stifling is extremely common in young horses, this is an instance where the patella gets locked in an upward position, my horse has the same problem only his is chronic. when this happens the best way to unlock it is to back them up this is the easiest way for the patella to slide back into place, i see that it hasnt happened in a long time which is good but i just wanted to point out some common things for future reference =]
we did clean her hoof out and the BO, who has been working/living w/ horses her whole life didn't see anything wrong w/ her hoof. (it was a locked stifle, so it didn't really have anything to do w/ her hoof)
if its leg was just swore for a wee while .. like a day then it was prob just a wee kik
it happned to my pony i was soo worried but the next day he was completely better he jst needed stable rest and wee rubbed some aloe vera n it too the sweeling is prob from the kik too
I think thats all that happned dont worry about it but try to keep an eye on her in the field and the other horses just incase
thanx, yeah, we're actually moving her to a place closer to me(so I can see/ride her more). The place we're moving her to has like 3 horses in the pasture compared to this pasture which has a LOT of horses in the pasture. Hopefully she won't get picked on anymore! :]
so wat did the vet wind up saying ... it looked like she hurt her hip or something...it really looks like she hurt somethinh though :-(...i hope she didnt hurt anythng too bad but ya do u think she wouldve like broken anythng
btw hey it looks like ponylicous is a really cute pony.. when did the stopeks get her?
the vet never came(we didn't need her to). Her leg is all better now! We're not sure what was really wrong, but we think her stifle must have just been locked up from not enough exercise.
Ponylicious(Panda) is SO cute!!! I don't really remember when they got her... they got her the same time they got Tink, It wasn't too long ago. She's only 13hh, but she's an AMAZING jumper!! Hopefully Annie will be jumping that high soon! :D
I'm SO sorry I didn't get back to you earlier--based on what you're describing, and her quick recovery, I suspect it was a pinched nerve. Does she have pasture mates? She might have been kicked in such a way as to temporarily paralyze the nerve. That's what had happened to Clue--if she'd just had stall rest, she'd of been fine, but we know how that story went. Clue had apparently been dragging her front leg as well, which was a result of the temporary nerve paralysis.
yeah, it's uploading--and taking 4EVER!!! It's not very exciting tho... I'm not riding her in it(she's being lunged) and the video quality SUCKS!! She still did a good job! :) I love the enthusiasm tho! :D
I know you're trying not to be rude, but I didn't get a chance to groom her, we were too busy trying to figure out what was wrong-- the mud has nothing to do with it. If I can walk her out of the pasture when she's caked with mud after it rains, I don't think that little bit of mud would effect trying to walk in a circle.
that's what I thought it was at first when we were in the pasture, but if she was tired/lazy, she wouldn't be trying so hard to avoid walking on one specific leg.
This somewhat sounds like my horse riding instrustors horse. I don't want to make u scared but her horses pelvis was chipped. He is better now and doing everything he was doing before. i hope ur horse is alright and i hope its not to serious and that u can get back to ride her! ~morgan
well, we never had the vet come out, cause the next day it was a LOT better. But yeah, we think her stifle was locked up from either getting kicked or not getting enough exercise. I have been working on at least lunging her and getting her moving more since she's only five and she doesn't act like it. :)
Never walk a horse in a circle with a locked stifle. It can cause injury. I just found this out. Wanted to share it with yall :)

we're PRETTY sure it was a locked stifle(that occasionally came unlocked), but now she's fine- we haven't seen any signs of it coming back.
I've had her since May of 2008, and she's green under saddle(she's 5)

that video is classic for a stifle being "locked".
