  • This dvd proves that cornette is overrated as a booker.

  • What are the Guest Booker's that you have seen that did not work? Also which one was the absolute worst in your opinion?

  • The worked shoot would get the same reaction, 'oh, that's different,' and create controversy. It's not like what Russo did, at all. When Russo did worked shoots they were confusing messes that weren't believable, thus making people care even less.

He's not suggesting a revival of kayfabe, he's suggesting creating realistic TV that people can actually get into. A lot of people don't like Cena's work because his punching is 'clunky' and sloppy. Suspension of belief is crucial.

  • Sorry, disagree with ya. The invasions biggest failure was making WWF face because Vince as a face just doesn't work. Until Farooq bitched about WCW being the losers, WCW was already over as face. A face is often defined by a heel, and Vince is a pretty damn good heel.

I would have changed things a little bit, made Rock vs. Page at some point for the right to the title of People's Champion, featured Kronik more prominently,

  • jim cornet is a asshole Paul E IS a true wrestling Genius booker/promoter

  • You need a new intro music as this one is getting old

  • Its funny what he said about Muh Muh Muh Matt Mor Mor Mor Morgan. haha

  • I think cornette did a great job on his fantasy booking, I'd have to agree that about 75-80% of what he chose was perfect

  • Everything on TV is fake, with the exception of sports.

So... your logic has failed, stfu.

  • are you married?

    have u got a gf?

    do u have kids?

  • WCW was the shit..THE FINGER POKE OF DOOM WAS FUNNY AS FUCK, YOULL NEVER BOOK! RUSSO SUX! YOU DONT KNOW WRESTLING YOU ARE NO WRESTLER YOU ARE A MARK! UNDERTAKER IS QUEER!

  • what are you sayng tslay?wcw drew a 3.0 rating on the last nitro, raw did 3.5 or something, the next week raw didnt have a 6.0 rating or a 5,they had a 3 or 4 so there were a couple of million fans who did not want wwf so fuck your virgin self saying wcw had no diehard fans like ecw which was what 12 people squashed in a bingo hall, was successful but only because they cross promoted with wwf, statistics dont lie

  • Overrated virgin

  • Dude, I'd rather die a virgin and have my name on the lips of endless generations for breaking my knees in a scaffold match, than get laid at age 13 and work an assembly line for the rest of my life.

  • whats my comment got to do with my job?im a qualified gym instructer and personal trainer, wtf?

  • No no no, you're misunderstanding me. If you have a kid, then you have to put your dreams aside to pay child support, so you have to work an assembly line the rest of your life.

If you stay abstinent, though, you can pursue your dreams with your soulmate's encouragement, so in the long run, being a virgin isn't all that bad.

  • his wm card wasnt that good i agree

  • IF wwe really gave a shit about the invasion storyline wich obviously they didnt considering the talent acquisition was so bad they had to throw in ecw to maek it look strong they shouldve signed sting wich shouldve been an absolute MUST they shouldve brought in flair during the storyline not after it those 2 guys sting and flair made that god forsaken company at bash at the beach in the late 80s i think it was anyways they shouldve had them leading the alliance that alone couldve made it work

  • The problem was that Sting had a Turner Deal not a WCW deal so he could set at home and not have to work

  • yeah but sting has said in a interview that he was in talks with vince and he was going to take him up on the deal but he just wasnt entirely shure how he would be used and he was watching the invasion angle and one night he was watching booker t and the rock were kiking ass and then they come back to back and the rock says "who are you?" then sting said that 1 little comment is all it took for him to not sign he said wwfs concept was "let it be known your a wcw guy and your a peon here" so ya

  • I can't lie on disk 1 of this dvd was the funniest thing ever. Jim cornette doing a shoot on the companies and the wrestlers was hilarious.

  • wcw sucks,tna is a wcw what a be

  • You mean "want a be or wanna be" but yeah that's true.

  • Want to know how tna can get bigger rateings bring in roh as a invasion

  • Ask tna fans they want the dream match rvd vs aj styles.

  • aj styles vs shawn michaels

    soma joe vs chris jericho

    dream matchs

  • This is really a great review, this convinced me to buy it.

  • I just find Cornette really interesting. Its 3am so Ill finish it tomorrow

  • Im about half way through it and Im currently enjoying it

  • the only good thing about that entire angle was Kurt and the Milk truck.

  • hehehe you motherfuckers are really funny can we just squash this or do i have to snap some cracker necks around here

  • Any time a human being such as Jim Cornette comes up with a year long story line with in 4 hrs..is pure genius if you ask me,no if's and's or but's about it.

