@3MostHolyTrinity3 Yep, I live here. I don't know about out-state, but the Twin Cities has the lowest unemployment than any other metro in the country. It also has the largest economy in the Midwest outside of Chicago. Historically, lumber and flour built the city but it's too diverse to have a speciality these days.
Just an FYI, the 694 expansion project between 35W and 35E has been shelved indefinitely due to a lack of funds (just like the majority of other metro area projects). The interchange at 694/51/10 is set to be reconstructed starting spring 2011. The plan is on the city of Arden Hills website. The plans currently eliminate the weave allowing for 2 through lanes on 694 with bridges that could accommodate a future 3rd lane in each direction.
@eluko79 You might know that I have some videos up on my channel that cover about this same amount of territory. My question is this: do you think it's better to do timelapse videos like this or would it be good to do realtime videos so you can actually see the signs on the freeways and things?
I guess it depends on the amount of territory I'm trying to cover. I'll slow down the speed if its a short route or if there's a lot of stuff to see. On a route like this I'll speed it up so folks wont get bored halfway through. I try to make my videos around 5 minutes, which is about how long my internet attention span is.
@eluko79 My dad works for Cretex off Bass Lake Rd. in Maple Grove, and he designed the bridges for the US-62 and 35-W flyovers. It's gonna be much better when it's all done! His company is also helping with the Hwy 169 overpass over Hwy 81 in Osseo.
Its not as bad as it was a few years ago, and now that the 35E weave is complete it runs pretty smooth for the most part. From 2:10 to 3:15 some major changes are scheduled including extra lanes and flyovers.
I use a "flip mino hd", then edit it in the vista version of movie maker. You also need the k-lite codec download to edit the mp4 files in movie maker.
@aswchris I think you see towns with much larger populations in the Chicago or LA area than in Texas (except for the DFW Metroplex). Almost half of the population in the Houston area is within the city limits (which itself is suburban for the most part, granted), and I think the San Antonio and Austin cases are similar.
Another awesome video! I really liked how you inserted the US Highway Gothic font into your video.
One very slight recommendation. For the title, add in (MN) in front of I-694, and mention the Twin Cities or Minneapolis/St. Paul...since some of your international viewers will still have no idea what area they're looking at on the map. Just something that I thought about, but very very minor.
Nice Vid. I know that road like the back of my hand. And for some reason it seems like every time I pass under that BNSF bridge, a locomotive is passing over it....Just like 4:10.
I don't comment much, but I enjoy all your videos. Keep up the good work!
Do you live in Minnesota State ? Is there some work in your state ? And what kind of work is the speciality of this city ?

Great vid!!.Seems to be very common (acoustic barriers) to control the noise in the urbanizations near the roads.
CAMINOANDALUZ 2 years ago
Nice video. The suburbs are rather small compared to what you see in Texas, Arizona or California.
I noticed a lot of cable barriers, are they common in the Twin Cities?
aswchris 2 years ago
@aswchris
Actually they just started putting them up about a year ago. They're on almost all the highways now.
As for the suburbs they average about 60,000 people for every 25 square miles. The small city boundaries around here can be a little misleading.

Nice video as always, eluko!
Yea, the construction going on at I-694 is at MN 51 and US 10. That area is a huge mess.

@WarOfTheKnights
I'm definitely looking forward to that. I noticed on the plans that there are going to be some flyovers on 35W as well. It's going to be sweet.

Thanks for the pointers Brent! I'll enable the place names on G.E. for now on. I'll change the title around too.

Them slowing me down gave me a chance to see the BNSF locomotive passing by up ahead so it worked out for the best I think.
