The Barbary lion also hunted alone and it was very big and had a mane that protected its head as well as stomach and underside and back, the mane was like a sheep wool, it lived in the mountains of Morocco Tunisia. This lion is extinct in the wild because of hunters, its in zoos now.
@herediacle also the story of people cutting off the mane of the lion and the tiger winning, I read about this, this is psychological, it is reported that a lion in the wild without the mane is biologically by natures designed not to fight because it has not advantage over the lion with the mane, it doesn't mean that the tiger is tougher, the lion is programed to not fight, it is intelligent enough to understand its mane is gone. Actually sub-Saharan male lions will occasionally venture from the pride and hunt and they will help the lionesses occasionally with hunting animals such as African buffalo. Jaguars will fight for territory like every feline. And the reason I said sub-Saharan lions is because that is the only lion sub-species you hear about today.

The Barbary lion also hunted alone and it was very big and had a mane that protected its head as well as stomach and underside and back, the mane was like a sheep wool, it lived in the mountains of Morocco Tunisia. This lion is extinct in the wild because of hunters, its in zoos now.

@Dalen77 My point about Leopards regarding my earlier comment is that the Leopard despite being smaller is a stronger creature than the Jaguar, so if they're of the same weight and size, the Leopard will certainly dominate the jaguar.
The Leopard is:
1) More aggresive than the Jaguar

@Emil9914 Wait a second I just gave you some factual advantages for the tiger i think there true, yes the lion does sit around Ok, but countless experts have said the lion is a bold violent creature, it will walk right into a fight, Ive seen lions stupidly walk into a tigers quick paw swipes, and just keep going, they fight other huge African animals as well and protect the pride, I have seen lots of clips of violent show downs with male lions as well as with many other African beast.

I think Americans(north american and south american) are desperate to make Jaguar some kind of "the king of animal".
But we all know that Jaguar can't even stand a chance infront of Tiger or Lion.
Africa continent have Lions and Asia continent have Tigers and America continent have Jaguar which not even that popular as Lion or Tiger...
Although Jaguar's face is really more handsome and their coat is just unbeliveablly fantastic but African lion or Asian tiger is more stronger..

You can tell the jaguar has ridiculously developed jaw muscles - look at 1:21 where the entire top of the head along the sagittal crest is flexing from the simple act of licking its foreleg! Jaguars are the most beautiful big cat.

Understand that a jaguar is not like a cheater it doesn't run and its not week. Secondly, the leopard is the most fecious big cat or even animal on earth, it can never be tamed and a male leopard knows no fear, not the same case for the jaguar.
Jaguars are not known for such attributes.

But I will say this, there lower limbs are thinner, over all they have dog like attributes where as the tiger is all cat. This could help or hurt the tiger, many times the lion shows no fear and is tougher by nature.

@Emil9914 I know leapards are designed to have this strength so they can be protected and eat there kill up in the tree away from Lions and hyenas. It doesn't mean the leopard can beat up lion or jaguar most certainly not. Tigers have extra muscles to over the lion so they too can drag prey threw rivers and up hills, again it doesn't mean the tiger can beat up a lion.

i agree,i'm brazilian,and i've heard a lot about jaguars,they are not that big,jaguar teeth can break a turtle shell,it's the only feline able to do it,the jaws are very strong,jaguars can swim better then most people,capture and eat fish,can climb up trees,they are quiet but attack suddenly,i think that's why jaguar is known as one of the most dangerous animals,they hide when they feel that are in danger,but they keep watching everything around,and attack suddenly , beautiful and dangerous cat!

Pound for pound, a jaguar is by far the strongest cat. And when you don't take size into consideration, it would be the tiger... Don't talk about insects because they have a huge advantage over animals and it has nothing to do with what you're trying to argue. You overrate the lion by a lot.

@hoyfanofboulder Not sure where your info came from but recent studies show the clouded leopard to be, now listen (LB for LB) the strongest cat with the Jaguar being a close 2nd. Followed by the Leopard and Cougar. THEN you get into the Tigers and Lions. This is lb for lb, not if a giant Siberian Tiger or African Lion were to fight a clouded leopard. It is fact and not arguable because you like lions better.

550 lb tigers from Nagarhole in India have been documented to drag 1 ton gaur carcasses up to 20 meters , something that 13 strong men couldn't even budge . I too agree that a jaguar , in terms of PROPORTIONAL STRENGTH , is stronger than a tiger but that difference is VERY MARGINAL .
Rather , a jaguar's main advantage would be its insanely powerful bite force , which the 2nd strongest among land based carnivores.

Live to hunt another day free of injury. Lions hunt in numbers, and have the confidence to go after large prey. Plus since they are in numbers, they need larger prey to feed them all. Jags don't.

Every cat i the feline family has a certain amount of intelligence..e.g. leopards are the smartest cats..What i meant was jaguars are not smarter than leopards..not all cats have a low stamina e.g. leopard can run for 10s or more and they have to kill thier prey which takes high amout of energy and they stash their prey which could be 2x heavier than the leopard that takes a lot of Stamina.. and yes i agree P4P jaguars have the strongest bite force..

When i said fighting gene i didn't have words to explain ....Take a lion .. lion usualy doesn't hunt but its main duty is taking care and protecting its pride from other lions...A tiger is a solitary cat just like its cousin the jaguar...tigers doesn't need to take care of anyone ( execpt for a tigeress ) tigers usualy protect thier territory from other tigers and are good hunters...jaguars territory doesn't over lap even if it does they don't fight for territory

Jaguars are HUNTERS... before getting into a fight with another jaguar for territory they have to think a 1000 times...because they are not like their larger cousins ... even a single bite to its leg from those massive jaws could end its life right there... injured leg = can't hunt = no food = starvation = death ....get what i'm saying ... they maybe be ferocious but in my opinion they are hunters to the core

LOL, on the contrary, they are like their larger cousins. If a tiger gets into a fight, injuries impedes its abilities to hunt as well. Lions live in prides so they can afford to fight like hell.

Actually sub-Saharan male lions will occasionally venture from the pride and hunt and they will help the lionesses occasionally with hunting animals such as African buffalo. Jaguars will fight for territory like every feline. And the reason I said sub-Saharan lions is because that is the only lion sub-species you hear about today.