  • Dont forget there was ECW in the invasion storyline also.

  • What was Cornette's Wrestlemania card?

  • it would have been a better dvd if cornette had used the talent that wwe had at the time instead of bringing in the guys that were not there until 2002.

that would have showed if he could have booked it better with the talent that wwe had at the time.

  • Imagine if the invasion angle continued to Wrestlemania and they had a WCW/ECW vs WWF WARGAMES.

  • That could've actually been possible at Survivor Series too since the War Games match has the element of survival just like the 5 on 5 elimination match. Too bad a War Games match in WWE will most likely never happen :(

  • The thing is that I doubt that vince really wanted to make WCW and ECW look strong.

  • I agree we should have been happy when it went out of business, I adore WCW but I blame Russo for the death, so they indeed deserved to die, although I loved them.

  • i was happy on the one hand it went out of business but it made me concerned for the future of wrestling as a whole. as for russo he was one of the reasons why wcw failed but not the only one

  • I fantasy booked with a guy on a forum (Wrestlefuse) and we ended up making the three sides (WWF, WCW, ECW) a mixture of face and heels. They weren't necessarily defined, but more of a team effort.

  • I had fun watching Cornette rant but his booking wasn't that awesome. He's such a mark for the old guys like Terry Funk who maybe could have been used but not in such a big way. Also, I thought he was supposed to keep it realistic, which means he wasn't able to Sting, but he did. Also, his WM card was huuuuge.

  • I watched it too and I think it was pretty good, especially when he shooted on the WWE management.

I agree with the fact that WWF didn't bring WCW top stars, obviously, but in my opionion it would have been fucking hard to held them apart for almost a year until Wrestlemania X-8!

And by the way... Cornette's Wrestlemania fantasy card had 17 matches? Oh my god...

  • The bullet points should be on the >

  • Someone had the entire WWF 2001 year on Justin TV, so I got to rewatch the Invasion. It wasn't as bad as I remembered. Actually, it wasn't bad at all when I compare it to WWE today, in that case it was great.

I feel the only thing bad about the whole angle was ECW/wCw being the bad guys when they had plenty of people fans could get behind. I know you say they lacked the big name talent, but a guy like DDP could have been put over as a much bigger talent than some goofy-smiling stalker.

  • RVD was also over from day-one, but it was ignored for a bit until the RVD chants got too loud to pretend he wasn't over.

When I look at who was under-used, and how the Alliance was made to be the "evil invaders", it seems like it was all just a way to make WWF look far superior to anything ECW/wCw had to offer. When in reality, DDP should have been a threat, Booker T should have been a threat, as well as RVD and Rhyno.

  • this could've been a great story line. WWE didn't want to do. Plus you had your top guys under million dollar contracts.

  • as long as vince was running things he was never gonna put wcw guys over. He has always crushed anyones career that made from wwf/wwe

  • invasion angle in 2001 was never gonna work Vince was never gonna let wcw guys get over his wwf guys. Check out Jim cornettes dairy queen video on youtube its funny he calls the girl at the drive through a c*nt its crazy

  • Please do a review on the Jerry Jarrett guest booker, I'd really enjoy it.

  • Yeah Undertaker vs Sting would be great but what about Hogan vs Austin. I would love to see this match and it looks like NEVER gonna happen.

  • Thank for the review I may pick this up when I heard about the DVD I couldn't wait to get my hands on it but now I may wait to get it.

  • I agree that RVD vs HHH would have been more of a good vs evil type of match for ONS 2 but CENA was just so hated at the time and Triple H was on the verge of turning face. Summer of 2003 with RVD and Trips at the Hammerstein would have been insane.

  • yeah well that was the match which really showed me that CENA knew what he was doing as he just went along with it and had fun.

  • does anybody around here not get the feeling that trueslayer is sometimes in a bad mood?

  • I think booking wrestling has jus gotten overly complicated for no reason. For example the WWE is bringing in Nigel. I would book it (assuming he goes straight to ECW which he should) Reagal brings him as a hired gun to help with His feud with Christian. Have Reagal go over and win the title and Have Nigel turn on him. Then Nigel and Christian can have some matches to see who the Number 1 contender is and have those end with some no finishes boom Triple threat Nigel gos over as tweener champ

  • I havnt seen this dvd yet but i will. But I agree, never break keyfabe and say matches are not real or why should I pay to see any, also it appears that cornette in the trailers says the matches are real but outcomes decided, that is mind boggling to me. I mean not only is he saying dont watch the show especialy post invasion angle but how will he explain how the matches are still the same as before.

