Mp3 is a compressed format. Lot of important data thrown away as it is meant for distribution. Not editing. Aif or wav is uncompressed full quality audio best for your editing master. So mp3 conversion should be your last step in audio production.

Thank you so much for this. Quick question on the format: AIFF - is this the best format? Seems that takes up a large amount of space versus recording it as an mp3. Just wondering the downfall of recording as mp3?
