

If you think about it, all you cat and dog owners are quite literally fueling Pet Euthanasia. You may think you are doing the right thing by giving ONE or TWO animals a safe and loving shelter but you as individuals are the sole reason for Pet Over Population because you Pet lovers provide the 'WANT' for the trade.. If no one wanted Pets becuase of the conditions in which they go through, the trade completely crumbles.. The root cause are people like you, think about it..

I have never personally adopted a dog or cat from a shelter, but every pet I've ever owned was on their way to a shelter (or worse) when they became a part of my family.
I am currently trying to tame a stray cat from my neighborhood and hope to have him trust me enough to take him in before winter comes. He's an escapee from a hoarding seizure made several months ago.The lady had issues and was allowing dead animals to rot away on the floor so I don't blame him for being scared of the indoors.

The pet shops should stop purchasing the pets in the first place, which would help lower the number of puppymills; the shops could also have an area to show adoptable pets and information about adopting them from the local shelter. If anyone knows of a puppy mill please report it, and maybe we can lower these heartbreaking numbers in time.

So much abandonment, suffering and death. People always turn a blind eye when it comes to the suffering of animals. People tell me just to shut up and stop going on about it. But it really gets me down to know all the suffering all these defenceless creatures go through in the world. I am a veggie and gave started to buy food for vegans. It is made so hard to be a vegan but I am not giving up.

Apparently, in many legal systems like the European ones, you cannot "kill" an animal, you can only "destroy" it. Only humans can be killed. Animals are things. Or have you ever heard anybody sentenced for murder on a pet?

my family and i foster and adopt pets that shelters go to put down since they are 'un re homeable' we train the fster pets and they manage to be adopted out.
we hate seeing a dog put back un trained so they still see its only chance is death.
we have worked with abused dogs terrorised horses and even abused rabbits.
i hate the unneeded deaths they have.

This is terrible, so many dogs :( My dog n my 2 cats r adopted, no breed, and an Himalayan (he was a gift). In Costa Rica, euthanasia as a population measure is not allowed ,instead there r constant spay campaigns all over the country, low budget vet clinics spays (by vet iniciative) n we have shelters, some focused for very ill or handicapped animals. There r animals on the streets of course, but with every year there r less thanxs to education n spay campaigns. Hope it gets banned in the US.

Always makes me mad when I go on places like answers yahoo or even up here and there's people who want to breed their dogs or have already bred their dogs and don't have an idea of what they're doing.
Even if you don't care about the animals, the U.S alone spends 2 billion in tax dollars just impounding, housing, euthanizing, and disposing of these pets. That's a lot of money for something so easily 'fixed.'

Why do we do this? As intelligent as humans are, we can be the least caring beings on this planet. We know the consequences but sometimes could care less. If you dont have money to spade/neuter your pet, do some research on free or affordable services. You're on the internet right now, might as well do it.

My heart beaks every time I look on petfinder and see how many animals out there are in animal control that have only a a few days to be adopted or die :( I don't understand why more is not done to enforce that people spay/ neuter their pets. Here in IL were I live there is a number set on how many pets you are allowed to have - some cities say you are only allowed to have 2 or 3 but nothing is set up saying that by law you have to alter them. This makes no sense to me.

the saddest truth of all, is this is our doing, people have this love of a thoroughbred dog, it has to be a boxer, a choc lab, the little mongrels at the pound give as much love and affection! People need to stop paying hundreds for puppies, when a small donation to the SPCA and they will gain a loving dog with unconditional love!