  • I think the only way a Sting vs Taker match could happen is after sting "retires" at BFG then he signs with WWE and then shows up at Royal Rumble, stops taker from winning the match. Then you build the match between him and taker all the way till wrestlemania

  • I thought the Invasion was arguably the most memorable period in WWE history. A lot of credit goes to Austin and RVD.

  • I like listening to James E talk about wrestling. Very nice review.

  • As far as dream matches go I wanna see Beth Phoenix vs Awesome Kong.

  • Jerry Jarretts is a fucking joke, everything he did was fucking awful; are you kidding tslay. He books exactly what sullivan booked but worse. His plan to save wcw in 2000 is to book hulk hogan as the top babyface and feed him heels all year long. It is the worst booking I have seen and baffles me.

  • I might do a booking series of the invasion because everyone has got it dead wrong. And its so fuckign easy.

  • But it isn't exactly as easy as you're claiming, because some people have the idea that you could book WCW as the face, or either ignoring or forgetting what big talents had guaranteed contracts with Time Warner paying them should they not be actively working, or how to interject ECW into the invasion, and so on and so forth.

I'm sure you have your ideas, and some might see your idea as having its own flaws. It's one of those type of debates - neither side is going to give in to the other.

  • Just to do it and see what happens, I might if i can be bothered becuase it takes so much effort and time book the invasion and I'll tell you what I'll use the same roster as they used and off the bat I wouldn't include ECW into the invasion as an entity, s the money is with wcw vs wwf, if i did include ecw, it would be a small renegade group used as outsiders as tweeners and you dont know the side they will choose, however i likely would not include them as takes focus away from the real fued

  • How they used ecw was insane, with wcw? blimey. Also having shane and steph own wcw and ecw was ridiculous and again took the focus away fromt he real issue which is a storyline in itself, and also apparently according to wwe, steph and shane purchsed wcw and ecw with money they got from selling 50 percent of wwe to ric flair. Wait a minute you owned half a company but sold it so you could take it over? chrikey

  • i agree how they used ecw in the invasion recockuleas

  • The Idea behind using ECW was that the angle wasn't getting over and they knew that ECW would be over so they brought them in hoping it would make the angle better..but again other than the first night it never worked.

  • Really keep in mind most of the TOP talent you will not have accsess to that was the problem with the whole thing.

  • I dont agree it was teh problem with the whole thing, but literally ihave spent 2 hours writing the angle off the top of my head into notepad and had booked rougly 7 months, i am gonna do video/s on it saying my pans and lets see what you think, and yes i keep the roster.

  • But don't forget the main reason people weren't that into the WCW invasion was because you were lacking the bigger stars that people associated with WCW, thus ECW had to play an integral role in that invasion as you had their big players and people knew they could get some of their preferred dream matches out of them. So really, the story was more of an ECW invasion than anything else.

  • I understand your opinion but I don't agree. I think it was WWF's inability to promote what they had which lacked interest in the angle. I have just finished putting the touches to my booking of it, and the programme runs a year and a half, and i will make a video series about it, watch if it interests you.

  • But they did try to promote what they had, they tried to make Booker T seem like a bigger deal than what the fans thought of him. The real money was in the guys that Time Warner had locked up and paid for sitting at home. Yes, the WWE didn't push every guy right, or promote them properly, but the fans really wanted to see their Sting/Taker dream matches, and their Goldberg/Austin encounters.

  • I agree that is what they really wanted, but they did have, Dallas, Booker, Awesome, they can be used as main event level in ddp case and just under main for awesome when pushed and prooted correctly. Then you have to think about what you can do with what they had till they had access to bigger names, like flair, hulk, nash, hall etc. I think they had plenty to work with even if it was limited.

  • Has Cornette ever done a bad "shoot". Everything I've seen has been friggin awesome!

  • Gosh I haven't seen a good guest booker, both Jim and Raven booking was not very good. It is fun listening to them think, including Raven requesting for food. Good dvd and fun to watch tho, so I recommend to those that haven't seen Cornette. After all he was the creator of the Thillseekers XD.

  • People wanted to see Undertaker vs. Sting? They aren't even the same class of wrestler.

  • What do you mean? Both are pretty good in the ring.

  • I disagree with that even though sting is six years older they both can make good enough chmeistry for a great match.

  • This could be great right here:

    Monday Night RAW

    ECW

    Friday Night Nitro

  • I love to hear Cornette talk about wrestling but if his booking sucks I will not buy it.
